That's my question as well. I also hope the aircon works. It's either full blast or off in these antiquated rides. I'm still a big fan though. :ROFLOL:
Teal was made from Cars 1-5 of Pink and Car 6 of Purple. Not half and half as your diagram indicates.

Purple CAB 1 and Pink CAB 6 (notice I didn't say CAR) were destroyed. Cars 2-5 of Purple have been sitting in Monorail Shop since July 5, 2009 awaiting those two cabs to be rebuilt. Ex-Pink Car 6 and ex-Purple Car 1 have had new cabs built onto them are are back in Shop and the train is now put together awaiting some parts and testing.

Teal is 5/6th ex-Pink
"Train 12" will be 5/6th ex-Purple, with two brand new cabs on each end.

So net net, nothing at all has changed? That begs the question, Did they include seating in the cabs for passengers? I ask this only assuming that there will never be guest up front again.

They do have seats. It wouldn't make sense to not add them. Even if guests do not ride they are still used to transport CM's or if they have managers or trainers with the pilot CM. But that doesn't mean guest will be able to ride anytime soon. Before that happens I think they would need to add software upgrades to the MAPO systems that somehow include spur lines without having to override or that regardless if the train is in MAPO override or not two monorail can't come within 1000 feet of each other.

Why doesn't MAPO cover the spurs?

If I am correct, MAPO uses the electric strips on either side of the beams... Spurs are not only not concrete, but do not have the electric strips on them either... There is no way to connect the signal from the end of the beam to the beginning of the spur, the parts that pass each other, if that makes sense...

Someone do please correct me if I am wrong...

 Thanks! Didn't feel like retyping that.

In a nutshell, the only thing "new" on Peach is the cabs at each end.

Regarding what someone mentioned earlier about the color being different from the bottom "skirts," that is pretty normal. You will see on the other 11 trains they are a little different shade from the top body portion, and some darker than the others. They look even more different on Peach because the top is a brand new coat of white, and the skirts have been left untouched from July 09 (and whenever it was they were repainted before that.)

So, is car 1 and car 6 entirely new? Did they use the chassis, electric engines, tires, etc from the original cars and just fabricate new fiberglass shells, windows, carpet, etc? Or, is the WHOLE thing new.

Aside from that, what a pretty sight it is to see #12. They are beautiful machines, and are one of my favorite parts about visiting WDW. I still get that excited feeling in my stomach when I take the exit toward the EPCOT main parking lot and see the beam for the first time.

Both cabs on Monorail Peach are completely new inside and out. No cars were damaged in the accident only the cabs.

Okay, looking online, I do not know what I am talking about, hahahaha...

I believe if I remember right it the for the MAPO system to work it has to be a closed circuit but when your on the spur track it's an open circuit. It's mentioned in the NTSB report interviews how it works. The technology is really dated. The issue I think with replacing the monorails (which is expensive in itself) is also the cost of the technology upgrade to facilitate the new trains.

Thank you for clarifying that... Don't you use the MAPO override for reverse as well??

This was when Teal was testing... It's funny how there was vinyl on the windows, and the lettering was already on... On the new #12, there is nothing but solid color, lol...

Let me make sure I understand. By cab, you mean the forward and rear section where the pilot sits at the front and back of car 1 and 6, right? So, the cabs are brand new, but the rest of car 1 and 6 are Pink/Purple? Or, the entire car 1 and 6 are new. Sorry to be a pain...engineer in me is really curious what pieces are re-used and which are brand new.

Or, I can ask this way:
If I get on Peach car 1 or car 6, am I standing in what used to be the front cars on Pink/Purple? Thanks everyone. It is exciting to get #12 back on the beams.

Yes the actual passenger areas are the exact same that were on Pink/Purple that night on Cars 6/1 respectively. The only brand new construction was the cabs where the pilot is on both ends.

The damaged cabs were chopped off each train up to just before the passenger compartment on July 5th and new ones were built in their place after the trains were released back to Disney.

Good thing you are on these boards Peachy, you are a wealth of Monorail knowledge!

I bet they could use a modified RFID system. The cost of something like that (as compared to new trains/systems) wouldn't be that much.

It looks to me from the photo that the skirts have been painted. They are missing the pin striping as well as the "Walt Disney World Monorail System" lettering.
