Phone interviews?

Hello... I seem to be a bit confusified!

When I go in for my interview this week.... I will watch the presentation and then be interviewed in person right? ....but I have read that they do a phone interview at the school? Why are they doing phone interviews at school when you can do them in person? I don't understand.

Oh, and if anyone has any tips for me to say/do there, it would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think they only do phone interviews if you watched the presentation online. I'm sure you will do just fine when they interview you! Good luck! ;)

They have changed the system. Now there are phone interviews ONLY. I went to my presentation expecting to be interviewed there as well. But you do have to go to a presentation to sign up for a phone interview (schedule it). I don't know why they even have live presentations anymore.

I'm somewhat sure that dressing up doesn't matter, but when the lady was scheduling my interview and whatnot, she could've been taking some notes. I know she asked me whether or not I had tatoos and whether I conformed with the Disney Look, so she also could've made note that I dressed up. So, unless dressing up is really uncomfortable for you, I'd do it anyway.

And the phone interview was really easy. Just be sure to articulate well and sound excited and competent.

I just got back from my presentation and was surprised to learn that we couldn't interview in person. I had been thinking about it all day, and wanted to get it over with. And on top of it all, the system was down so I couldn't schedule my interview and have to call them tomorrow.

A few questions:

Does anyone know why they are only doing the phone interviews now?

They said it takes about 30 minutes, does it really last that long?

What sort of questions do they ask?

They're doing phone interviews for greater flexibility. My interview took about fifteen minutes (I think; I didn't time it or look at a clock, but it seemed about that long). I'm pretty sure questions differ, but my interviewer asked me about my favorite disney memory, what i wanted to do at disney, when had i seen exceptional customer service, what would i do with the kid that wasn't tall enough for space mountain, would i ever do qsf&b, etc. I posted all this in great detail on my livejournal: www.livejournal.com/users/sarbruis (I think that's the url).

I read through your lj, came in handy- thanks for the link.

I just had my interview, I definitely feel like I nailed it. Just out of curiousity, what did you say about doing quick serve f&b? I was afraid to tell them no but I really don't want to.

Well, anyway, with any luck I'll see you at the the Most Magical Place on Earth this January!! :sohappy:

I just had my interview... it went really well I think.

The interviewer focused all his questions all around my number one choice, which was merchandise. He asked questions like; "How would you handle a situation where you are at a register and there are a long line of guests?" , "What would you do if you were working in MouseGear and a guest was looking for a Mickey which they had saw in the Emporium?", and "If you were doing my job, what qualities would you look for in college students applying?".

What was really great for me was my interviewer, before landing his role at interviewing students, he worked at The Disney Store for five years.. and he actually talked to me about how things were in the stores right now and stuff.

It was a very easy going interview... took about 30 minutes... and my answer to the dreadful food and beverage question was, "Well, I'll do anything... but that is definately at the bottom of the list".

He said I should know within two weeks.. I'll make sure to let you all know.

If I dont get accepted... I dont know what I'll do. I'll move down there. ha.

Hey! I had my interview a little less than a week ago and I think it went very well. I was wondering at what point did you label which role was your first choice, second choice, etc. I just saw checkboxes! Thanks!

Well, you're correct, on the roles checklist, all you did was check which roles you were interetested in. However, during my phone interview, he asked me which was my number one choice.

Good luck to all who interviewed...

Yeah, the interviewer will ask you what your first choice is, and she asked my second choice, too, or at least I said it. So you can tell them your choices, but no where can you mark them (it's just check boxes).

Ok thanks!. I don't remember her asking me but she did say that she saw that I checked QSF&B and asked me a lot of questions pertaining to that. hmm... I hope if they accept me they don't think that was my first choice! :-S

She may have and I just don't remember. She asked me why I checked only a couple and I told her that I have a physical disability that limits what I do (i.e. standing for a long time, walking long distances, and lifting heavy things). She may have asked me then..not sure. Good luck everyone!

I interviewed this past Friday (Oct. 7) and I think it went pretty well. I'll keep everyone posted- and keep your fingers crossed for me!

Question for yall, I'm going to a presentation on Monday. How long was the time between presentation and interview? I want to get it done as quickly as possible so that way I can get my answer as soon as possible. I'm going to WDW from November 18 to the 25th and I would really like to know by the time I get out there.

And to any future applicants, don't worry about the phone interview. Its very laid back and social. I applyed to the WDWCP Fall '05 and got accepted but couldn't go. Heres some advice that I found helpful...

  • Smile while you're talking on the phone. It will come across in your voice.
  • If you can, go outside where you can walk around on a cordless or cell phone. It really helped me to be able to pace. If I were to be sitting I would have been way too nervous.
  • Carry on a conversation. The interviewer will mostly be talking to you in a casual conversation. Stay on your toes but keep it casual.
  • Be Yourself. There is no better tip. They are looking for people with good personalities and they can pick it up if you just be yourself.
My interviewer last semester was awesome. I called him right after I got my packet and thanked him and he seemed to really appreciate that. We stayed in touch through the whole time. In fact, I called him so much that he started to find it funny but told me he loved my enthusiasm and drive. Even when he told me that I couldn't go because of a problem with my school, he was very supportive and very helpful. He made sure I understood what was going on and how I could fix it. And he has kept in touch with me to keep me updated on the Spring '06 recruiting season. Hope to see yall in January!

Got my letter of acceptance today. Operations CP, Spring 2006!!
Congrats!! I forgot to post it, but I too got my acceptance letter last week. Originally they put me in Quick Service F&B, but I emailed them and they were more than happy to change it to Operations!

I guess they'll be a whole bunch of us down there workin' the rides. :sohappy:
