Phone crushed on TOT

We got stuck on Tower of Terror... someone dropped their cell phone AND bag in the drop shaft! The ride RAN OVER the cell phone, it is CRUSHED. and the bag was right on the bottom of the drop as well. Maintenance showed us the phone right in front of us. Like wow. That was interesting.

And this is why we should be kind of grateful the Skyway is gone. Just imagine all those phones dropping from the gondolas and injuring the people walking below.

Flight of Passage concerns me for that reason.

Wait...FOP actually hangs the motorcycle things above each other?

I thought the design was staggered like the Back to the Future ride vehicles.

This whole thing has me shaking my head at how someone could drop a phone in the first place on TOT and also has me concerned about people not enjoying TOT or any ride to the fullest.

My first ride on TOT was in 1995. If you had a cell phone, it probably lived in your car and was the size of an average brick. Sure, people had cameras, but film was limited and everyone knew there were ride photos at the end. People actually soaked in every detail of the ride, from the detailed queue to the experience itself. It was a completely immersive experience.

TOT (and all of the rides) are still immersive experiences, but so many choose not to partake there. They're too busy trying to snap Instagram fodder, send a live tweet during the ride, or putting their posts on that silly Snap Chat thing so someone can watch them drop and never see it again. Yes, they may be getting the drops and riding the same ride I rode in 1995, but are they really getting the full experience from the ride? It's not like this is some carnival or fair ride that you can find pretty much anywhere in the summertime, this is something that only exists in one park (I don't count the other Towers of Terror/former Towers of Terror since Florida has a unique design compared to them--and yes, I believe that to be the correct plural).

Therefore, I must suggest the best place to keep a phone: at home. I did this on my most recent trip, and there was nothing more satisfying than knowing that I was truly disconnected and could just soak in the sights, sounds, and experiences. Plus, not having a phone meant I didn't have to ruin it for anyone else--there's nothing worse than seeing a cell phone army coming down Main Street, stopping randomly to snap pictures or check someone's silly Facebook status.

Someone mentioned putting the cell phone on display. How can it go on display when it wound up in the Twilight Zone? :)

My husband has always kept his phone in a shirt pocket for TOT and never had a problem -- until we went in July. The phone flew straight up out of his pocket and came down on the floor between him and our daughter. She put her foot on top of it to hold it in place through multiple drops. Fortunately, no one was hit by the phone and it wasn't damaged. However, we now have a funny ride photo and an even funnier video taken right when my very shocked husband realized the phone was no longer in his pocket.

He learned his lesson, though. The phone will now be left with whomever in our party isn't going on the ride (usually me).

"Disney did not do enough to protect my personal belongings! I paid $100 for my park ticket, that should entitle me to more personal item protection! They should post a warning outside of the attraction about possible flying objects during ride operation! I'm not happy, Disney, and you need to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!"

Wow- the last time I was on ToT the CM did tell us to put belongings in the net bag that is attached to the back of seat in front of us or things would fly. Have the net bags been removed? I contend those are there for a reason and to use it.

Despite the hate some people have for them on this forum, cargo shorts are handy for putting something in the leg pocket and closing the little flap; hence, cargo shorts are on my person every day I spend at WDW. I am a tiny bit OCD, so before and after every ride, as well as every 10 minutes of walking, I am checking the pockets to make sure everything is in there. :D

Same! I wear cargo shorts every day at Disney. What? Would you rather I wear a fannypack? hahaha

Looks like we're going all-out 90s between all of these posts!! Between not having a phone in the park, using Comic Sans, and wearing cargo shorts, the 90s are back!! What next, Disney brings back Pleasure Island?
Pleasure Island > Disney Springs

Umm. So am I really not supposed to wear my cargo shorts anymore? I'm going to check this out when I go to the supermarket later today.
