Peter Pans Flight

Probably because of the outrageous wait times for a two minute ride. Might as well make it an experience start to finish...and probably because is was cheaper to do that than to re-do an entire ride.

I personally love the ride the way it is and with a little housekeeping and sprucing up it could be brought back. It is kind of like IASW...what can you do to improve it without scrapping the entire classic experience? The only thing I think they could do would be to somehow increase the ride capacity but the only way to do that would be with larger ride vehicles and the overhead ride track system would then probably need to be replaced. FP is what really crushes the queue times for stand by riders with this attraction.

Why did they go through all that trouble to redo the queue if there not redoing the ride? The queue is more impressive then the ride

For the Disney higher-ups, it appears that at times they put more value on words like "original" and "nostalgia" than on "quality" and "improvement". I get the nostalgic part of Peter Pan's Flight......I've always enjoyed it since I was a kid and rode it the first time. On the other hand, given the advancements in ride technology that have been made since PPF was created, it's a shame that they never looked to employ some of those things into the attraction itself. I'd be all for them keeping the ride system in place (the flying pirate ships), but they could do so much more with the rest of it, including updating all of the animatronics.

Walt always said the parks were a living, breathing thing .. not a museum. Classic or not, rides should be updated as time goes by. Now, keeping the original nostalgia and story while updating the tech .. now that's the trick. But hey, that is what the imagineers get paid to do. :)

To the OPs point tho, yeah, disappointing the ride hasn't received any love. I'm sure it was an accounting-only decision

That ride is always packed, no matter what.
I know I was there while construction was going on and I did notice a slight change in the line format. Not sure what else they did.
I was under the impression they were also changing the ride itself!

I consider the new queue a great improvement to the area. It has become part of the "show"/attraction itself. I don't really think there is anything "wrong" with the ride itself, so the new queue is more welcome to me than any ride changes. I usually FP it, but we made sure to go through the new queue once or twice on our last trip to see it, and it was great. I will do the standby line at least once every trip now just to see it all. I would've done the same with the Mine Train on the last trip, as well, but my wife is pregnant and can't ride it, so I didn't want to make her go through the standby line and take the chicken exit or just wait while I went through that queue.

I like the new queue and as a Walt Disney World enthusiast love everything about the classic rides, but I feel that it is time to remove the classic opening day rides or at least give them a very modern facelift. Lets face it little 3 year olds are already used to iPads and technology from a young age Peter Pan must not impress them at all. The Queue is nice but a modern facelift is needed for the ride. They removed Snow White, I think they can take this ride out or at least upgrade it. It's not to upset fans of the ride but I believe it's time for an upgrade. As much as I enjoy the Carousel of Progress I too think it's time to Progress and Update the show.

The ride could use a refurbishment -- not a big change, but a good "spiff up." Fresh paint, new lighting, top-of-the-line speakers, quieter (less squeaky/creaky) movement of ships along the track.

I respectfully disagree with those who suggest that legacy attractions should be removed or significantly revamped in favor of things that will impress small children. There is a value on nostalgia, and many adults (myself included) would find the quality of a Disney visit significantly diminished if they couldn't revisit attractions they loved as a child. I also think that the iPad generation isn't as difficult to impress as one may think. My children are as tech-savvy as anyone in their age group, yet they get as big a kick out of the Enchanted Tiki Room as they do out of Soarin', Splash Mountain or Toy Story Midway Mania. I know they would have loved the original Imagination, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Snow White, and many other legacy attractions that have already gone the way of the buffalo. Good storytelling is good storytelling, regardless of the decade from which it hails.

yes. My kid begs to play on the ipad but can be just as happy with a roll of tape, paper and kid scissors.
She has just as much fun playing in the cool station water misters as she did riding Test Track.

Upgrading this ride would be tricky for sure-it would have to keep with the overall feel of the ride, improving where possible (imagine Hook and Pan sword fighting with the speed of those newer figures at Disneyland's PotC), but not dramatically altering the intangible reason so many are willing to wait an hour or more to experience it.

A good example (in my opinion) of the kind of upgrade I mean is the upgraded staircase in the HM-with its Escher aesthetics, which was a marked improvement from the scene it replaced/improved upon. For one-it actually resembles a staircase now.

Not everything should be gutted/replaced. There's still a magic in craning my neck and looking at all the tiny details of the London streets below. Generally, it just needs a good cleaning/repainting-and possibly removing copious amounts of tin foil-and enhancing the existing effects with modern touches, and the ride would feel good as new.

What are the plus everyone talks about for the DL ride? I have not been on it in the last ten years so I am always lost and confused.
