Permits Filed for Phase 2

I'm sure the views will be appropriately blocked from each other by fencing, trees, etc. But yeah, i'm sure you'll still be able to see some of Tomorrowland when the Dumbos are up.

It's an amusement park. There's only so much that can be done. You can see Space Mountain from the Dumbos now. I don't think anyone's vacation is ruined.
I never suggested anyone's vacation would be ruined. I just prefer that, when WDW gets funding, which doesn't happen very often anymore, it is spent on improving guest experience.

Which guests would that be? The ones who appreciate the efforts being put into the FLE, or the ones who are upset that they may have a view of the Speedway from Dumbo?

Give it time to pan out.....

I do "appreciate the efforts," but I don't view them with rose-tinted glasses.

And if I am supposed to wait until they are done w/ this project before commenting, we might as well close this Fantasyland Expansion board.

And because after all, there's nothing better than passing judgment based on permits being filed....

I doubt seriously that the speedway will be visible in any significant way.

I don't believe it will either. But even if it were, I don't see it as being a big deal in the end. Not with all of the effort being put into the FLE overall....

I think the bigger question it what are you going to see out the front of Dumbo? Now that pixie hollow is allegedly dead, what is going to go in the area where the rest of toontown is now.

I guess I would see as a big deal if the raceway was intruding on Dumboland as I think it is vital that the illusion be maintained. But I am somewhat of an old school purist. There has just been too much compromise in recent years at Disney parks. Lasseter seems to have brought that to a screeching halt however. He definitely understands the product.

It appears to me that the 'tent' will mask Tomorrowland quite well and I am not the least bit worried. :lookaroun Really.

I think between whatever "walls" they can put into place, along with the foliage that they seem to move around at will, the FLE will merge into TL and the Speedway area fairly seamlessly. Will it be perfect? Probably not to all. But I also don't think they'll necessarily cut corners there either....

And besides, this is still a discussion about the permits (or was :)). A "wait and see" attitude (to me) isn't a rose-colored appraisal, it's pragmatism......

Ah...that's no fun, though. More interesting to see it as part of some larger plan.

Screamscapce has a link to a site with some new pictures of the Speedway. It clearly looks like they are moving that turn in a bit and away from where Dumbo will be.

I tried posting a link directly to the site where the pictures are, but it got removed from the post. Anyone know why? Is that site forbidden for some reason?

Seeing those photos, I would completely agree that they're literally moving the track.

yes. i was under the assumption the final turn was going to be sharper/shorter than what it is now.

thats why they're working on one lane at a time that way you can construct on the ride without shutting it down.

Actually if anyone has the blueprint that shows Dumbo by the raceway I would appreciate it if you could post it here. Thanks. :king:

I found these, no clue on how old they are or what version.

That seems like a very poor use of the budget if they really are moving that corner.

I think it makes sense. Once Dumbo moves into that space any land behind it (between the Raceway and Barnstormer) will become unusable dead space. By alterting that curve, which in the grand scheme is probably not a very expensive change, it will let them tuck Dumbo back as far as they can and leave more space up front.
