Open Letter to Cast Members

Dear BuzzBabe 24 and all other Cast Members reading this -

As a fan of WDW, I wish to tip my hat to you. You people make our vacation magical each and every time. Thank you for coming to work. Thank you for calling me by name when you see it on my charge card. Thank you for being you.

Unfortunately, some people are just inconsiderate slugs who care for no one but themselves. I can't help but think how did their parents raise them? You get so much further in this world by remembering to say please, thank you and your welcome.

Please keep doing what you're doing. You are the reason WDW etal is our families favorite vacation destination. Thank you for all you've done to make our vacations great.

Nansafan

PS, I couldn't figure out how to say your welcome in the last paragraph so I just added it here.

On my last trip, i had to go with my friends girlfriend, who is the queen of rude. She was so embarassing whenever we went out to eat. Rather than asking, she would demand things. She made my trip a pain in the rear. :fork:

I've been physically accosted by guests more than one time... in that same light, I've also had more than one guest removed from Disney property and trespassed before (literally more than one.. I think my count right now is 2)

My family and I were in the Castle one morning in the waiting area for our breakfast seating, and a man went completely crazy because his reservation was messed up--now, I do realize that we all jump through many hoops to get those ressies, but this guy was nuts. He was getting louder, and they were trying to calm him down, because, of course, that area is crowded with people at that time in the am--well, they bring in fairy godmother to talk calmly to him, and he shook his finger at her and actually said "Get the ---- away from me!!!" He cursed the Fairy Godmother! ---they escorted him out right away--a memory that wasn't pleasant, but one we talk about everytime we are there!:hammer:

On this guest´s defense, I would have probably say the same... bringing the "fairy godmother" to deal with him was not a clever idea... in fact, it looks like a mock.

Rob, how do you keep your cool in those situations?

I don't think its just WDW Cast members that have rude guests; it happens in every job that involves customer interaction. I have had a few service industry jobs such as being a waiter, barman, shop assistant, and you are generally (not always) seen as part of the furniture... you are there to do a job, and you are expected to have no feelings what so ever. Customers are rude, no please or thank you, manners cost nothing.

In most cases customers are all to eager to complain but never compliment, I will always go out of my way to write a letter/email/customer comment card when I have received good service or there was a staff member that was exceptional. I ordered a pizza from Pizza Hut on Saturday, the guy at the end of the phone was so helpful, friendly and great at his job, I wrote a letter to the manager telling him this. Things like that are always nice to hear when you are working in any industry or job.

I believe in treating people in the same way you would like to be treated. At WDW the Cast do not deserve to be treated like sh*t, because they are fantastic and do a great job. Things do go wrong from time to time, but I bet its never the cast members fault that the guest is shouting at, 9 times out of 10 it is probably the guest in the wrong, and the Disney cast will bend over backwards to try and rectify any problems.

not always. we get the grouches i assure you.

If it makes you feel any better consider this. People, in general, are part of the sad world of today where everyone is grumpy, rude, and self-centered. If they choose to go to Disney World they are seeking some type of escape. When they go they almost automatically react with hateful spite and bitterness when the opportunity presents itself. (Not everyone is like this) But at least you can take comfort in the fact that many of these people will gain a lot of insight on life if you are polite and curtious regardless of the situation. Often for first timers (to Disney) they do not even realize how much better things were until they return to reality. Your caring, tolerance, and consideration shines through at that moment. Some may even realize what an ______ they were to you, and at least most of them will remember your respect, dignity, and sympathy you gave even under fire of direct assault.

I applaud you for your efforts to uphold Disney values and a higher standard of overall upbringing in the heat of conflict. Just remember for every dozen or more happy people you meet and keep happy, it's really the sour individual who's outlook you change or influence that really makes it worth while. It may not reflect atm, but trust me, it sticks with many of them. So keep the Disney spirit alive, tough it out, never take it personally, and always spread the magic. :)

Well I always try to be as nice as possible towards CM's. My family goes to disney so much, and we interact with the CM's so much you really let them know how much you appreciate what they are doing to make your experience more enjoyable. When I start work in June, I expect the same curtousey from guests as I know all of you have given. If I get a rude guest, I will just smile and do my job.

Well said Buzz Babe, how bout those guests you have to deal with at the "merge point"? (where the stand by line and the fast pass line meet) You want to see the nastiest of guests, just hang out at the merge point for a little while.

OMG, YES!!!!!!!

wow you guys have really cheered me up! see its people like you that i dint meet as often. your right they are too busy going around like chicken with their head cut off that they stop to realize they are on VACATION! and we all know florida weather. every time it rains its the casts fault:eek: when the fastpass line is moving faster than the regular line its ths casts fault(get a fastpass). when the ride breaks and they have to wait a few extra minutes its the casts fault(and buzz does it alot).these people fail to realize that this stuff is out of our hands and we try to do whatever is possible to help when we can.relax, its gonna be okay.you wont melt in the rain, the fastpass is open for everyone, and machines cant run flawless forever. disney to me is the best place i have ever worked in my life. the sounds the laughter the fireworks parades and the all around magic. i have meet some of the most incredable people there and i hope i keep meeting them. my hats go off to you who have posted your responses. your the people i smile for. thanks! its all about the magic:sohappy:

wow...after reading everyone's wonderful and very sweet and caring replies, it really makes me appreciate my job even more. i think i would have the best day at work EVER if i ran into each of you who posted replies to this thread. i only wish that the rest of the general public was as kind as you all. sometimes it feels like guests treat cm's as part of the ride...they rarely seem to care what we have to say and sometimes down right ingnore us. it's so difficult to keep that smile on your face when you have people yelling at you that they have been waiting in line for 45 minutes and the sign only said 25 and fast pass is moving and they aren't and what's up with that....ugghhh! while i totally understand the frustrations of waiting in line and waiting longer than you thought you would, shouting at me will not help anything. cast members are never too busy or uncaring to not listen to guest's complaints...it would just be nice if the guests understood that all the theatrics are not needed. Please just tell us what is wrong and we will do our best to help you out.
hopefully the next time i am at work, i will see more guests like the ones on this board. it would definately make a magical moment for me to see happy people who are enjoying themselves.

Geez, I can't believe how rude some people are. I've seen people rip CM's a "new one" for absolutely no reason.
Just to let you know, I have never been mean to a cast member, infact I take every opportunity to talk to them. They're wonderful people! ....and they know a lot of inside Disney info

Every time I go to WDW, it never ceases(sp?) to amaze me how rude some people can be. As a hopefull future CM, I take the time to talk to every CM who might have a second to spare. I too know how frustrating long lines, rain, and breakdowns can be. I have never been able to understand how people seem to think that yelling ans stamping their feet at a CM will help. Guests that do that should be taken backstage, and made to work at a lunch counter for CM's, while wearing a HUGE button that says "I was extremely rude to one of you.":D

I can't believe how rude some of the guests at WDW are. Family holidays can be stressful - and when something goes wrong it is the nearest CM that usually cops for it.
Why can't these idiots be escorted from the parks - it doesn't matter how much these CM's are paid; they are not paid to be on the receiving end of other peoples s**t

on my last disney trip there were 2 occaisions that really stood out to me as rude guests... one was there were all these people on the bus to typhoon lagoon and this lady had her kids stand partially on the wrong side of the yellow line near the doors because the bus was so packed and her kids were so little that the bus driver couldn't really see them ... well the entire bus ride the mother kept complaining how the bus driver shouldn't be letting her kids stand there ...how it was dangerous .They also complained that the bus went too fast and said the driver was driving recklessly but when we had to wait because we were behind an accident then they complained he was being too slow :brick:
then they complained because he was singing a little song about typhoon lagoon and that he told stories ... meanwhile everyone else applauded when he was finished but they said they were going to file a complaint ...well i went over and told dwayne (the busdriver) not to let them get to him i though it was a fun busride and he rocks :) he seemed to appreciate it and gave me a little card it was cute :)

As a DL CM, I can honestly say, that for every rude Guest I have encountered, I have had hundreds more that have been the most gracious, and the children are the best!
Guest comments are the best way to show appreciation for great service, but I can honestly say, that the look on a relieved parents face, or a generous smile and big thank you from a guest, are a smile from someone is even better...:)
I had recently had guests from Mexico, whom I spent quite a bit of time assisting with a sale, and helping them shop. I also ended up ringing them out, and they wanted to give me small Mexican tokens as a thank you, I graciously declined, and they looked heartbroken! I asked them to let my lead know about how they felt, and they did. It was the nicest gesture!
I try to help in any way I can, and lots of people appreciate that...it wayyy outdoes the grouches;)
