I dunno, soft openings usually dont happen on weekends. I'm in a fairly foul mood with a headache right now - so it's not looking too good.

I might if i hear it's open at park opening or something.

Imagineers.. let's see.. umm, blue badges, dont wear the name tags but clip them onto something, and the ones on SSE generally look completely unprofessional with their jeans torn, shirts untucked and barely buttoned, and their faces unshaven. Kinda like hippies.

Not every one looks like that, and the women tend to be far more presentable.

Thankyou for the description so I know who to look for.

Didn't someone say that people going this weekend would be very happy  I dunno, I was gonna be there anyway so we shall see I guess.

I assume you have multiple people with the ability to post here while at SSE, but on the outside chance that it's open and no one is around that can post (including me) feel free to PM me your cell # if you'd like a text message if it opens up.

edit:
500th post!
:) for me and
 compared to everyone else

I have to say if indeed it turns out that they have turned the descent on SSE into nothing more than a glorified touch screen survey with a light show then I will be very unhappy.

Where is the soul in that, where is the heart in that, the old score mixed with the city of tomorrow and the various scenes (Doctors etc...) then moving into the light tunnel for the final portion worked beautifully. It gave a grand overview of our planet and the people on it, it showed the human soul of "Our Spaceship Earth", then the final light tunnel leading from the city of tomorrow all gave us time to think, the rousing score all-most challenged us to think about our planet and where we are heading. The ending was by no means technically perfect, the light effects could have done with updating, the model was looking dated etc... Which is why when I heard they were updating the Descent I was hoping they were going to expand upon these ideas and make them even grander, unfortunately this seems not to be the case.

Now I can not help but feel where as I used to come off SSE feeling elated, thinking about the world etc... that things now wont seem a little flat. Lets hope this is not the case and WDI just have not finished yet with the Descent.

I agree completely, but I'm reserving judgement and holding out hope that the "finale" is not being shown to riders at this time because I can't believe they have no big finish.

The first time I rode SSE I got goosebumps when we reached the top. After going through the entire journey through time with the different scenes surrounding us on either side, when we "emerged" at the top as the beautiful musical score reached it's powerful, moving crescendo and that seemingly huge expanse of space opened up before us, it was just so stirring and impressive. I will be shocked and very disappointed if there is nothing left of that grandeur.

I didn't expect (or want) them to leave it exactly as it was and the new scenes sound great. I also liked the chariot racing through the streets of Rome (seems that was pretty popular) and would have liked to see that one improved and kept, but much of the ride was dated and needed to be enhanced and upgraded with the latest technology. However, they definitely should not have lost any of the wow factor. They should have seriously amped up the wow factor, especially in the finale.

I'm already very disappointed that according to reports I've read so far, the ride system itself is just as jerky as it was before. No one has commented on the squeaking that was so distracting it ruined the ride for me the last time I went on it so maybe at least that has been resolved.

I don't want to be negative and like I said earlier, I'm assuming there is much more that hasn't been revealed yet. They've done so much right in this refurb so far, I have to believe they won't let us down with the final show.

I was there from 8:30 - 9. A cast member outside told me that he thought there was a small chance of it opening tomorrow. I get out of work at 3, so I guess I'll spend the rest of the day lurking around SSE.

Thanks to all for the info. SSE is one of my faves, so I can't wait to ride in February.

And while it's nice to read about what's been done, I'm not making my mind up whether I like it or not until after I ride it - probably several times. It would be really foolish of me to bash it and then have to eat my typed words later. Ya know?

Thanks again, everyone!

All judgment should be held until Feb. until then we should all consider the ride still in refurbishment and make no absolute judgment on the new version.

Just my two cents...

Yeah, there are lighting effects throughout the entire descent. It would seem that most of them are not on....
Thank you. I guess we should wait until we see the finished product.

Where have we come from, where are we going? The answers live in our past...

For eons our planet has drifted as a spaceship through the universe...

-Irons isn`t the only one missed!

I'll be at Epcot today wearing my WDWMagic Shirt. Even though I won't be standing around SSE all day, I'll be wandering the park.

And I just looked out my Coronado Springs room window, and there is a hot air balloon off in the distance. It's' purple, so not mickey or SSE. :(

adding my thanks to all of you who have taken the time not only to share with all of us your experiences, but taking the time to actually go over to Epcot to do so ....... Happy Holidays !!!!!!!!:xmas::xmas:

Errrr, if I come, I will be alone. I have NEVER been in WDW alone, except for in the restroom or something of the sort. I am always there with the fiancee or family. I kind of like the idea of wandering the World solo...no one to tend to....hmmmm. But, the 3.5 hour drive does not sound exciting solo. Come on guys, help me deceide...should I jump in the car and make my way, hoping to get lucky with SSE!?:veryconfu

i got off the ride about 20 mins ago.

Better review when I make it to my PC on Monday. Its a work in progress at the end, but its a good ride.
