Paying my last respects to Space Mountain

To be honest, I'm going to miss the current version of Space Mountain. Sure I'm excited and curious to see what changes will be made, but there is a side of me that wishes they would just leave it as is... it's classic and has always been a favorite of mine.

This Saturday morning I plan to be one of the first guests to enter the Magic Kingdom and I'll be heading straight for Space Mountain. I'll grab a Fastpass and then hop in the stand by line, and repeat the process until:

a) it gets too crowded
b) my body can't take it anymore
c) it finally hits me that Space Mountain as I know it, and have always known it, is changing.
d) all of the above

Most likely it will be d :)

Saturday will be bittersweet for sure.

Yep.

Though my sentiments as I go up that upramp for the last time in awhile will be more along the lines of "So long and CLEAN YOURSELF UP for Pete's Sake."

Farewell, creaky, outdated, dirty, bumpy, over-lit, outdated Space Mountain.

But you still have the best track layout and queue music of the traditional ones.

While I'm sad that Space Mountain will change....very, very sad....and sad that I can't go ride it on its last day....

BUT change is good. :king: I'm psyched to see what they do with it.

I was lucky and got a chance to ride it recently with my very best friend. And we had a freaking blast.

RIP old Space Mountain. I pray the new you is gonna be fantastic.

Just think, what if things get so dire for Disney that it has to pull all funds from the refurb and the building sits, unused and unloved for a decade or so or even becomes the 1000th ghost on Mansion. You might want to prepare a eulogy or at least say your last respects, just in case.

Im also looking forward to the new and improved SM.
Disney has done alot of refurbs lately, im very happy about that as well.
I consider HM to be the best so far. Im satisfied with POTC,SSE and according to me friend, who just rode the recently refurbed UofE, he stated the films were like new again and the ride was in tip top shape.
Kudos to disney for the refurbs....keep em comin.

i did the same thing, actually 3x with 3 different people.

after the 3rd trip i actually came to the realization that it was going and that all good things have there run, i made sure to tape it (multiple times), and picuture the hell outa the queue. only thing i regret is not riding it in the light, but it happens. now im just anxious to see if it actually DOES get re-opened in time for my december trip. knowing disney no, but i would rather have a huge delay and a track overhaul > mini referb and all this time down wasted

Does anyone know if the New Space Mountain will rival the one in France? (Space Mountain Mission:2)

It needs a good scrub though. People when it opens again, please don't put your gum everywhere, its gross and rude.

Nope. Not even close.
Nothing they can do to MK's SM will put it in the league with the one at DLP.
(Well...they could...but they won't spend the money.)

This is how I feel about DLR's old Space Mountain. The new one is waaaaaay better, but I still miss the old one and wish I could ride it again.

I remember crying when my dad took me on this ride about 20 years ago, but in those 20 years I've grown to love, fear(I'm 6'4"), and respect that ride. I will miss her, but also look forward to the great big beautiful tommarowland Space Mountain:V2
