Paying for other people to go.....

Whenever I tell my friends and family that I'm paying for "so and so" to go to the World so I'll have a traveling companion they think I'm nuts. Does anyone else here do this? So far I've paid for partial trips for my grandparents, my best friend and her son, and now my mom. I'm not rich by any means, but I have this STRONG obsession to go a few times a year.

Is this really nuts? Does anyone else feel that they spend more than they should to travel to the World?

Help because some people that I know are making me feel like I need therapy or something.

I'm not as bad as some though---Last trip (June) we were in line at a gift shop at MK and the lady in front of me had 2 credit cards rejected. She was mortified and looked back at me---I just said, "Sometimes that happens when you are having a good time at Disney World!" She just laughed and paid by check. LOL how much you wanna bet it was a bad one?

Anyway--I'm not going into DEBT going on these trips--but of course I could always pay more on my mortgage and/or put more in my IRA or my son's college fund. Is this obession really too self-indulgent?

I keep seeing so many "young" people dying around me and I wonder if they ever followed their dreams and obsessions and I just keep going........

It seems to me that you are subsidizing trips for other people because you enjoy WDW soooooo much that you want to share it.

I'm sure you get a thrill when someone experiences the World for the first time.

I think you are wonderful for sharing like this.

You said you are not going into debt for this, so I can't see the harm.

We could always find "better" uses of our money, no matter what we spend it on.

And you are right--there are no guarantees in this life--you've got to enjoy what you have for the time you have it.

Take your trips, take whomever you wish, and have a blast!!

PS Rest assured that those who think you are obsessed with WDW have their own little secrets--shoes, cars, furniture, computers, home improvements, etc.

I say, if you want to pay for other people to go with you and you can afford it, then GO FOR IT!

Disney is way more fun with someone than alone.

With that being said, What time you picking me up?

We are by no means "rich", but I wanted my parents to join us at EPCOT for one day of our trip, so I am paying for a meal at a sit-down while there and footing the bill for their room that night. I don't think you are crazy in the least.

I agree! I have paid "more than my share" of WDW vacations, but I don't mind! #1...I can afford it! #2 I enjoyed having the company! ;)

I'm don't think I would do this EVERY trip, but if I want to subsidize a friend or relative, or a "buddy" for my kids, from time to time, what's the harm? As long as I'm not going onto debt, who cares? ;)

Prep, I am the strictest Mom you could ever meet...and I snore! Trust me, you don't want to stay with me! My daughter always told me she was "leaving home." And she did! ;)

I happen to agree with all the other people who have posted thus far. As long as it is something YOU want to do and arent getting into major debt over it, who cares?? If you are happy that is the main point of the whole deal isnt it?? And I agree with Yellow Shoes!! There is something like that in everyone's life. Ours just happens to revolve around a Mouse!! My mom ( dad has passed away) took the whole family, me and my husband and child. My brother and his wife and child and my youngest brother, his wife and 5 kids. My mom is not rich but my brothers are preachers. My youngest with 5 kids is preaching and planting a church for a denomination that doesn't pay much. Mom got the Disney tickets, plane fare, rental vans and a house.

Those 5 kids had the time of their lives. It was so worth it. If it wasn't for my mom they would never have been able to go.

My mom couldn't do anymore so my husband and I paid for treats like character breakfast, flashlights at the night parade, ice cream, Braves tickets and souvenirs. I don't regret it for one minute. It was the best Disney trip ever and since I got home God has rewarded us in many ways including unexpected raises. I totally believe in sharing the wealth and fun.

I have treated a few times, especially when I was single. I did it for the same reasons Mom and Yellow Shoes stated. I get a thrill seeing someone experience WDW for the first time and believe me; if I win the lottery tonight, alot of friends will be treated.
I used to catch alot of flack from co-workers about going to WDW so often. Some of them were quite rude. However I shut them up when I pointed out that they made their choice to marry young, and have babies, I made mine to enjoy alot of things before I settled down.

Hey you aren't nuts. And even if your friends think you are, let them be. its like the old saying goes "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

This past summer my Aunt and Uncle took my sister and i to WDW. They already have kids that are grown up, so they really wanted someone young to go with them. It wasn't a burdent to them. And we all enjoyed each others company.

Also, while we were there a friend of ours who is a cast member, was able to get three of us into the parks for free each day. Though she had to drive 20 minutes, park and walk to meet us at each entrance every day. She didn't have to but she wanted to out of the kindness of her heart.

So don't feel bad. the memories you experience with them are much more everlasting than anything you could have bough yourself.
Keep up the good work!

You're not crazy at all. It's your money, spend it on what and on whom you choose. Sounds like lots of us have done the same thing. I know I picked up Park Tix and Hotel for my brother this year, so we could go together.

Of course, you could always decide not to pay for someone else and do a solo trip to the World. I enjoyed going by myself once, cuz I didn't have to worry about compromising about what do do all the time. It was all about what I wanted. That can be a REAL rush!:sohappy:

You're not crazy at all! I'd do the same thing myself if I could! Unfortunately, right now I can't afford to take myself to WDW (much less anyone else! ), but I'd do it if I could in a flash! :)

I think it is VERY sweet of you to do this for someone else! It is your money and I am a firm believer of "you can;t take it with you" (much to my DH's chagrin-lol). Sure you could do a lot of things with that money but I bet it isn't worth half as much as seeing the sheer joy on your friend/family/child friend's face the first time they walk into Magic Kingdom!! Good for you!

You're not crazy!! There's nothing wrong with wanting to share an experience like WDW with someone who may not get an opportunity to.

As others have posted, we could all spend money on other things, but I think you will get a lot of enjoyment spending it this way!!

have a great time!
