Below is the e-mail that I recieved from Disney this morning:

Veeerrrryyyyy iiiinteresting........... I wonder if this means that you can get the DDP with an AP room discount, or does it just mean they're removing the ticket requirement from a full-priced MYW Plus Dining package (and to do so you have to present proof of having an AP).

I wonder how this would work with a mixed-reservation. Some in the party with an AP, some without.

(BTW, this is big enough that perhaps a Moderator could move it to the "News" section...)

I just sent an email to Pam asking about this. I'm curious how much it will add per day as well as if it would change the cancellation policy. A perk to the room-only reservation is the 7 day cancellation policy over the MYW package policy of 45 days (or something like that). I like to keep my options as open as possible. :D

I'm confused and maybe because I am a DVC member. But everytime we have used the dining plan it was never a requirement that we needed to have park tickets. We do the annual passes and have never showed or been asked anything.

Was the old policy for non DVC members it had to be the whole package (room/parktickes/and dinning)?

Yes, DVC members can purchase the dining plan no matter what tickets they have. Non-DVC members must purchase an entire package (room/tickets.) Well, they used to.

Being a passholder the only way you could book the dining plan was to book a package. That included for passholders that you had to buy at least a one day ticket. This will be so much easier!

interesting......

*runs to the menus and sees if DDP will be less expensive than DDE for my May trip.*

LOL. I did the same thing for my trip next January.
We'll be doing a Table Service place almost every day, no matter if it's under DDP or DDE. If they will give an AP room discount *and* add the DDP, the money situation is looking pretty even either way.

I'm also going in September with a different group of friends, but unless there's Free Dining, they're mostly Counter Service people, so the DDP wouldn't be worth it.

On just a food to dollar standpoint the DDP is winning out but when I am comparing the numbers with what I would normally order I am coming up pretty much dead even with myself but when I factor my kids into the equation DDE will be a little better. If tipping was still included DDP would win hands down.

I did the same thing, MasterYoda. LOL! I did a comparison a few weeks ago for our May trip and it looked like for us using the DDE card would come out better. I'm going to go over it again just to be sure.

I just heard back from Pam/KK that if you added the DDP to your room-only reservation that you *would* be subject to the paid in full/cancellation restrictions 45 days in advance just like a MYW package.

For passholders who didn't know how to do it before, if you booked a MYW package with just a 1-day base ticket per person you could add the DDP as well for each person every night of your stay. That's what we did in December. Then after I got down there I went to Guest Relations and had the cost of the 4 1-day base tickets refunded to me because I purchased 3 passes (hubby already had his from last year). In the end I paid for the passes I wanted and was able to utilize the DDP.

I suspect the large number of passholders working the system in this way are making it worth-while for Disney to just offer the DDP to passholders without all the ticket/pass gymnastics. LOL!

Just did my number crunching again. I still think the way we eat we'll be better off with the DDE. I know I'll do better on my diet if I'm not pigging out worried I'll be leaving behind credits. LOL!

I keep punching the numbers, too and even though we have character meals set up for 7 out of our 10 days, I still think DDE is the better deal for us. I wish DDP worked out to be a value to us--I would love to have our meals all paid for before we leave then I would only have to worry about spending money. I definitely think it pays off if you have more kids than adults...Unfortunately 2 of my kids are considered adults and that makes a huge difference.

Just curious if anyone else got an email on this? I am a passholder too and didn't get this. Of course I didn't get the email about the last set of passholder rates either even though they have my correct email address!

Does anyone know details about things like does the entire party have to have an AP and can we still add an AP rate to the room if we have the dining plan?

This is my first time having an AP so I'm not up on this stuff anyway.

Thank you!
