Park Reservation System

Right. I think that was the poster's point -- that WDW will want to keep the 2pm parkhopping restriction in place for hopping to DHS even if it eliminates it for the other parks, because that will limit the number of people eligible for the 1pm Boarding Group distribution (because only those with a DHS park reservation will be eligible). It's in Disney's best interest to keep the number of eligible people down for Boarding Group distribution, because that means a smaller proportion of eligible guests who stand to be disappointed if/when they can't get a Boarding Group.
The time for hopping doesn’t affect the number of people eligible for a BG.

The BG booking system checks for a DHS park reservation before allowing you to proceed. That’s how it auto selects anyone in your friends and family list who have a DHS reservation for the day.

So there is no reason why the 2pm time needs to remain. Anyone hopping to DHS at whatever time will not be able to get beyond the first step.

You're right, it doesn't.

Was RoTR in the park before the Park Reservation system was implemented, I can't keep track of all that. I feel like it was and you would still be eligible for the 1pm boarding distribution as long as you were in the park, but I honestly don't know. Seems to me that its almost a chicken and egg situation, the only reason you need a park reservation for 1pm is because you currently cant get into the park before 2pm without one. So if the park hop restriction is removed and I show up at Noon, without a park reservation, wouldn't I be eligible for it?

FYI, with respect to the 2pm PH at DHS being tied to RotR Boarding Groups...

I was at WDW a few weeks ago, and the second boarding group was at 1 PM! Not 2.

Also, park hoppers are NOT eligible for the second boarding group.

So this post is mis-informed.
Just to clarify .... you reiterated my point.

Only point was the 2nd Boarding Group happens BEFORE Hopping is allowed....... should have mentioned DHS "ressie lock" for Boarding Groups

But people who enter DHS via park hopper cannot get into ANY boarding group. So groups are only available to people with a valid DHS reservation for the day.
Correct .... currently the time restraint (2:00 p.m.)for Hopping is restricted to after the last Boarding Group (1:00 P.M.) has opened and (within seconds) distributed/depleted

Again, the current 2 P.M. Hopping allows only those with a DHS Park ressie to enter a coveted Boarding Group and eliminates the chance for any other guest(s) to enter a Boarding Group....

This again, ignores the "Park ressie lock"

Keep in mind the 2:00 P.M. Hopping assists the Cast Members with the Boarding Group already being depleted BEFORE the 2 P.M. entry. Can you imagine the "episodes" when a Guest Hops to the Park at 11:30 and at 1:00 P.M. TRIES to enter a Boarding Group? No matter what Neon Signage, what the Cast Member/Guest Services would try to explain some Guests would be less than Magical.....that was part of the thought of not lifting the 2:00 P.M for the Studios only.........

The belief is you have to have the Park Ressie to be eligible for the Boarding Group.

You don't have to be in the Park to snag your Boarding Group ....that changed a while back. Just have to have a Park Reservation and the Magic touch at or about 7:00 A.M. or 1:00 P.M. and this can be accomplished from anywhere, bus boat, hotel room, etc..... If you try to enter a Boarding Group and DON'T have a Park Ressie, you'll get the "don't have park reservation error" message..........

I assume you'd receive that message even if you were in the Park, without the Park Reservation

***edit***1st Boarding Group is 7:00 A.M.....shout out to @Ayla for advising!

The first boarding group is eligible at 7am eastern and is gone in seconds.

No you will not be eligible.

To get a BG currently you MUST have a reservation for DHS that day. Doesn’t matter if hopping goes back to normal.

Before Covid you just had to be in the park at 1pm (originally 2pm). Since the parks re-opened, the pre-requisite is that you need a park reservation to be allowed to try to get a BG at either time.

The additional requirement for the 1pm drop is that you must have gone to the park by then. You do not have to still be there though.

This is my hope too. It’s my hope WDW will still offer “go anytime” APs with no reservations or blackouts like my family enjoyed for over 13 years before the pandemic. My fear is those days are gone for good.

Only time will tell. Disney will (as always) do what (it thinks) is best for Disney no matter what we think.

Examples: Rocket Rods and Harmonious barges....
agree, a lot of times its a spur of the moment thing to drive over to Epcot or DHS and i cannot do that now, i cant plan that far out most of the time. almost everytime we go over spend probably $200, not a big deal in the scheme of things but us AP's add up. i have an AP and most of the time i cant go as its always full and AP's get last priority because we paid already.

I would be really upset if i were an AP holder in the Orlando area, as i imagine there would be many times that I just wanted to go to Epcot at 11am to get some lunch at Via Napoli!

Disney probably would be happy to have tens of thousand of locals descend on the parks to have lunch or dinner...

... as long as none of them got on line for the attractions swelling the wait for people there on their once-in-a-lifetime vacation.

Any indication on when park capacity might increase again. Flight prices are low for when we could go in June but only Epcot available now. Kind of a bummer!
