Park Hopper vs Extra Days??

We are planning a trip in June and we always get the park hopper option. This trip I had someone suggest just adding a couple of extra days to our 6 day trip and not get the park hopper. We don't plan on doing any hopping and if we decide we want to we can just use one of our extra days ticket. That would be a much cheaper option for us if you can do that. I guess my question would be is there any reason that can't be done? Is there something obvious staring me right in the face that I don't see? For our family of five six day passes with Park Hopper is $195 more than eight days without park Hopper and we have two days on our trip that we could visit two parks. Thanks.

But you are not hopping. You are just using another day's ticket. Is my logic flawed. My guess is I'm wrong, but I just don't understand why.

Unless they are 2 separate tickets, it won't work.

A ticket with 8 days admissions has just that - 8 separate days of admission.

If you had a 6 day ticket and a 2 day ticket, you could use the 6 day ticket for your park entrance into your first park of the day, and if you wanted to visit a second park in the same day, you could use a day off of the 2nd ticket - but since they are 2 separate physical tickets, the math usually works against you. If they are on the same ticket, see below - Disney's computers prevent it.

Am I allowed to use two days off of my MYW Base ticket (non-hopping) if I decide I want to go to a second park on the same day as the first?

No you are not. The tickets are sold and the computer system is based on the number of days you have, not the number of park visits. Once you have used a non-park hopping ticket at any park, the computer system will not let you use it at another park on the same day. You are allowed to re-enter the same park you already went into later the same day.

Easiest way to look at it:

The "days" on your Disney ticket are *calendar* days, not individual admissions.

It's not like you get 8 slips of paper and you can use two of them on the same day.
For each calendar day, a Base ticket will get you into a single park on that day. In order to go to a second park that same calendar day the Park Hopper option must be purchased.

Otherwise, when you try to enter that second park with a Base ticket the turnstile will not let you in, and the CM at the gate will refer you to Guest Services to add the Hopper option onto your ticket.

Because buying more days on your ticket is cheaper than buying a park hopper most of the time.

A 7 day base ticket is around $285
A 10 day base ticket is around $310
A 7 day PARK HOPPER is around $343

If you could buy a 10 day ticket for a 7 day trip and just use your "extra" days to park hop, no one in that situation would buy park hoppers, and that would mean less money for Disney. So it ain't gonna happen.

The only way that comes close to happening is if you buy an extra admission for a hard-ticket event, like the Not-So-Scary Party at Halloween You can go to Epcot in the morning, and the extra ticket allows you to enter MK at 4.

Or you can consider a water parks add-on, so you can spend the morning in a water park or Disney Quest and the afternoon and evening at a theme park - this is OK. Sorta-pseudo-park-hopping.

I feel that since im so used to having park hopper options that if i ever didn't get them i'd notice the restriction. I always hop too so hopper is well worth the money to me.

Your logic is correct but unfortunately, Disney is smarter than you in this case. When you receive a 7 day park ticket the ticket is good for 7 DAYS worth of admissions not 7 actual entrances into the park. It has to do with pricing as I see someone has already explained. Once you swipe your ticket in at say MK you cannot go into any other park on that day unless you have purchased the park hopper option. You cannot use a second "day" to get into say Epcot that same afternoon.

In the park hopper vs. extra day debate, if you can afford to stay a few extra days I would definitely go for that over the park hopper. It is VERY easy to do Disney in that amount of time without park hopping. It's one of my favorite parts of planning my vacation when we're not using park hoppers.

Hope that helps!

My family and I went to the WDW last February and had the same question come up: do we buy the park hopper option? I said yes and my wife said no. My wife thought that because we had multi day tickets and two young sons, ages 2 and 4 at the time, we would not use the park hopper option because we would spend all day in just one park. Well I made a command decision and paid for the park hopper option. :drevil:

During the week, and on the very first day no less, we ended up using the park hopper on multiple occassions. At the end of the trip my wife appluaded me for my decision. She has changed her sentiments and now states that it would be silly to have multi-day ticket and not purchase and make use of the park hopper option. And thats my two cents. Good luck and have fun.

We went a few years ago & took my sister & her kids for 4 days. We have Annual passes but for them we didn't get Park Hoppers but we did the Halloween Party so day we went to Animal Kingdom in the morning & then to the Magic Kindgom for the party @ 4 PM. That was when the AK parade was at 3 PM. They loved it.

We've park hopped the last 3 years. This year we opted to price compare and I wish we would have done it earlier. We priced a 6 day park hopper with a 7 night stay which is what we usually do. Then we priced a 9 day ticket NO PARK HOPPER with a 10 night stay it was $100 more. So 2 days more at the parks plus 3 extra nights stay for $100. JUNE 2012 HERE WE COME!!

I would never ever not park hop. I also try to convince anyone who doesn't to reconsider. We hop everyday of our trips.

The best thing to do!!! Our travel agent automatically figures this into our package because she knows it's the way we want to go. Sure helps when you start going through a park and realize that the crowds are beyond what you want to handle that day, so you can easily leave and go to a quieter park, and come back later.

I love the ability to park hop. For us it completely changes the feeling of the trip as we can do MK in the morning hours with our kids and get on most of the rides they want to do, then in the evening go over to EPCOT and enjoy a nice meal and maybe some drinks while walking around WS. If we had to stick to just one park every day, I think I'd get burned out and it wouldn't be as nearly relaxing to me.

DisneyJoe is right. You can't get extra days and use them on the same day. me and the family tried that last year and good thing we did not but them.

See what would you do with out this site. This is where i get all my info from.

Just keep in mind there are certain events like fireworks like at MK that may not be scheduled. June should start seeing later hours and a better schedule so you should be OK. Always check schedules when you arrive to make sure you don't miss out any any special appearance at HS. 8 days should be a good amount of time.

Have a great trip
