Funny I liked the Cove Bar from the beginning, even the less detailed Wolfgang Puck version circa 2001. I remember my first visit to DCA in February of that year and enjoying sushi at the bar while marveling at Paradise Bay and what had been a parking lot just a few years before. There were probably less than 20 people there. The explosive popularity of DCA 2.0 and growth of APs sure did ruin that place. On my last visit there was a 45+ minute wait for table or a spot at the bar, so we ended up skipping it.

Looks like the Lounge will be able to accommodate more day-drinking guests than Cove Bar could ever hope to, but given the demand I'm not sure it will help. Assuming accessibility will be less of an issue the only remaining downside will be the territorial APs lingering around all afternoon, especially on the weekends.

Don't get me wrong it was fine for what it was but it just felt like a every other outdoor bar. There was nothing special about it. You could've plopped it in Garden Walk and no one would've noticed. It just speaks to a lot of what DCA 1.0 was and you can do as minimum as possible and get away with it, But that was the problem with Paradise Pier in general when it opened. Cove bar was a symptom of that. But it definitely a good place if you wanted to sit by the water and a have beer, but nothing about the place itself drew me in. But the last time I was there was probably 2010.

At least with the new place they are really trying create a real environment. I imagine too the place will be swamped, especially at the beginning so I don't see myself there more than once to check it out and say I did it. I don't really drink a lot when I'm at DCA but oddly enough my favorite place to drink is Paradise Garden Grill area. Its relaxing and a nice place to sit with friends. And you don't have to worry about waiting to get a spot just to sit and drink. But its only good if you are a beer drinker since I don't think you can get harder liquor there.

Oh I would have noticed. There is literally nothing to recommend about GW other than Disneyland is within walking distance.

I think I get what you’re saying, but one could pretty much say the same for most dining establishments inside the parks at DLR, especially Disneyland. Relatively few of them are notable for their design or their menus.

I’m old enough to remember Pre-DLR expansion when the place was as dry as bone and the best one could do if you wanted to unwind was jump on the Monorail and hit one of the depressing old bars at the DLH. The Cove Bar, with its views of the Pier and wide veranda where bar patrons were on full display to passers by in a Disney park in Anaheim, was something of a novelty when it opened. Despite it’s low key atmosphere I’m not surprised it took off once people finally discovered it.
