I used to have a model plane that I would "fly" with my arm stuck out of the back seat window while on the freeway. What was my mother thinking?

Lol. That could have been bad.

My parents let me do things that there is no way in hell I would let my son do. Has the world really changed that much? At 6-7 years old I was walking all over my neighborhood to play with neighborhood friends and they would have no idea where i was for hours. I got to know many of the adults in the neighborhood too and would have long conversations with them right on their doorstep.

This one isn't as bad but at 9 years old I did my first and only Disneyland solo trip. My dad had a seminar at the DL hotel and I begged him to let me go to the park while he was there. Took the monorail over to the park. Enjoyed myself. Took the monorail back to the hotel and met him for lunch and repeated the process.

Me too. There were a couple of neighbors that my folks had barely met that I'd go visit, and invite myself in to pester them with the door closed behind me. Fortunately the worst that happened was that a few of the chocolate chip cookies they gave were a little burnt, but can you imagine parents being so relaxed about that today?

Those are the key words. Barely met. Same here. My parents hardly knew these people.

Then there was also the neighborhood bad @$$ that I thought was really cool. I would hang out in his garage for hours while he worked on his Harley among other things. He must have been in his early 20s. My parents and others thought he was an alcoholic and a trouble maker and as I grew up I realized he was. But to me he was the cool guy that would fix my bike all the time.

As kids we would take our bikes down to Westwood village near UCLA and watch movies all day and play at the arcade. This was about five miles through heavy LA traffic.

Another time I was trying to plug something into the TV and shorted it out. I found a box and took it on my bike back to Montgomery Wards and returned the TV without a receipt. I talked them into giving me a new TV.

My parents never allowed me to go anywhere where they didn't know the people, and I had to check in and let them know where I was and where I was going :angelic:

However the first car I remember us having didn't have seat belts and I was leaning against the passenger door one day and the door popped open while we were driving on the highway. I remember starting to fall out and seeing the tires spinning around and around. Luckily my dad grabbed me and pulled me back in. I still get scared thinking about it!!! I was probably about 5 or so.
