News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

For anyone who thinks people here just naturally hate change, you should know that many people would consider 2016 to be DCA's best year. That was only two years ago.

On a completely separate note, the coaster has a fairly high capacity, so unlike many rides these days it can actually handle the demand reasonably well. High wait times are almost always indicative of operational failure and shouldn't be applauded.

Weren't most of the lower APs also blocked out today, meaning only Signature APs allowed...

Yes, it was a Triple AP Blockout today. Tomorrow it's only a single AP blockout and the place will be slammed. Still, Incredicoaster had the longest wait time in the Resort by far, averaging 120 to 180 minutes throughout the afternoon. No other ride was more than 90 minutes long today (Racers).

Right now at DCA park closing time the Incredicoaster is posted at a 90 minute wait. By comparison, Racers is 50 minutes, Mission: BREAKOUT is 45 minutes, Matterhorn is 20 minutes, Big Thunder, Soarin' and Star Tours is 15, Pirates is 10 minutes, Small World is 5 minutes.

Expect AP Pandemonium tomorrow.

Here's a nice side-by-side comparison of the original ride versus the new ride.

That side by side video shows a few things:

1. The removal of the chain fence at the end makes all the difference in the world.
2. California Screamin' ended first which means it was faster and thus better
3. The lights on Incredicoaster are so warm and hostile compared to California Screamin's cool blues and I don't like it
4. What everyone was saying about this coaster being better at night really is true. California Screamin', that is. It's way better at night than the Incredicoaster. During the day, too.

As always thanks for the confirmation. You're truly a gentleman and a scholar.

To be fair they didn't change the physics of the coaster, so it really is the same speed. They slowed the train down for a split second on the brake hill going into the bunny hills to allow better viewing of the Jack-Jacks. The overall speed of the trains is exactly the same.

Believe it or not, back in 1980. Disneyland and Knott's made birthday ads to each other and is very heartwarming.

You don't see Disney or any other rival theme park doing stuff like that anymore.

However, during Disneyland Paris's 20th Anniversary in 2012. The characters from the popular French comic book series Asterix. Bought a menhir (one of Obelix's rocks in the Asterix comics) as a gift to the park. Parc Asterix is also miles away from Disneyland Paris.

I remember the Place Next Door Has Mice ad. lol

The Parc Asterix rubberhead characters are absolutely terrifying.

But what exactly are you 'missing'? Its the exact same stuff that's always been there, just different paint and tacked on a few characters. Now I understand if people aren't happy with the coaster if you don't like the Incredibles story line but everything is the exact same stuff, just updated a bit.

Is it just the look? I don't know but there was really nothing special about PP to me. Slightly better than when it opened but still nothing that pulled me in to see it personally outside of the rides themselves.

I'm missing the thematic consistency that Paradise Pier 2 brought to the table. Feels like we're back in 2001 now.

OK I understand that. But did anyone truly feel they were walking around a pier in the 1920s? Honestly I never felt that at all. The architecture looked a little more traditional but it still felt like a modern pier IMO but that's just me.

I did. Just like I feel I'm in the middle of a small town when I'm on Main Street or that I'm back in the wild west in Frontierland.

To be completely honest, even Paradise Pier 2.0 had quite a few thematic inconsistencies that made it nearly impossible for me to imagine the pier being built between the years of 1890 - 1930. For example, large, muntin and trimless floor to ceiling windows which DID NOT EXIST at the time, stucco that had visible modern EIFs seams, and uncovered pieces of machinery.

Still better than the thematic dumpster fire that is Pixar Pier currently is though! Home of an over-sized happy meal, onion dome roofs, and cowboys.

Funny how everyone said a retheme should be an improvement since the ride had no theming to start with, clearly its a major downgrade. Ride was fun when it was a rollercoaster and not trying to be something else.

I don't know that it made it worse. It just made it really odd. When I rode it before I was riding a "traditional" coaster at a California boardwalk. I got that. I thought it was a good ride. It's not the greatest coaster in the world but it works there.

Now they toss Incredibles characters on it and it still has the "traditional coaster" feel to it and I'm left wondering why these two things are tied together. It's not entertaining. It's really weird.

Then you land on what the deal really is: Disney marketing needs to have "synergy" with their theme parks at minimal cost and an Incredibles 2 (because they're out of ideas) movie hits the theaters so put some plastic figures up and maybe people will: 1) go see the movie and 2) buy merch

That's all it is now. They may as well have made it a Frozen coaster - it would have made the same amount of sense.

You can see the same method being applied with the kiddie carnival balloon ride being made into Inside Out.
