  • Breaking News: Inside Out Attraction Debuting at Pixar Pier in 2019
    JUNE 22, 2018
    By Courtney Potter
The incredible new Pixar Pier officially opens to guests this Saturday, June 23, at Disney California Adventure park—and when it does, guests will go “to infinity and beyond” as they discover its four unique neighborhoods: Incredibles Park (which features the reimagined Incredicoaster); Toy Story Boardwalk (home to fan-fave Toy Story Midway Mania!); Pixar Promenade (full of charming games and the Pixar Pal-A-Roundwheel); and Inside Out Headquarters… which happens to be the scene for today’s big announcement from our pals at Disneyland Resort!
    780w-463h_062218_inside-out-attraction-1.jpg

Located on the western end of Pixar Pier, the colorful Inside Out Headquarters is the future home of Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind; this whimsical family-friendly attraction—inspired by the Disney•Pixar animated hit Inside Out—is set make its big debut in 2019, and it’ll be (as you might imagine) chockablock with emotions! Take a gander at a nifty sneak peek of the attraction, above.
That’s not the only fun to come at Pixar Pier in 2019: Jessie’s Critter Carousel, a reimagined classic boardwalk-style attraction featuring all manner of adorable wilderness critters (inspired by the Woody’s Roundup TV show in Toy Story 2), will offer guests a rootin’, tootin’ good time beginning next year.
There’s so much to see, do, and enjoy at Pixar Pier—including truly delicious food and drink at the new Lamplight Lounge!—so start planning those Disneyland Resort vacations now… and keep your eyes peeled for more candy-colored info as it becomes available.
Is it still going in the old Maliboomer spot? It almost doesn't look like it from this concept art.

Y'know when Doonesbury came back from hiatus, and Mike's first job in advertising was an order to create a cartoon character to convince children that smoking is cool? I wonder if the person who had to write this piece feels that way...

Anyways, I just saw Incredibles 2. Here are my nonspoiler thoughts:

• Beautiful animation. Very stylized.
• Interesting themes and ideas throughout
• Jack Jack was a delight
• Too much going on in this movie and it needed to be a little more focused
• Weak villain with weak motivation
• Third act was pretty weak, mostly as a result of the villain
• The background superheroes are not half as cool as Gazerbeam
• Not enough family kicking butt together
• Bad words don't belong in kids' movies
• I don't want to wait another 14 years for a sequel

Overall I liked it, though. Probably my favorite movie of the year. Not sure yet where it ranks on my Pixar list.

Look literally the only thing big American businesses like Disney understand is increasing their bottom lines, and to that end they will push and push their brand boundaries as far as possible. Disney is doing that right now with its parks, and traditionalist fans have been struggling to embrace the "new normal". Unfortunately for them the strategy has been paying off big for Disney.

The new normal is ty quality. Bringing brands to the parks doesn’t have to mean cheap and terrible overlays. Their have always been IP/ brands at the parks.

I personally think most guests won't notice or care. But I also think that they won't fall in love with the place the way people have been falling in love with DLR for the last several decades. I'm sure Disney will continue to rake in piles of cash until they finally really do kill the golden goose and find themselves with a charmless, cynical product that no longer builds a dedicated fan base. Years and years from now-- certainly not anything the current crop of suits need concern themselves with.

But whatever the majority of visitors think, it's not for me anymore. I am the Lorax, I speak for the pleasant, fantastic, relaxing, imagination-charging, insanely well-done and reasonably-priced escape DLR used to be.

You're throwing away the baby with the bathwater then. The real issue is that the theme park industry is way more competitive than it used to. Parks used to go years without seeing any changes to speak of. Every park out there now needs something new for the summer. This is that thing.

Pixar Pier is an emotional whirlwind.

Disney would crash and burn if they didn't reskin Paradise Pier to look like trash. This is the only thing keeping the company afloat. Upgrading the 2001 aspects of Paradise Pier to match the 2010? No. Upgrading Hollywood Land to get the 1930's/40's/50's look that was planned from 2009? No. A whole new ride? No. Adding animatronics to Grizzly River Run? No. No no no no no. These are stupid ideas that would not bring in locals who love the park nor would they ever keep new guests hooked on Disney.

I agree with everything you said, particularly:

Weak villain with weak motivation--Worst villain ever in my opinion.
The background superheroes are not half as cool as Gazerbeam--Most of them were just awkward and creepy.
Not enough family kicking butt together-Duh, this should have been a no brainer
Bad words don't belong in kids' movies-My ten year old was shocked

...I'm upset with myself for even posting this...

I'll show myself out.

Saw that dude in the park once. Someone in my group recognized him and they chatted for a bit. I wish I could say that he's just acting for the camera, but he's just like this off camera as well.

Not as cool as the time I met Dusty Sage in the park, who I shamelessly recognized from the photo updates and stopped him on the treehouse while photographing one of their weekend updates.

It's solid, but it's just Incredibles 1. Beat for beat, they just switched Elastigirl for Mr. Incredible. So it makes sense that if you liked the first one, you'd like the second.

Having Elastigirl go off on her own like Mr. Incredible did in the first rather than have them all together as a family, working as a team throughout the whole movie was a bad decision imo. Hopefully we do get a sequel before 2025, though. Would be nice.

I didnt like how in the last part, the kids were basically relegated to babysitting.

I agree, not because of the solo act, but because they took no creative liberties with the story. It didn't seem like progression from the first.

An intro scene to explain why supers are illegal. Yearning for the golden days, Elastigirl accepts a private job that seems perfect at first but it ends up that the person who hired Elastigirl is oblivious and was being manipulated by a partner with a sinister plan? Struggling with not being able to use powers, the kids are frustrated the entire film. At the end they all come together and beat the bad guys in an epic battle.

I bet we get one within 5 years. To much money to be made. I just hope that without Lasseter, Pixar can start moving beyond the secret villain trope they love using in their films.
