I have a question concerning Pal Mickey. My sister bought one last year so I'm assuming it works this year? Were any phrases added? Thanks.

Yes, Pal Mickey will work. He's programed full of things you won't even hear for years. So, he'll keep you surprised and interested for years to come! :)

Great, thank you, for a second there I thought maybe we had wasted our money, but since he will work for years to come, that's good to know.

Just make sure you go to one of the shops and have him reset. I love out Pal Mickey, I had my doubts but it was worth all the money. Now if I could find a way to trigger all his sayings at home. The one in Italy is by far the best thing, it had my gf and I laughing for hours and still to this day we can crack each other up with it.

Are you sure about this? Have you actually done this?
References are made to things such as this all the time on this board, yet no one hasd actually done it.
I don't think reseting or reprogramming or anything of the sort exists.

Mickey technically gets reset everytime you enter a park. There is something by the gates that activate Mickey and bring him up to date. That is how he knows that you are leaving a park and entering a new one. The only time you would have to get Mickey reset at a shop is if he is malfunctioning in the park (not triggering, saying things he shouldn't be, talking about a different park, etc.)

If somthing goes a bit off on him you take him to a shop that can reset him. I watched it happen last October when I got mine and he flipped out. I don't think it will do anything with a downloading but it does reset it. When you walk into a park he does not so much reset as he registers where he is.

Pal Mickey ?

I'm glad to see this thread as I have seen many adults with a Pal Mickey and I was wondering how much they cost and if they are worth the investment. What has a Pal Mickey done for anyone that was so great? It seems to me that a Pal Mickey would be hard to hear in a crowd. Educate me, please!

I bought mine in Feb. Used him for my four days in the parks. Then again for one day in March. Took him back this past week and he was mute. I assumed his batteries had just died, but found that odd considering I keep him off while at home. Does he go through batteries this quickly or is there something wrong with mine? I shoulda tried new ones or had him checked out, but didn't get the chance.

Ours did burn two sets of batteries during a week long trip. I'm not sure why.

I was intrigued by the PAL MICKEY concept when I saw him on a Vacation Planning video.

Can anyone tell me how much he costs, and where he can be purchased? Have sales of the toy been good enough that you'd expect it to still be used a few years from now?

i believe he is about $60.00. i am going tomorrow to buy one for the weekend. but from all the stuff i am hearing the pal mickey seems to work great. and i also heard it wirelessly downloads all the new info every time you enter the park. so it is most likely worth the investment.

Try this for purchasing info:
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/special/specialindex?id=PalMickeyPage

I don't think they're as popular as some may have invisioned, but the infrastructure is there, so I'm sure they'll be around for a while. Maybe not expanded like originally planned.

It would be funny if Disney hid transmitters in "the real world." Imagine, you'd be driving down the highway bringing your child to daycare, and her Pal Mickey would say "Whoa, traffic is bad on I-95!"

or

"Hey, you haven't been to Disney World in a while! You can buy tickets at www.disneyworld.com!"

or

"Help! She's choking me!

:D

Confirmed Information

I just called 407-WDISNEY and asked the reservation agent about Pal Mickey.

It costs $60 to purchase of $8 a day for rental. Each time you enter the park Pal Mickey is dowloaded automatically with the days current information. Also, they plan to have Pal Mickey around for at least 10 years or more.

You can rent/purchase at each theme park or at any Disney Property Resort.

I definately have to buy one now. :sohappy:

Have a magical day!

Thanks to all for the purchase info. Now, how about the value add? Does it enhance your in-park experience, and if so, how? Is it more geared toward keeping the kiddies amused/entertained, or is it targeted toward adults (as so much of Disney really is!).

Thanks again.

As far as his popularity goes, when I purchased mine in February I saw him all over the place. It seemed like everyone had one. Then in March, and again last week, I didn't see him quite as much. Could be I only noticed him more in Feb because I had just gotten one myself and was very excited about him and so noticed him with other people more. I dunno.

And he does add to your experience in the park, I think. On one day, I was alone for the day, and he made a great companion. He just kept chatting and giving me very interesting information about the animals and trees and such in Animal Kingdom. As well and a corny (but still kinda amusing) joke every now and then.

And he plays games which will help pass the time if you find yourself stuck in a long queue without much to do. I love mine. I keep him on my shelf at home when not at Disney and he just makes a nice decoration too. :)

I think it sounds neat but I'm hesitant to spend $60 on a talking stuffed thing.

If I rented it for a day and then decided I wanted to buy one, would they use the $8 rental fee towards the cost to purchase it?

DW can be a noisy place sometimes too. Can you even HEAR him talking? Can other people hear him? Is it something you have to shut off whenever you're in a theatre or does it just know to shut off?

And I forgot how big it is. Is it a pain to lug him around all day or is he small enough to hook to a belt or something? We'll already have 2 kids, a stroller, a backpack, and a camera to deal with.
