Pal Mickey

If you rent it for a day, they take a credit card deposit so that if you don't bring him back, they charge the card. If you do rent him and keep him, the $8 is applied to your purchase and only owe $52.

He is about 12" tall

When he has something to say, he buzzes and you have 15 seconds to press his tummy to hear what he said. If you need to repeat it, he will do so saying the phrase a total of 3 times.

It is key to keep him facing forward when going through the parks so he can pick up from the IR transmitters (like a remote control) throughout the parks.

He is quite comical and has ALOT of corny jokes. He is good for queue lines with the kids because he can play a couple games too!

The way to go is to rent him (but make sure they give you a new one - if you want to keep it, why pay $60 for a used toy?) to decide. If you don't want him, return him. But if you have the little ones, almost guaranteed that they will not want to give him back!!

Thanks for the info! I think we will rent him and see how it goes.

So you have to be holding him to know when he's buzzing? I was just going to have him ride on the stroller handle.

He buzzes and giggles when he has something to say. So you might be able to hear him giggle if he's on the stroller handle, but like you said, it can be noisy and you could very easily not notice it. Best bet is to hook him to your belt (or backpack strap like i did) and you can feel him vibrate.

And you don't have to remember to turn him off inside a show or something. He only goes off (unless you manually make him say something) if he picks up a sensor out in the parks. Some rides DO have sensors in the ride itself. I remember mine went off while IN the haunted mansion seance room and said something about the ballroom coming up.

Another time right after getting off of Dinosaur, while crossing the threshold of the building, he said something about being glad we got away from that scary dinosaur. It's freaky how he always seems to know where you are. :lookaroun

He actualy can repeat things 5 times within 15 seconds. I love my Pal Mickey! He was my baby on my trip. lol I was protective of him and was so proud of him. I acutaly sold quite a few to people. lol They'd ask, 'How is that Pal Mickey thing?' and I'd go off on this whole rant about how cool he is. :) Definatly get one, you won't regret it.

Sometimes in the middle of a crowd he's hard to hear, but I've found if you just make him keep reapeating, you'll usualy get what he's saying. Just shove his face (the speaker is behind his face) to your ear and you're fine.

By the way, if you want, I can post some pics tonight of Pal Mickey and maybe even a short movie clip so you can see him in action! Just PM me and let me know! :)

Are you sure about this? It would make far more sense for them to use RF.

Their unidirectional IR transmitters. The receiver is Mickey's nose. If you ever have to reset him for any reason then you'll see them put his nose right next to an HP Palmtop IR sensor to do the job.

It would be cool if they were kinda like Furbys and you could put two or more Pal Mickeys together and watch them carry on a conversation full of WDW info. See whose Pal Mickey is smartest and whatnot.

(I'm bored at work)

Thanks for the details.

I'm really surprised they would do this. Do they tell Pal Mickey owners not to obstruct Mickey's nose?

They did for me. Told me to make sure he is always facing forward and out because his nose is where the sensors are.
