I don't really buy into the "we're only gonna make attractions on franchises" statement that Iger stated. Past history does not indicate that. In my opinion, Monster's Inc isn't a franchise, yet it has attractions on both coasts. A Bug's Life is not a franchise and it has a 3D show in DAK, and a land in DCA. The only one of these attractions that isn't remotely forced is "It's Tough to be a Bug" in DAK. The entire land in DCA is forced, as is the Monster's Inc ride at DCA. I think Monster's Inc Laugh Floor is less forced than others in Tomorrowland, but at the same time, there have been enough complaints over the logic of it to negate it's inclusion in the park.

I fully anticipate the inclusion of Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and Wall-E as some sort of permanent attraction in the near future. Ratatouille could be a restaurant makeover (despite the connotations of having a Rat as a cook) and I'm sure the other two have multiple ideas on the drawing board as well.

I suppose the question is what constitutes a franchise. Is it a matter of opinion or is there a certain dollar figure that makes a movie a franchise. Monster's Inc Made $255 million. Ratatouille made $206 mil, that's more than the original Toy Story (but not Toy Story 2). A Bug's Life made $162 mil. Until it is established what Disney uses as a metric for a franchise, I think it's safe to assume that all of these movies are fair game.

I have a feeling once Pixar Place opens, we might see the removal of Pizza Planet and Al's Toy Barn from the Streets of America. They would probably appear out of place now that there's a centralized Pixar land.

What I like to think about is what could possibly replace PP and ATB. Hopefully a Muppets-themed restaurant and a Nightmare Before Christmas dark ride...:o

We were there today and they have now added the word STUDIOS under the new Pixar sign. I didn't take a pic but they were just finishing up adding the letters when we saw it this afternoon.

Studios? Hmm... now that gets me thinking. Was there any official press release saying that the area was to be named Pixar Place, or is it just a last minute change?

EDIT: After some research, on the disneyworld.com page, it lists TSM's location on Pixar Place, so now I'm wondering if the sign is a mistake or a last minute change.

We'll be visiting DHS on May 9th. I don't think we'll get to ride TSM (no AP, DVC ownership, etc) but if we get the chance, we're not gonna say no! :p
Hopefully, we'll at least get to take in the new themeing of the area.

If WDI have denied a Ratatouille attraction, they could still add a restaurant - how about a character meal where the rats come to meet you at your table! :D

It could be neither, it could just be a sign that says Pixar Studios. There's no reason that they can't have a sign that says Pixar Studios and still call the area Pixar Place.
