Overcoming Nerves

Hey, I have been to Disney many many many times. However, I seem to ride the same attractions. I would love to get on some of the more thrilling rides (in my opinion) such as Splash Mountain, Big Thunder, and Test Track. Each time I wait on the line for these rides I end up chickening out. I was on Splash mountain once and did not like feeling like I was going to fall out during the drop. I think that is what has started making me so nervous about these rides. Could someone offer me some suggestions. Thanks!!

I know how you feel. I have been on all of the thrill rides at Disney at least once. But for some of them, I just dont want to go again. that sickening feeling of being out of control keeps me off them. When I do get cajoleed into riding, I always end up saying it wasnt so bad. My mind just makes it scary.

Thunder isn't all that bad. It's fun but a little slow compared to Space. I haven't gone on Splash yet, but I've been on rides with bigger drops...aka Jurassic Park River Adventure.

Remember, unless you jump out yourself, there is physically no way you will "fall" out of the vehicle. That sensation is just airtime, every law of physics will keep you in your seat.

For any of the "Big Ones" I have gone on (SplM, SM, BTTMR) I just hype myself up for the show I am going to see and that it's safe. I did the same for M:S and would have made it on if it had not been for the claustrophobia.

If you really want to try them, I'd suggest starting small with BTMRR. My boyfriend hates pretty much every ride more intense than Big Thunder. He'll ride Splash once per trip for me, but that's about it
Test Track is pretty much nothing. I mean, it's fun but the "thrilling" part of it is only the very end of the ride and it doesn't last long at all. Imagine riding in a convertible on the highway. If you've never been on it, it's another good place to start.

I am terrified of thrill rides too - but moreso of heights. I can say that BTMR is a really easy one to start with. It doesn't have a big drop, it's really not too scary. And coming from me - that's huge.

Test Track also doesn't bother me. There is no drop involved, so if it's the dropping feeling that you fear, you have no worries there. It's just speed, and isn't really scary either.

Start out with Test Track & BTMR since the falling feeling is what bothers you the most. If you do well on those, you can work your way up to the big drops. :)

I say just try each one at least once!! You may find that you enjoy one or more! And if not, you can say, "I tried that once..."

Basically I just encourage you to Just Jump!

My mom swore we were trying to kill her when we convinced her to do Splash Mountain but she actually likes Test Track. She finds BTMRR a little bumpy but she has done that one (almost broke my arm hugging me so tight, but she did it)

I think Test Track is a good way to start and see how you do then once you see it's not as bad as you think do Big Thunder and end with Splash Mountain.

I dif. think you should start with BTMR because in terms of coasters, and thrill rides, it is very mild. If you enjoy that I would try others. But remember, if you don't feel comfortable with it. And if you enjoy the rides you ride then don't feel pressured to ride the thrill rides. It is what you feel comfortable with.

Other than that, baby steps lead to bigger ones. And we all have to start somewhere.

It's hard to say. Some people just do not like "thrill" rides. To me, nothing in WDW approaches a thrill ride, but for others it is like death.

It also depends on how the ride moves. I love coasters, drops are no problem. However I just rode - for the first time - this weekend a Zipper.

As one website described it "2 minutes of sheer veritical hell" however my 7 y/o who was in the car with me was laughing her fool head off the whole time. She wanted to get right back on.

The rides you have listed are not really that bad - especially Test Track.

What would you say is the "wildest" ride that you do ride at WDW ?

Thanks for all of the replies. I would say the roughest or wildes ride I currently get myself on is Dinosaur or Kali River Rapids both in Animal Kingdom.

There are no rides rougher than Dinosaur! Granted that other rides (BTMRR, EE etc) are faster and sometimes make your stomach feel like it's been left behind but generally they are quite smooth.

IMO BTMRR is a smooth and pretty gentle ride. None of the drops are very big and any 'falling' sensations are pretty small and over quickly. I would suggest getting on BTMRR and if you like / don't mind it, try it again and then move on to other rides (probably space mountain is your next best bet)

Just for info, my wife hates Splash Mountain and other flume rides because of the dropping sensation but loves pretty much every other coaster you can find.

I haven't been on Splash or BTMR, but we do Test Track all the time... it's worse driving on 95 to get to WDW

I think the scary part is you have no control, but to be honest it's not that fast, I drive faster than that on the highway when I go to the mall.
