Over hyped Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

The expectations around this addition are out of this world.
~~~Oh I'm afraid the chatter, WDW preparations/project scope, trip plannings will not be commensurate with expectation when the guests arrive~~~
Disney is offering a "land", not a park, not even half of a park--- one single land. And on this land will be 2 "rides" and a lesser diversion; this is about the same quantity of attraction lineup as a Pandora and Carsland
So what am I saying?
1) the attention to details on this land and fleshed out show sets will likely be Disney's best work yet, by far, too.
2) the two "rides" will be top shelf grade--bonafide super headliners
3) But the hype and expectations will overshadow the product. The scope and scale of the project should have been double, dare I say triple even, to meet demand.
Iger has been an absolute failure for expansion at WDW. I'm just happy we're getting 2 major rides at a park in desperate need.
While it should be more, don't be so cynical. It's going to be great.
I believe the delay in WDW expansion was due to the more desperate need of several other parks getting priority in the non-unlimited budget (DCA 1.0, WDSP, HKDL) and the determination that Disney needed to make a “second try” at debuting in China ASAP (thus SDL). Major WDW expansion was in the plans from practically when Iger took office. (Obviously one could argue that the park expansions should have been scheduled differently so that WDW received hints earlier, but there were very reasonable arguments for putting everything into those other expansions first).
In addition to Potter being evidence that this strategy works, people coming to see SWL will also find another brand-new e-ticket and another land that’s less than a year old in the same park, so these things should further mitigate concerns about SWGE not matching perceptions.
It worked for Potter...
I find your analogy a bit misplaced
1) Star wars has 3 fold the following. The two properties are nowhere equals. Star wars has noticeably more longevity and richer history as well as a much wider fan base.
2) Potter is two lands connected via themed out "E tickish" style attraction(Hog Express)
The hype that surrounded Potter was not even in the same galaxy as the hype of this Star wars land. Universal saw a colassal hype, no doubt, but nowhere near the chatter of a Star Wars.
Disney always has overhyped new things because they want the buzz and anticipation going early and fast. The hype brings in numbers and drives up the anticipation and desire to experience it in mass. For such a huge SW fan base and all that SW brand encompasses...I was also disappointed to learn the "land" was all we were getting, but its better than nothing. Any expansion helps the park. Time will tell how much it does with the smaller scaled area and how its accepted.
1. Hmm... I know this sounds like blasphemy, but... I’m not really sure if there are as many dedicated fans of Star Wars as there are of Potter. The latter has a deep emotional appeal that gets people really absorbed and emotionally invested in a way that Star Wars actually doesn’t seem to do quite as often. And the hype for SWGE actually doesn’t seem as big as it was for Potter (though I suppose I could be misremembering Potter’s hype as bigger than it was). On the other hand, Star Wars might indeed have a broader, multigenerational fan base, even if not as many people feel really emotionally connected - and maybe that’s more important. My hypothesis is that the Star Wars fan base actually seems bigger and more intense because the Star Wars universe is so much bigger - with so many planets and settings and species - and that makes “Star Wars” feel “bigger.” I realize this can be argued forever, and this is just an educated guess on my part. Maybe you’re right. Nevertheless, the very least, I think HP and SW are close enough in public interest to make useful comparisons between SWGE and WWoHP.
2. I was referring to Phase 1 of Potter, which was just Hogsmeade, with one e-ticket.
I'll treat it like Avatar - expect very little out of it. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and figure they'll screw it up somehow. I say this after seeing Harry Potter lands at Universal. I had such high expectations and when I saw it all in person? Meh. Not impressed ay all. So now I expect little. I don't actually think that we'll care much about it since no one else is much of a SW fan
I find Pandora to be better than expected, especially at night. I just love being there. I am not a fan of the movie and thought that would bring my opinion down about the land. It did not. The river ride, not that great, the rest is amazing.
WWoHP, was amazing also. The whole thing just jelled immensely for me.
I think HP is a better land than Pandora, but FoP is an overall better ride. The restaurant in Pandora is better than the ones in HP.
Star Wars, I like (not love) the movies. I still haven't seen the last one. But the feeling I get is this land will be on par with WWoHP or perhaps better. Hopefully the land will live up to all the hype. Only time will tell.
As a huge Star Wars fan and long time Vintage (toys made from 1977-1985) Star Wars collector, I am completely disappointed in what Disney has planned for their Star Wars Land. I’m a George Lucas purist and not a fan of what Disney has done so far with the franchise. I’ve often thought how great a Star Wars theme park be but I’m disappointed that the land is not based on the OT but more so on Disney version of Star Wars. If you told me the land and rides were based on the OT, I would be there day 1 no matter the cost but now I feel I’ll check it out someday I guess. Star Wars has been my favorite thing since being child in the 80’s and it kills me that this land is not for me.
What do you mean by this? It seems pretty classic to me. You have the falcon, the canteen, and a whole lot of other classic elements. Only new star wars things I can imagine being there are maybe locations popping up from time to time on the rides and the characters as meet and greet.
The land is not Tatooine so it’s not the Cantina in Mos Eisley. Everything I’ve read about the big dark ride includes the First Order which makes it themed after Disney Star Wars and not Lucas Star Wars. Sure the Falcon is there but I’m not anticipating the ride to be purely based on the OT. I’m a bigger Star Wars fan than a Disney fan. I don’t like what Disney has done/is doing with the franchise so far therefore I was going to disappointed with the land no matter I guess. I’m a snob when it comes to Star Wars and have always believed that if Lucas is not involved then it’s just glorified fan fiction. I didn’t like Ep VII or VIII and care little for the new characters. Why make up a new planet when Tatooine, Hoth, Endor, Cloud City, Dagobah, etc already exist?
