Outer Rim...Closing

I enjoyed the outer rim as well. It was one of the more pleasant places to sit and have a drink. But they say a smaller establishment will be opening later, and there are plenty of places to get a drink at the Contemporary, so it's no big deal.

I am a little suprised at the closing, as it doesn't seem that it would cost much to run it, but perhaps it generated very little incremental revenue.

Nope, as I said, I understand dissapointment...but just take a look at the first page. There is more than just dissapointment. People are making silly assumptions about the Food and Wine festival, closing bars in hotel, etc. it's a little out of control.

Given the recent closing of PI clubs I think it is not so silly to wonder if WDW is taking a new direction that some of us might not like. I'm not making any assumptions, I'm just wondering.

Are they trying to make it more family friendly and trying to eliminate places that children are not so welcome? I don't think that is such a crazy thought.

Personally, I wish there was a whole resort just for adults, and more restaurants like that. On another board the parents would become livid if that was even suggested -- how dare people tell them their precious babies aren't welcome in every corner of WDW.

Lots of people go there without kids and I'm in favor of an oasis or two to get away from kids. What do you want to bet the new places at PI are all really stroller friendly?

But probably not nearly the number that do. I would wager it is very, very lopsided in favor of families with kids.

Which there are...several, actually.

But the family is Disney's bread and butter. Why wouldn't they?

Disney isn't going to please everyone all the time, they aren't even going to please everyone part of the time. They are going to market to, and have the majority of their actractions, hotels, dining, etc. geared to the vast majority of their guests. WDW is still a family place, as it should be.

Yes, but as you can see, they are dwindling.

It's not a big crisis and I'm not sure why you are arguing about this. I'm just saying what I would like to see and how that may be changing. I think that is what everyone here is saying and that it is a mistake to tell people they are wrong about what they are feeling.

Agree with all points. It is hard to get away from the families sometimes at Disney, and the bars were the one place that children aren't allowed (well, they were allowed in, but they couldn't SIT at the bar).

The point isn't who is more mature, or who's overreacting, because obviously that's what this thread has turned into - this is about the Outer Rim closing. That's all. And if some of us are upset for certain reasons, maybe like they celebrated their first anniversary - and every anniversary since - with a drink at Outer Rim, maybe it was just our favorite bar, whatever, it doensn't MATTER that they opened another bar in the same resort - it's not the same bar.

Am I losing sleep over this? No. Have I turned in my Annual Passes? No. But this mass closing-of-bars that seems to be happening does make me wonder if Disney is even going to have any bars left, not bars in restaurants, but just bars. Am I assuming anything? Nope, just wondering.

It was mostly silly and less assumption.:veryconfu

I hope they put something in that area that allows guest to sit and relax (either with or without a alcoholic beverage). The view of Bay Lake is very nice and should be put to good use. I do have fond memories of sitting in the seats with my husband (and children) while waiting for our Chef Mickey or Concourse Steakhouse ADR.

I did look over my Allears newsletter and did see they are planning on reopening the Outer Rim in a few months. It will just be smaller. With the popularity of Chef Mickey's I can see why they would like to have the area of the Outer rim for the restaurant.

Maybe with the "fifth gate" opening in the future and it being a "boutique" type park, this will be where the more adult themed areas will be.

I never stopped there. It looked like just another sprawling lobby rather than an inviting & relaxing bar. Guess I should have tried it, given the unhappy posts.

:wave:I am sorry for everyones loss, with the outer rim. Hopefully they will add another, or You will find another that can bring joy, or enjoyment from it and over time, will be a new favorite. Just when You find it, do something really fun and make that Your new fond memory of a fun spot at WDW.

Oh I'm sure WDW will continue to be fun even after the passing of the Outer Rim. :) But I'm older and my daughter is grown and I love finding things to do to kind of get away from the pervasive family atmosphere -- once in awhile not all the time. I love dinner at V&A and I love sitting at the Tambu lounge bar and drinking Lapu Lapus. When kids are around it kind of changes things. I wrote a blog entry about it awhile back - http://web.mac.com/wendyd3520/Disney_My_Way/I_♥_These_Links_files/Photo 15.jpg

I used to love California Grill and I still like it but it just seems less elegant and more and more like a Chuck E. Cheese with kids running around all over the place - I just wish somehow it could keep an element of sophistication even with the kids.

Really, it's not that big of a deal I only hope that they remember that there are a few of us that like a more grown up experience and don't do away with all the stuff that can provide that.
