Outer Rim...Closing

Wow, be careful! I don't think there is anything wrong with enjoying a cocktail or 2 or as you put it "get your drink on" (who says that?!)

Sing it, sister!:)

I have never attended an after hours party at the MK (P&P, Halloween, Christmas) or MK evening EMHs without a little buzz on.:ROFLOL: Space Mountain is so much more fun that way!!! The Contemporary is my "Last Stop Before the "no drink zone" of the MK"!!!!

Maybe they just want to get the drunks away from the happy little Chef Mickey goers.

Chef Mickey might seriously be the reason.

I believe they are expanding Chef Mickey to take over some of the former Concourse Steakhouse. The Outer Rim area might also be included in the expansion.

Aaaaahhhh, now that just might be a good reason. They can surely fill more tables at Chef Mickey's.

That was my favorite place for a cocktail though. I'll miss it.

The new bar at The Wave looks cool, so I'm not all that upset with the Outer Rim closing. Yes it had a nice view, but it always seemed a bit out of place to me, sort of just thrown into the crowd. Plus with Chef Mickey expanding, The Wave seems like a great option to grab a drink and relax.

Boy howdy people are antsy lately. :) They closed a lounge, so what? They just build a brand new bar in the resort. Not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things.

All due respect, but I think we all have our sentimental favorites at WDW and it's sad when they go.

For some it's a ride like Mr. Toad, for others it's a show, or a restaurant.

For me it's a bar - so sue me. I always feel bad when people mourn the passing of something at WDW and I ask the same respect for me -- please leave me to my grieving.:p

The article I read says that they are going to use the Outer Rim area for storage.

If this rumor is true, I will miss this place. I used to sit at the bar and watch the baseball playoffs every fall. I also liked it because it was just a bar, not a restuarant bar. I don't like sitting in restuarant bars while people all around me are eating. I feel like I really have to watch my P's and Q's and I don't like drinking with children all around me.

This news is great or horrible depending on your position, but I don't get the mudslinging. :veryconfu Not everyone is going to agree. There's no reason to turn it ugly.

You are right. Although when people get mud slung at them, the typical response is to sling it back. It is the manner of disagreement that is often the issue. So I guess the motto is, Don't sling mud and it won't be slung back. I just get tired of the implication that just because someone wants a place to have a drink, they must be a drunk. Most people can and do drink resopnsibly.

Not to you maybe. It is to others. Outer Rim is a nice place to sit and have a drink. I am disappointed it is going. I should be allowed to say that, right?

You don't have favorite restaurants? If they were to close one of them you wouldn't be disappointed?

Yeah, dissapointed indeed. Would I have a knee-jerk, over the top reaction like many of the people here are having...nope. I think I might be able to put things in a little bit better perspective.

Well I will certainly miss the Outer Rim. Although the last time we were at disney i was preggo to no drinks for me. But we still sat and enjoyed the view while waiting for our Chef Mickey ressies with a cold ginger ale with cherries:slurp:. It was sort of a tradition and I will really miss it

I have to agree with some of the other posters that it is a "sentimental" thing to me. It has nothing to do with other bars being newly opened, nearby etc. I am not a big drinker. I think I had 8 drinks in the entire year last year. However, for whatever reason, when visiting WDW I like to sit at the Outer Rim and enjoy a nice cocktail with friends and family and just relax for a bit at the Contemporary after visiting MK.

Why do posters have to get so nasty and critical when others post that they are sad, upset, etc. when something that they enjoy closes? I don't get it.

I guess we'll have to take your word on that, but just so you know, I can promise you non of us are suicidal over this. Just disappointed.:)

Yeah. Instead of a glass of wine, they will hand you some grapes in a cup. :ROFLOL:

But they will be sure to cut them in half so you don't choke!

I was very disappointed when they discontinued offering picnic-style fried chicken at Aunt Polly's on Tom Sawyer Island.
It was good.

I was too! My family really liked it and it just seemed to "fit" the scene.

Nope, as I said, I understand dissapointment...but just take a look at the first page. There is more than just dissapointment. People are making silly assumptions about the Food and Wine festival, closing bars in hotels, etc. It's a little out of control.
