Posting story on Orlando Wheel because you'll be able to see the Disney Fireworks from it:

From the video, this will be built south of the Orlando Convention Center at the interchange of I-4 and the Bee Line - I'm sorry, the Beach Line Tollway. It will be in the undeveloped area in the center of this Google Map.

Approximate distances:
SeaWorld: <1 mile SE
Universal Florida: 4 miles N
Magic Kingdom: 7 miles W
Epcot: 7 miles SW
Downtown Orlando: 9 miles NE
Kennedy Space Center: 50 miles E

My wife and I watched Wishes from the Peabody 30th+ floor (don't remember exactly) listening to music I synched from my iPod with the initial comet firework. So viewing them from the wheel should be awesome. As well as other views, mostly to the north you well see the Convention Center, and to the south you should get a good view of SeaWorld, but not as good as you would get from their observation tower. Views of launches at KSC would not be that much different as from the ground. At 400 ft altitude, the horizon is 27 miles away, so you would only see another second or so of flight than just watching from the ground. I'd much rather spend the time driving closer (see various 'Where to watch Shuttle launch' threads).

This wheel will be cool, and will be fun to drive by every time I go to work at the park. You'll see it from the top of the big drop at Splash Mountain, but not Tower of Terror (faces wrong way), but it would not impact normal sightlines within the Disney Parks. You will see it from SeaWorld, and possibly from Universal. It just seems a rather odd addition to this part of Orlando. It seems more suited to the Kissimmee Strip of tourist attractions on Rt. 192. But it will for sure alter the skyline of Orlando.

I've been on the London Eye - it was superb!

The location seems a bit odd, but I suppose it is close enough to the convention center to depend on that venue for customers. I think this would have been fantastic in DTD, but I suppose they were trying to cover all the bases.

I don’t see this as a big draw for WDW visitors who fly to Orlando and do not rent a car.

As Mr. Horse would say from Ren & Stimpy...No, sir, I don't like it.

It's a cool idea but it's not leaving me with a warm and fuzzy feeling inside...

For nighttime riders: Would there be any way to have a "synch request" button panel in the cabins, to choose which fireworks music one might want to listen to depending on their view/preference? (Not realistic, but a thought nonetheless.)

While I don't disagree that it is an interesting concept, but quite frankly, there are better things to spend the money on. I just don't know if it will draw the crowds they are hoping for and all we need is one big hurricane to come through and cause serious damage.

Yay! We're finally getting a monument! Took our SimCity builder long enough.

Anyways, sounds awesome and I'll glady be in line to ride it when it's open.
:D
