Orlando man charged with hitting a Disney security guard during fight over COVID-19 mask rule

I wonder if this guy is related to the woman who assaulted the CM at ToT several months back... Maybe Disney should give out masks that say, I'm an idiot...I can't follow rules and Disney had to give me this at the gate...

Could we please stop with the ‘slapping the phone out of his hand’ nonsense. The article in the link and a couple of others mention that Toro struck the guard in the head and at least 3 people witnessed him getting irate and striking the guard. There was no phone slapping and no need for any devil’s advocacy to for any excuses. It is straight forward case battery with no reasonable excuse available. So please stop looking to create discussion points that aren’t there.
Maybe... the cellphone was on his head???

Orange County, where the assaulter lives, requires masks in all public locations, and has so for months. This guest should have already had a mask whenever they are in public, no matter the location.
Agreed 100%. Unfortunately, since the county has chosen not to enforce their own rule, mask compliance in Orange is like 80% on a good day (in my experience at least). Obviously it's higher at business that independently mandate. The county refuses to hold citizens accountable, but is sending task forces out to check for employees in retail businesses wearing masks and fining operators if out of compliance. I think OPD refused to enforce it - they can't even get their officers to wear one....

That's correct. There was a recent shooting at the FL mall in Orlando where a black suspect was running away from the cops at the mall parking lot. The cops fired at the suspect shooting him in the back killing him. Some of the officers were not wearing masks.

Wearing just a bandanna is worse than useless, and Disney clearly has disqualified bandannas and gaiters/balaclavas.

The "rules" say ear loops or ties, but don't specifically rule out behind-the-head elastic straps. This could be a bone of contention at the security gate.

Does anyone have official clarification on elastic straps?

I've seen plenty of people with masks that have elastic straps that go around the head. I don't think there are issues with those. Some CMs have them even.

I want to say this. I don't defend violence at all. But can someone answer me this? Does WDW provide masks to people if they come without to them or bring the wrong ones? What if your mask breaks during the day, can they provide one? For the price of tickets, I think they could afford to proved some of those disposable masks, or, heck even nicer disney themed ones, if they can give you a magic band with your reservation can't they give you a mask?

Disney doesn’t provide them, nor do I believe they should. People need to stop trying to blame Disney for this and take responsibility for themselves and their families. Disney and Orange County have made the rules very, very clear and it is the guests responsibility to comply with those rules.

I didn't blame anyone.
I'm all about mitigation. Providing proper masks would mitigate this. It just seems a simple solution that would separate the frustrated from the people that just want to flaunt rules. Would it have helped in this case, who knows.

The simple solution is for people to take responsibility for themselves when visiting private property and comply with the rules.

Masks are available at a vending machine at the main entrance, and also within gift shops inside the park.

If any of those options are not acceptable the guest has a simple choice to leave.

Yes. When people make a reservation provide a simple mask (made to Disney standards w a Disney logo) for each member of the party named on the reservation. Complimentary magic bands are being phased out, OK, so provide complimentary face masks with the reservations. The regulations, rules, standards and policies for access to the Disney properties are now well known if for any reason a guest can not meet the requirements VIOLENCE IS NOT A SOLUTION. Are Disney face masks available for sale at the approaches to the entrances? Give the absent minded or stressed or exited or confused guests an option.

You are trying to make this Disney’s problem to solve. It is not.

It is the guests responsibility to comply with well published rules or not visit. This attitude of deflecting personal responsibility needs to stop.

Yes those are options, but I don't see the harm in what I was proposing.
Post Edit:
I suppose I have a different mentality and faith that sometimes a family(I am not talking about this family necessary) makes a mistake, they bring the wrong mask and it keeps calling off a kid. It's already a crazy and stressful time for kids. They could easily mitigate this is all. Heck make it be chargeable to a magic band if you are worried about the cost.
