The company might be making money hand over fist but they had make some really dumb decisions the whole Lakee Nona snafu is a beautiful example. Even if they wanted to clean house in imagineering, did they think of the consequences to the finance and merch teams?
and the grociery stores is a valid point in this thread. My DD hates Orlando, really touristy and yes no decent grociery store. The only real game in town is publix. She goes every once and a while to trader joes and whole foods but the traffic is a nightmare.

Really between traffic and crazy rents she has been considering a move to California.

I recently moved from the northeast to the south – Texas area, about a year ago. The one thing I do miss a lot from the north is Wegmans. The large fresh produce section, the endless bakery treats, the decent hot/cold takeout food, meat and seafood section, etc.

Down here, HEB and Kroger reign. Out of the two, I do like HEB a lot. I think their quality is good and they are always stocked and well-run. However, I'll always have that craving for Wegmans, if that makes any sense lol. Their chocolate croissants are no joke..

If they ever expand down here, I think they would give HEB a run for their money. However unlike Wegmans, they aren't trying to expand (they are only in TX domestically), even though they pretty much already dominate the state (with the exception of DFW area).

Geez, why did I contribute the off-topicness

Publix has a monopoly on grocery stores in Florida. Shame, because while they’re fine (and yes, the subs are great), their prices are a bit ridiculous. It’s a shame because there’s very little competition here (I live in Orlando) outside of the big box stores. For a glorious year or so, we had a Lucky’s Market, which was fantastic, especially the butcher. But alas, Publix muscled them right on out.

You are 30 years ahead of the game. Few downsides are poor quality education, food options , even a real quality grocery store , healthcare, wages etc compared to the high stress Northeast in these categories .
Poor education? We have one of the best public university systems in the country! A kid with A’s and B’s and 100 community service hours Evan go to a state school TUITION FREE! It’s insane! Ofc we have Publix but there are countless bodegas which have excellent butchers and bakeries. Healthcare is rapidly expanding. In Tampa it feels like every new office is being occupied by doctors. I mean, if FL is so bad, why is half of NY moving here? Lol!

COL, no state income tax, lower property taxes compared to their previous state, weather etc , have you heard about it? Surely its not for the superior medical care unless you believe that.

partially true.. Wages are the same since I work for an international company and would make the same anyway. My house is much nicer and cheaper here. Much lower property tax, like significantly lower.

As far as grocery stores? I grew up near one of the very first Wegmans stores. Long before they spread throughout the northeast. Nothing comes close to that even though these people love their Publix it's not even comparable..

Many lists have Publix above Wegmans.

Wegmans, Publix, HyVee, HEB, Aidi, Lidl, Fresh Market, and a few others I’ve never even heard of consistently make the top 10 lists though. Ironically I’ve never stepped foot in any of these grocery stores, I need to get out more.
Aldi (the Trader Joe’s parent company) and lidl don’t belong in the same zip code as Trader Joe’s. As evidence by them usually actually not being in the same zip code 🤪

Lucky’s wasn’t pushed out by Publix. They went bust from over expansion. This all came shortly after Kroger divested themselves of their majority holdings in the company.

Yeah…when you start with “we”…your argument loses its “umphh” …no objectivity, cherry picking what’s “good” and “bad”

We all do it. No harm.

Good and bad things everyone. Florida leads that list as much as anyone.
I mean…what is ACTUALLY going on their? Off the rails right now.

Life is complicated…an unending “gray area”

No more Alby’s? Winn Dixie?

The primary competition to Publix - and every other market now - are Wally’s, targe’t and Amazon.

My guess is Walmart put the competitors down, not Publix.

They know EXACTLY what they’re doing there…

Most fans just don’t want to accept what they’re doing there…

I know of one Winn Dixie in the area, and it’s seen better days. Walking through that store is like stepping back into 1997.

There are lots of Aldi’s now, but I didn’t count them as competition for Publix given how much smaller they are (and don’t carry many name brands). Heck, even one of the two Sedano’s (a chain of Spanish grocery stores) in the area closed last year.

If you don’t want Publix, you’re pretty much going to have to go to one of the big box stores (or use Amazon pantry).

I never understood this point- if the Diz was trying to eliminate bloat in WDI, why purchase and build at Lake Nona when you have buildings you already own sitting empty in Celebration? Seems like a waste of money to me-when the point was to save money in the first place? Anyone smart enough with Diz politics able to reason this one out to me?

Or 42 and 2, respectively…

School rankings are highly subjective and almost not objective at all

In fact - Columbia said “don’t count us anymore” just last week.

Schools are deeply political…and of course a money game. The breedings Grounds of bias.

The rankings are flawed as well. Your example and mine

Institutions of higher learning (a term becoming obsolete) are supposed to be a place stimulating to thinking, gaining more knowledge and a beginning for new / improved concepts. Such places are now stagnating and becoming programing locations for stale, antisocial and divisive concepts. Trade schools are evolving to have greater value because something constructive is actually learned.
