Opening WDW with Social Distancing

Running a half empty park is still better then being closed, especially if Universal opens up. Half capacity is still around 50,000 people for MK. That is still a ton of people. When we started going almost 3 decades ago, we went during the slow time and the parks where practically dead. No ride wait time was over 15 minutes and most where walk on. They didn't say "let's close down between Labor day and Thanksgiving because no one is here". If they plan on being open, then most things should be up and running. Because having unhappy guest going on social media telling others to stay away because too many rides are down, is worse then staying closed.
You cannot have 50,000 people with “distance”.

If that’s the goal...then it’s closer to “business as usual”

That may be what they do...just don’t know if it’s realistic.

Just to be clear: “some money” doesn’t work in wdw. It requires a huge amount of traffic and revenue intake to cover the cost of operation... and once they get to that point , then the profits are huge.

10% if the crowd doesn’t mean 10% of the money made...40 doesn’t mean 40...60 doesn’t mean 60.

They need to get to a high number...which means the plan isn’t for a long, slow rollout...which leads us back to almost business as usual.

If that’s the case...open tomorrow. Let it fly.

Yeah, I know how making money works. I am saying that people are afraid and they are skeptical right now about going to places like this. People will need to see that Disney is open and doing what they can to keep everyone safe, but also that it will be worth it to go. You can not do that with only a portion of your rides and attractions open. It will never be "closed one day and open what the crowds were before". They will start with lower crowds, just like after 9/11 but still have things up and running. It would be extremely foolish to be open with only a portion of attractions open. Your "saving" on labor, will end up costing more in the end. I don't think the Disney executives are that foolish. They most likely will be running at a loss in the beginning and I am sure they are aware of that. But that is the nature of business, you do what you need to do in order to get the best result in the end.

There plan will be to only run at “loss” for a very specific maximum time...and it won’t be long.

This is not 9/11...people look to that to provide them “comfort” in some bizarre way...but the variables and challenges are completely different.

From that premise...then in order for this to work those trips would need to be HEAVILY discounted...

Taking bets on that happening.
Not so sure about "HEAVILY discounted", but hopeful about any discounts coming our way. it'd be a fair gesture from Disney, specially if the whole vacation experience is diminished.

I don’t trust the management to have even the slightest clue about how they should “look” right now. There philosophy is very different that the previous 4-5 periods of it.

I’m saying if the offerings are limited or the logistics are clunky and ruin the days...only heavy discounts would allow for Disney to sell excuses to their customers.

Full price is gonna demand full experiences...

And apparently we have people assuming they’ll open and have no waits just to get people in the parks? That doesn’t make sense...that’s how money works.

What do think is a good way WDW can make their money, please their customers and keep a good public face?
Perhaps they charge regular admission, admit there's restricted access, but offer each ticket holder a discounted (or even free) admission to use at a future time?

I don’t have the foggiest of clues...

I do know that contrary to the Dow Jones industrial average...the customers they need are going to be hurting for quite a while.

I think the Bob’s will have to make “uncomrfortable” choices no matter what.

For everyone on here dying to get back and pay whatever price...for whatever they get...

There are multiples not so in love that they check their brains and wallets at the door. The casual middle of the road is what will be difficult to capture and make money off of for awhile.

Much the same in the "outside" world. Folks are so thrilled they don't have to stay at home anymore, not realizing they will be spending their free time standing in line outside the Walmart and favorite restaurants due to "capacity". Perhaps that will give Disney fans a clue of what they will most likely be doing on their next vacay (if they choose the next few months to do so).

In the Parks
No
If the Disney Parks open next month with Social Distancing the experience for the guests is going to be so different and even maddening for many that many should cancel their vacations anyway. I have seen guests waiting in the security check lines to get into the parks and yeah it was hot and they were getting pretty agitated with just that wait. There was no Social Distancing, No mask wearing or anything like that either. I hope Disney really thinks this whole thing over hard before possibly having a disaster on there hands.

Its either social distancing in place or don't open. People are going to have learn to live with social distancing. Its here to stay.

You’ve identified the problem.

I’m just cautioning those that feel wearing a mask in the soul busting heat of Florida in a scenario where they don’t allow free access in and out of the AC will be...

I hear a lot of “get used to it” that sounds like obtuse tough talk from a rather pampered clientele.

It feels like a lot think once they reopen everything social distancing will cease to exist.

Right...so Business as usual...

And if that’s the play...get started.

Let’s see sardines packing streets for 2 hours waiting for a 15 minute projection show...let’s see booked solid $45 breakfast buffets...let’s see that DVC office open up and sling $220 points (that they just put limits on due to lack of inventory for awhile...by the way)

Give the people what they want. Let’s roll.

Time to build a bunker. This is all collective insanity . . . it is the time of divide and conquer (we lost). Kind of funny that there is more going on with declassifying UFOs and very little rational scientific inquiry into what the XXXXX is going on.
If you want to go to a throttled back WDW and face limitations that could be very frustrating it is time to invest in a full AC Astronauts Suit so you can’t contaminant others, they you and you can stay cool in your suit of isolation.
Just add a built in folding chair and install a gaming or video system so you can use your helmet HUD to play games and watch videos. Also MREs and Freeze dried foods in the backpack . . . yum. Perfect, the land of the Bubble People.
Sorry I am tired of being a lemming.

Yes let's get everyone sick I need my Disney Magic
Lemmings be lemmings
Is it real or is it not
If it is real one should act responsibly
If it is not then start asking questions
There is very little of Walt’s Disney in Igertown so waiting for new management might be a very good idea.
Ps If you go to the parks and you have sniffles Don’t go.

But that’s where this is going...

I don’t Support risky behavior at all. But the consumers of Disney parks are going to fail spectacularly - again - by not forcing fundamental changes in procedures and paying TOO MUCH for it...

This is the pattern we have created with the Bobs
Can't wait for everything to be shut down again once cases and deaths spike. All cause money is more important.

Please recall the Bobs reaction at the Shareholders meeting about Epstein. They don’t deserve to be involved with Walt’s legacy.
