Online Check In

Is it worth doing the Online Check In? If you show up early to check in will you get a room faster if you check in before you get there?
Thanks

If you are an experienced Disney traveler and don't need hand-holding at check in, then I find it definitely worth it to do the online check in - everything is ready for you when you get there; just grab the packet, take a quick look at room location, and go.

I used it on my trip last November - DEFINITELY worth it if you have been to WDW before. I got off the ME with no line for Online Check In and had my keys and package within two minutes. My room was also ready at 11am, which may or may not have had something to do with it. I recommend it if you have the opportunity and are comfortable.

I agree with them...it is very convenient and fast. I have used it twice now and will do it for all future visits. You just show your ID and get your stuff and you are on your way. I don't really think it affects getting a room earlier, but I am not sure. The first time I did it, my room was ready (I think it was mid morning). The second time was very early in the morning, so there were not any rooms ready yet. What was great though was that the resort sent me a text message letting me know when I could get into my room!!

As OP had stated if you are familiar with Disney and do not need much direction then Online Check in is the way to go, but do keep in mind that does not mean a room will be ready for you.

My reason for that statement is last Nov. we did online check in and we had arrived at teh time we stated at online which was 12noon and our room was not ready till 3:30, so do not think that cause of doing online check in speeds up the process of getting into a room sooner.

We have three rooms under three different ressies. They are "linked" but we were hoping to get reasonably close together. We're experienced Disney travelers but have never used on line check in. What do you think our chances are of getting rooms close by if we check in on line with linked ressies? Thanks!

Do you have more than 8 guests age 3 or older? Are you registered as a Magical Gathering?

The linking and being a MG will have more influence on room locations than checking in online.

The odds are good, since your reservations are linked, that the room assigner will keep you together.

I'd recommend that you either do all 3 as online checkin or not, don't mix and match.

If you do online checkin, check your room locations before you leave the counter, and have the CM see if they can make any adjustments then. It can be done.

Thanks. I was worried about it being difficult to make changes once we got there if necessary.

Personally, I've never found much benefit to it. If there is no line, the CMs assigned to online Check-in will take guests out of the regular line, so whenever I arrive I'm still waiting (I always seem to arrive when there is no regular line or check-in line, but I always have to wait and am generally checked-in by a CM assigned to the regular line).

However, that said, I'll continue to do online check-in. My luck will be that the one time I don't do it there will be a massively long line in regular check-in!

I found it to be very helpful. We went there for my birthday in Nov and used it. I liked it because I got the rooms that we requested when usually I get there so late that i never get the room that I want.

Before Online Check in, it seemed I always got a CM that was being trained in how to generate the KTTW cards/room keys, and the machine would break, and then it would take forever to make them properly; I also had one instance where they had to run around to a few different stations to be able to properly assemble the folder that they give you. For these 2 items alone, I will ALWAYS do online check in!

We typically do on-line check in just to speed up the process once we do arrive. Our most recent trip in April our room was not ready (we were early), so the CM told us what building we would be in so that we could park near by. She took my cell phone number and once the room was ready I received a text with my room number. The key cards had already been activated as was our dining plan. It made everything REALLY easy!

That's my question as well... If you do online check-in and want to change your room location or something like that, can they try to accommodate you or will you have to move over to the regular check-in line?

On my last trip, we got upgraded for free to a bigger room at The Boardwalk. It was our first anniversary, and was a surprise when we entered the room. I don't ever expect anything like that again, but just in case, I will always check in when I arrive, in person. Does anyone know if that can happen when checking in online? I always thought it was at the discretion of the CM who checked you in.

I've always had quick check-ins as well. :)

We did online check in when we went in September and I thought that the process was much quicker then waiting in the regular line... I made my requests prior to arrival and they were met! I plan on using the system again when we check to to AKL in Dec!!!

I agree with everyone else here. On line check in was very convenient. Our room wasn't ready yet last time either, but they just called us on the cell phone when it was. We just avoided the line, picked up our packet, and were ready to relax by the pool until the room was ready.
