Kali River Rapids is demolished, transformed into a true exhilirating and adventurous rapids ride based around Baloo throwing a party in King Louie's palace, though we need to get there first, travelling through the jungle river in "wicker" tubs, passing through the wolf pack territory, under Kaa's dense trees, interrupt Colonel Hathi and his elephants, and have a close encounter/escape with Shere Khan, before a splash down into King Louie's palace where Baloo, Mowgli, Bagheera, and the monkeys are throwing a swinging party!

A combination log flume and dark ride a la Splash Mountain, this new addition to Disney's Animal Kingdom takes guests on a trek through the jungles of India, where Bagheera retells the story of a man-cub raised by wolves - culminating in a flame-filled finale where guests come face-to-face with the human-hating Shere Khan and hurtling down a seven-story drop!

Do not despair, @Brer Panther, together, the three of us (and anyone else) can have similar ideas -- and share the gold medal!!

Preemptively I haven't read any other submissions and I don't expect reviews on anything but the one due tonight, but as a personal point I didn't want to skip any this season.

Round Four: DuckTales

ducktales-disney-xd-2017.jpeg

Let’s face it: Disney’s television shows are sorely lacking any representation at the parks. It’s especially shocking for one series, in particular: DuckTales. Inspired by the old Carl Barks and Don Rosa comics about classic Disney character Scrooge McDuck, the 1987 animated series became a major favorite and a flagship example of the Disney afternoon. It’s so popular that it even got a 2017 reboot series that has been just as strong with viewers.

So, let’s fix this, shall we? Let’s take a trip over to Toontown at Tokyo Disneyland and give this show some love.

-Prompt-
Pitch a method of implementing DuckTales (either the 1987 series or 2017 series) at Toontown in Tokyo Disneyland. It can be an attraction, a restaurant, whatever you wish.

-Rules-
Use only a single sentence to describe your idea. You may also use one image if you wish. The deadline is Monday, December 21st, at 11:59:59 PM EST.

-Tips-
KISS – Keep is simple, silly! With only one sentence, you can’t get too detailed. Think of this as an elevator pitch.

-Judging Criteria-
Is it creative?
Is it realistic?
Does it fit visually/thematically?

Scrooge's Scavenger Hunt: Journey through Toontown in an adventure to defeat Magica De Spell, Ma Beagle, and Flintheart Glomgold with the help of Webby, Huey, Dewey, Louie and Webby as instructed by Scrooge in a playtype mix of Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom and Pirates Adventure in Magic Kingdom.

Round Five: Gravity Falls

Speaking of television, Disney has gained a whole batch of incredible original cartoons over the years. The teen spy adventures of Kim Possible, the imaginative laughs of Phineas and Ferb, the serious drama of Gargoyles. One in particular that stands out is Gravity Falls. With its mix of heart, great laughs, and a story that wasn’t afraid to get a bit creepy, it’s no wonder that the series earned a devoted fanbase.

Considering the show’s woodsy locale, Grizzly Peak at Disney California Adventure seems like a natural place for Grunkle Stan to set up shop.

Round Six: The Jungle Book

Plenty of Disney classics have gotten some theme park representation. Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty has been the inspiration for whole castles, and Peter Pan has a dark ride that has been a staple for generations. However, there is one classic for people that has gone a bit forgotten at the parks: The Jungle Book. People still remember that classic story and its iconic music, so let’s find it a place at the parks.

Specifically, let’s bring this to Asia at Disney's Animal Kingdom. If there was ever a park to feature this movie, then this is it.

-Prompt-
Pitch a method of implementing The Jungle Book (the 1967 film) at Asia in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It can be an attraction, a restaurant, whatever you wish.

-Rules-
Use only a single sentence to describe your idea. You may also use one image if you wish. The deadline is Friday, December 25th, at 11:59:59 PM EST.

Round Six Critiques:

@DisneyManOne – The Jungle Book Adventure
I wouldn’t have thought of a rail-suspended dark ride for The Jungle Book, but it is an interesting idea. Almost feels like you’re swinging around the jungle through these scenes. Plus, dark rides aren’t all that present at Animal Kingdom, so it would stand out even more.

@b-wolf95 – Temple of the Red Flower
Interesting idea here. King Louie’s temple home is certainly a classic location from the film, so using it as an immersive theatre show is nice. The more striking element to me is using it as a place for seasonal shows tied to Hindu holidays. It’s a nice way to showcase a culture that guests might not know, and would fit within the atmosphere of Animal Kingdom.

@Ludpat Mike – Mowgli and the Jungle Rhythm
This is another show that makes good advantage of the Indian setting. Fusing together Cirque du Soleil-style acrobatics and puppetry with Bollywood music and atmosphere could make a show that might make for a solid successor to something like Festival of the Lion King.

@Evilgidgit – Baloo’s River Boogie
A water ride would be a good fit for The Jungle Book, and this river rapids ride sounds like a fun approach for it. It seems more like an atmospheric approach, letting guests see these characters and familiar sights within doing a straight “book report” retelling. It’s a neat, accessible approach.

@Brer Panther – Journey Into the Jungle Book
A log flume is another solid choice of water ride for telling the story of the Jungle Book. This is also an occasion where a “book report” approach can still work well, with Bagheera as our narrator while we go down river and follow along with Mowgli. Plus, having that drop in the showdown with Shere Khan is a great idea.

@TwilightZone – The Jungle Book Musical
A stage show using puppetry is a solid route to go with The Jungle Book, especially considering how iconic that music is. Plus, it sounds like this is something made for some audience participation, which would be a pleasant element for the younger crowd in this park. Neat idea.

@TheSquirrel – Bear Necessities
A dance party with Baloo could be a fun experience for guests. Short, sweet, and to the point.

@Solaris Knight – Bear Necessities Inn
Indian cuisine can be such a standout, so a restaurant that gives a spotlight for it would make for a nice addition. The façade of Louis’ s temple would make for a nice visual as guests journey in and discover the fine food that awaits. It would also be neat if the menu also featured some fruit-related treats, considering the song in the restaurant’s name.

@NateD1226 – Jungle Mayhem
Now, there are a fair number of walkthrough attractions at Animal Kingdom, which makes sense considering their use for showcasing the animals. I like the diversified approach here that helps it to stand out from the others. The mixture of play areas and meet and greets along with the nature centers helps offer a more distinct sensibility to stand out from the pack.

@pix – Man’s Red Fire Grill
This may be a smaller approach to incorporating The Jungle Book, but it’s still a nice one. Hard to go wrong with some nice grilled kebabs, and this would make for a fitting theme from King Louie.

Round Six Awards:

Ps5WGu1.png

Honorable Mention: @Solaris Knight – Bear Necessities Inn
Honorable mention is a place for striking pitches that don’t quite make the main prompt, and this restaurant would serve as a nice spot for some Indian cuisine in the Asia section of the park.

L30Y5yp.png

Bronze Medal (1 Point): @NateD1226 – Jungle Mayhem
Though there are plenty of walkthroughs around Animal Kingdom, this offers a more playful atmosphere which stands out from the others that solely showcase the wonder of nature.

zihTg3C.png

Silver Medal (1 Point): @Ludpat Mike – Mowgli and the Jungle Rhythm
A fusion of Cirque du Soleil and Bollywood sensibilities has the potential to create a really striking combination in a park show, especially if they use that classic music from the movie well.

DrRz15D.png

Gold Medal (2 Points): @Evilgidgit – Baloo’s River Boogie and @Brer Panther – Journey Into the Jungle Book
Yes, that’s right! We’ve got a tie. Water rides are a perfect attraction type for The Jungle Book and both pitches hit some similar notes, but with distinct styles. One is a river rapids ride that takes a more atmospheric approach to showcasing characters from the film, while the other is a log flume that uses its more controlled nature to ride through the events of the films. I couldn’t settle on which one to pick, so I’ll give it to both.

Round Seven: Treasure Planet

Treasure_Planet_poster.jpg

The Post-Renaissance Era of Disney animation was…well, let’s be fair, it was a mixed bag. There were some definite lows, but there were also some inspired creations. We got the irreverent style of The Emperor’s New Groove, along with the retro sci-fi action of Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Standing out as a unique gem among them, though, is Treasure Planet. Who would have thought to really lean into that classical pirate imagery and mesh it with far-out sci-fi visuals, right down to spaceships that sail among the stars with solar sails?

With this mixture of “old and new” in a sci-fi setting, Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris seems like the place to let this overlooked movie shine.

-Prompt-
Pitch a method of implementing Treasure Planet at Discoveryland in Disneyland Paris. It can be an attraction, a restaurant, whatever you wish.

Use only a single sentence to describe your idea. You may also use one image if you wish. The deadline is Sunday, December 27th, at 11:59:59 PM EST.

A New Treasure Planet

20180219122033_1.jpg
Jim Hawkins needs your help because he has found a map to a treasure on a planet far away which might change his life (and yours), so of course he wants to get it: in a screen based dark ride/ indoor family rollercoaster with robocoaster small "longboat" vehicles you'll follow the adventure-seeker (on his Alponian solar cruiser), Morph and B.E.N. soaring through space, among planets and asteroids, but you'll need to be careful as our friends are not the only ones aware of the existence of the treasure - and this only means troubles...

Oh, jeez, this is going to be another hard one 'cause I haven't seen Treasure Planet. I think I know enough about the film to go off of, though...

Voyage to Treasure Planet
1608990533078.png
A suspended dark ride taking guests through the story of the film - sort of a cross between Peter Pan's Flight and Pirates of the Caribbean, with lots of neat special effects and advanced audio-animatronics to go around, including a "Living Character" animatronic of B.E.N. who interacts with the riders a la Roz in Disneyland's Monsters Inc. ride.
