OK, you win... it's perfect and understood by everyone. To begin with I stated that the DL was a great ride, I was just trying to point out that, like WDW, it has some flaws in that only a few would understand. Your comment about boot scrapers is relevant. Until I looked up what the purpose of the bayou in the ride was, I had no idea. I have, however, heard of boot scrapers and/or boot jacks. They were common items in human past. Only a few people knew anything about pirates. Unless you know something about the history of pirates and how that relates to New Orleans it isn't at all a part of the story. In order to tell a story, one has to know what they are being told via the story. It's even vague where it is and is only assumed because it's in the New Orleans area of DL.Again, why do the details have to be understood and recognized to be relevant? There is a boot scraper around the facade of DL's haunted mansion to create the Southern plantation feel. California homes don't have boot scrapers, so I would assume most Californians don't know about boot scrapers on the porches of old Southern plantations. Should the boot scraper be removed since most Californians don't know about them?
The story does come through and everything is complete. Things like the bayou and the caves are all part of the overall storyline of DL's version of Pirates. It's a story. This very storyline does not exist for MK's version, which is probably why we're going back and forth.
The DL ride is longer because that part is in it. It is detailed in it's way as is WDW by use of the old fort that makes up the queue area. It is even possible to say that WDW is more detailed due to the travel though the fort. In DL you have a very detailed bayou area that consist mostly of water and a few props. It's is good and enhances the ride, but, it really doesn't take away from WDW. I like them both, but, I don't see where one has the edge over the other. Just a slightly different story.
