Today they closed the ride at 10 pm instead of 11 with the rest of the park. A cast member told me it was scheduled Maitenence. Not sure if its related to the one day closing on the 17th but who knows.

Apparently according to some folks the attraction needs 12-18.

Months.
I did say some of the things I noticed. Obviously one day isn't enough for everything. But maybe they could fix the Blackbeard projection and the flash for the skeleton pirate in that time.

Yea replacing light bulbs would probably be a good idea.. Maybe fix some small affects and mechanisms that might be acting up?

I do think the Disneyland version is a bit better but honestly, apart from a few added scenes and drops it's not all that different IMO. Everyone talks about how great it is but they're similar enough in my book. It comes out a tad ahead but it's not some spectacular version. I'd *prefer* the Disneyland version but I don't think there's anything wrong with WDW's (apart from things not working, the boats taking on water, etc.). Gimme the Disneyland Paris exterior, MK's interior and DL's added scenes/drops (which are only there because they needed to be) and we'd have a spectacular version. If only.

It can be argued anything is the same when you remove what makes one thing better than the other. "Peter Pan is the same at DL and MK when you take away the added effects and upgrades over the years," "EE is the same as when it opened if you ignore the broken Yeti," you get the idea. Those added scenes and drops are exactly what makes Disneylands version of Pirates better. Not to mention it's nearly twice as long as ours. Doesn't mean Magic Kindoms version is terrible, just bad by comparison. This isn't an attack or anything btw.

Not really what I was trying to say but I get your point. Personally I like ours better. It's probably nostalgia and the fact that I haven't ridden Disneyland's in several years. Just my feelings on it. And while I'd like some upgrades I find our Peter Pan better too ;)

The drops and added scenes are nice but eh. LOL

Wouldn't Disneyland's version be more nostalgic than WDW's? Or are you referring to more of a personal connection with the ride? .-.

I have more of a connection to WDW's. I live in Florida. Have gone to WDW forever. I just don't think Disneyland's is as spectacular as everyone says it is, that's all. I do love Disneyland, and there's something really special about it, you feel it when you're there, but I didn't come away from their Pirates thinking it was this amazing experience and how awful WDW's version is in comparison (though I'm certain it's kept in much better shape). That's all. It's just my own personal opinion, lol. I'm not trying to "knock" Disneyland and their Pirates at all. I feel like I've personally attacked folks by saying I'm not seeing the big deal made over their version.

Alrighty! I got you! I actually feel the same way, but for a different attraction. That'd be Space Mountain. To each their own reasons!

I can imagine someone going to DL's version for ages, then coming to WDW for the first time and riding it...saying "why does it start in the middle?" or something like that

I've never experienced Disneyland's version in person, but I had a good taste of it when watching Disney's Wonderful World of Color reruns as a child. One episode covered the making of and grand opening of POTC in Disneyland, they actually had a professionally recorded full ridethrough of the attraction that showed all the scenes. Having already visited WDW and ridden that version, I immediately knew we were missing out on a lot and felt very shortchanged. Even moreso when I realized later in life that WDW's was a hastily built replacement for the canceled Western River Expedition (I like a pirate theme more than western admittedly, but the scale and originality of WRE was something to behold). All WDW's has going for it over Disneyland's is the queue. I like well designed queues very much, but they are never a suitable replacement for actual ride scenes. I'd prefer a lesser queue for a better ride experience. Sadly though some overly budgeted queues are beginning to turn out better than the actual ride itself. Mermaid is a good example of this, awesome queue and mediocre to poor ride. Even Gringotts to some extent has this issue (though the ride at least is far better than Mermaid).

I did however have the opportunity to visit Disneyland Paris twice as a child in the mid 90's (thankfully prior to the maintenance going to hell). Their Pirates to me is the best of them all. It takes the best elements from all the other versions and enhances them even further, and I believe it's still happily devoid of Jack Sparrow as well. It has the extra scenes from Disneyland's version, some substantial plussing to the existing scenes (there are additional new figures including an impressive pair of swordfighter AA's), and in my opinion the show scenes are in a better order of events (the prison scene is near the beginning and the caves are at the end). And to top that off it has an awesome facade and lead up to the ride itself (with a very cool boat out front along with a skull shaped rock) as well as a queue even better than WDW's. In terms of movie lingo, if Disneyland's is the original theatrical version and WDW's is the edited for TV cliffnotes version (perhaps in the vein of Star Wars Special Editions with the Jack Sparrow related stuff), then Paris i'd say is a lovingly crafted "Ultimate Extended Cut".
