Another, just for grins argument. I just priced my vacation -- the one that costs $1600 for tix/food/room at WDW as a DL vacation staying at PP. The price is $2400. That only includes 6, not 10 days of dining. That's also only has an 8 day hopper, not a 10 day. Plus that's staying at the Candy Cane Inn. That's about as close to a WDW value you can get at DL. Adding 2 day hoppers would be another $350. Another 4 days of dining would be $400. So that comes out to around $3100+ or about double for the same trip to DL. This would also include lesser accomidations. Half the parks. And all the SMOG. So, for half the price, give me WDW. I can afford the extra of the new tix!

Yet filling rooms isn't seen as a problem -- hotels all want more upscale consumers who take advantage of extras.

This line was part of a travel related article on another website written about a demographic that would potentially have a good amount of disposable income. I think it may sum up this whole debate.

Profit is not made so much on getting you through the door, gate, or into the theatre seat. It is made on the extras. Merchandise, Food, Drinks, Tours. These are all high profit items. Agood example is when I workrd for a major mail order computer manufactuer. They were as concerned about the customer buying the computer as they were the service contract or the peripherals. That is where the real money was to be made.

A company like DIsney would never come out and say they want more people to come through the gates with high amounts of Disposable income. THat would send the wrong message. They still want people who don't have that but they are willing to wait a couple of years for them to come back after saving for the vacation. The people they want and need now are the ones who have bucket loads of cash to dump on their doorstep indiscriminately.

and the $200 s/h that cost them $18.

"A relatively small percentage of people who go to Walt Disney World buy a single-day ticket," Walt Disney Co. President Robert Iger said in a conference call with investors Wednesday morning. "We're really trying to guide behavior into a more multiday-ticket approach, a multiday stay. . . . We're trying to extend length of stay. We're trying to attract more people to stay longer."

I just want to ask you, how many children do you have? See, I have two, adult children.. who's costs I have covered at WDW as they grew up.. and I or we, my wife and I could go to WDW cheaper just as a couple.. BUT THAT'S NOT MY FAMILY.. my family includes my two kids..
I have 2 kids. If my children were adults, I would suggest they pay their way if it was such a burden on my wallet.

so if you have been jumping up and down and defending WDW and have been going just by your self or just the two of you.. wait until you have children.. and I don't mean just as an infant.. although infants are expensive.. wait until you add child care in your life.. so you and your wife can go to work,. or have a second child..
Or your wife stay's home to take care of the children, you work 2 jobs and your household income is cut more than in half. Because that's the boat I'm in. Yet my signature lists my visits. Notice how some years I stayed offsite? That's because I couldn't afford to stay on site those times. If it becomes too expensive. I simply won't go because I can no longer afford that "luxury". I do personally without a lot so that I can take my kids to Disney. I make sacrifices so I can take them. Am I complaining about another rise in price? No, I'll work a little extra or spread the next trip out more. Disney does what they do, I do what I can do... I'm a big boy, I can make my own decisions, like not go to Disney because they raised a 1 day ticket price.

See right now, if you baby is just on the way.. YOU HAVE NO IDEA how much just ONE CHILD makes a financial difference in your life.. NOT ONE BIT..

But come and make all these statements 6 months after you kid is born and lets see if you are singing the same tune..
I'm singing, I'm singing.

Trust me, you really don't know it all yet..

But you are going to learn the value of a deal.. and cutting corners.. and cutting back.. and its going to happen IN ONE INSTANT..

and I am telling you that this is a blessing .. but right now.. you haven't walked 6 inches in my shoes.. and its going to change..
Well I'm really glad your here to let us all know how it is. For starters, you have no idea what size shoes I wear. And I take offense to you coming in here and lecturing us "Disney Lovers" on life.

Your boasting as if life and Disney owe you something. Here's my lesson to you: THEY DON'T!

If Disney want's to charge $100, it's their optoion to do so. And you have the option to no longer go. I'm not excited that Disney raised a price. That's ridiculous. But I respect the fact that Disney has the right and owe's nobody an explanation. They owe us nothing!

I don't know if your post was aimed at an individual or not but you've really touched a nerve with this one...
