Cedar Point had 3.7 million visitors last year

Disney's least popular park California Adventure had 9.8 million visitors

Magic Kingdom had almost 21 million visitors

I don't think I need to say anything else in regards to popularity.

Don't go to Disney if you want rollercoasters, just like you don't go to a theater for a Pixar movie expecting jump scares.
Location, Location, Location.

California Adventure is just south of Los Angeles, California. Magic Kingdom is in Orlando, Florida.

Cedar Point is in Sandusky, Ohio.

Its going to go on longer unless people get their act together. People are going to flip when they realize Christmas isn’t happening. You can forget Halloween. Target just cancelled Black Friday. The writing is on the wall and things are not getting better because this is something you simply cannot ignore and it will go away. It won’t fix itself.

At this point, companies are trying to mitigate their losses. As @pheneix is saying, it’s all about survival right now.
Christmas isn’t happening? What a silly thing to say! Even if you base your Christmas experience on things like Black Friday there will surely be all the same specials online . I haven’t had to shop in person on that day for years.

Pandemic which may last many more months +
massive economic recession (depression?) +
permanent change to air travel (vastly reduced business travel which may make multiple airlines disappear forever) +
potential disappearance of movie theatergoing experience
=
a confluence of factors I’m not sure TWDC can fully recover from in any normal sense.

Target only cancelled opening on Turkey Day. Not Black Friday.

What’s interesting is that the parks have felt much more crowded over the past few weeks. UOR included. So much so that it’s borderline uncomfortable amidst a pandemic.

Last Friday our party of 3 at around noon were the only spectators for Grinch and Friends street show in Seus Landing at Islands of Adventure Universal.

There should have been 75 to 100 people watching in a typical July performance.

I effectively walked straight on Hagrid(every and all time slots were available for choosing)

As for Disney and Universal the place was desolate! I have never......not even during a day before a major hurricane scare where guests leave the area in mass exodus, NEVER seen such light attendance.

What's this talk about parks feeling crowded?????

I've been going mostly weekends due to working Mon-Fri. I can't really speak to an average Friday afternoon but weekends have felt busier over the past few weeks.

Cedar Point due to its location in northern Ohio is open May-Oct, with only weekend operations Sept-Oct. So let’s just say that roughly CP is open 1/3rd of the year. If CP was open year round like DCA with their daily attendance unchanged would be 11.1 million (3.7x3.)

Don’t knock America’s Roller Coast it is one of the few regional parks in the country that actually draws nationwide visitors.

I saw an analyst suggest spending to be down 50% in Q4...

From that perspective...Christmas may not be happening 🤪

Exactly. The contention it “feels like normal” is some kind of deranged fantasy.
Magic kingdom is in Orlando but Orlando is what it is because of the Magic Kingdom
Orlando was nothing without Disney and never would have been.

It’s not a “nice spot” as far as Florida goes...higher humidity and lack of coastline/water sports.

Nationwide?

I'm sure hard core coaster enthusiasts(a relatively extremely small number) as far away as San Diego make pilgrimages there for some kind of "right of passage" but to characterize the place as a national draw just ain't right......folk however will travel nationwide for a "Flight of Passage"

Yeah...but that kinda needs to be moved on from.

I won’t forget the hoaxing though...no excuses.

I'll get a few more weeks play out of it. I've been known to be less graceful to the pompous. But, you are right, it is on its last legs.

Yeah, I've got a list of the ones guilty on the last one. That one will likely be etched in stone....

Maybe, just maybe, Disney will start listening to their customers complaints and expectations. For me, the past 10 years I've seen: park ticket prices rising for too fast, resort prices rising at unreal rates, resort parking fees, parks being shut down at night for upcharge events, fastpass+, having to reserve a meal 6 months in advance, demise of TGMR, and many more. In spite of all this, I had a trip booked for May of this year which I cancelled even before Disney announced the closure. I still have an itch to go to Disney, but I'm going to stay away for now, and yes, the mask requirements are a big deal especially in the heat.

I agree that Disney needs a reboot. The customers need to see some value again in their vacations. These need to be permanent changes and not just temporary discounts. Disney has been nickel and diming their customers for far too long!
