Ok,when does it finally hit you when you realise " were there at last " Is it when you get to your resort? Or when you see something that brings back memories ? For me it's when i arrive at my resort,it's like coming home to the place you love.My DW loves to see the castle from end of main st USA.She just stands there for a few moments to take it all in.Your thoughts please.:) This has probably been discussed many times in these threads but with so many of us going in the next few months, just want to hear your answers.

Usually it is the tram at MCO... although this year we are flying to Sanford.... so I am not sure what will make me think I am finally there, not even sure which entrance we will go in to be honest! I guess i'll find out!

Seeing the Monorail for this first time. When we finally get on property my eyes immediately go to the tracks waiting for the first Monorail of the trip to go by.

We drive so for me it is a gradual build-up:
1. getting on Route 95 Southbound in Fredericksburg VA
2. Now, we're past Richmond on the 295 - smiling
3. Oh, look, welcome to North Carolina grinning
4. The South of the Border signs - love the mileage countdown
5. Spanish Moss on the trees in SC - reminds me of bootcamp in the Army days
6. Oh, there is the turn off to Parris Island - we're almost to GA
7. Up and over the bridge -- there are the first palm trees and the GA welcome center
8. FL welcome center
9. Yeah, Jacksonville is behind us -- how far to Daytona
10. I-4 :) Happy feet, should watch the speedometer a little closer!
11. There is the exit, "Welcome to Walt Disney World" and the land of purple & orange road signs
A Big Sigh, all is well with the world again!!!!

In the Parks
No
seeing the castle for the first time each trip, even if its the second day and we already visited another park. then I feel like I'm there. Its the same feeling I got when we visited DL and DCA earlier in June. Our first afternoon and evening we spent in DCA because we arrived mid afternoon (wanted to save the walk up MS USA for our first full day) anyway, it took until we saw WOC that first night to even feel like Disney. That said, I really need to be in MK and see the castle before I know im there!!

For me, it is like most people, it comes in stages. First is waking up super early, and knowing in just a few hours I'll be in the greatest place in the world. Then arriving at Lambert airport in stl, waiting patiently and getting excited about the upcoming flight. Once in the air, trying to catch a few zzz's because a week of greatness is about to happen. Then landing in Orlando and catching the DME buses and watching the video. Then, the greatest of them all is hoping off of the bus at the Poly and breathing in that Poly air. Such a fantastic day, and its only about 9am.

Agreed in the waves of excitement. For me it starts when I pull out of the parking lot at work for the last time before the trip (that is one VERY happy ride home). Then there's the excitement of waiting in the lounge to board the plane. The real excitement kicks in when we finally land in Orlando. The monorail ride from the gate to the main terminal. Seeing the Magical Express desk...Watching the Magical Express Movie...Passing under the Disney World sign...Checking in at the resort. There isn't really any one thing that makes me say "I'm here", it's more a combination of everything I just mentioned.

Great thread! For me, I'd say the 'Disney excitement' feeling comes in waves. I'm not a great flyer, and the flight from London is as close to hell as I can imagine, which makes the final destination seem all the more wonderful. The first round of uncontainable excitement comes when we're flying over Florida and I see the pools and palm trees (I'm always looking out for the castle and the tree of life, but I can never quite catch them!). Next when we finally drive through the Walt Disney World gate, and catch glimpses of the Water Tower, Tower of Terror, Epcot etc. The Magic Kingdom is always our first park, and taking the tram from the parking lot (we're always in Pluto, but I guess we'll be in Simba this year!) to the Transportation and Ticket Centre, boarding the monorail, strolling down the ramp and soaking in the wonderful music are all oh so magical! And then of course entering Main Street and seeing the Castle - there is nothing like it! And finally getting on Space Mountain (which is always the first ride), walking through the queue and finally waiting to blast off! I get excited before riding every ride, but that first one is always special. And of course my excitement is renewed when my stomach tells me it's hungry and we head to Pecos Bill's or grab a churro or some ice cream (Citrus Swirl, Dole Whip, Strawberry ice cream on Main Street - the choice is so difficult!). And at the end of the day when I'm so tired I think I'll pass out if I feel any more excited, I see the fireworks and am swept off my feet. Now that's what I call excitement! :D

I hate flying too, I do it but I am white knuckle all the way. So much so that I am doing the Virgin Fear of flying course next week (about this time actually ).

As for my "OMG" moment, its when we drive our rental car out of the airport. Roof down, floridian sunshine and big smiles :)

Good luck with your Virgin fear of flying course, I've heard they're very good. My daughter used to be scared, although she'd flown regularly since she was tiny. She suddenly started having plane crash nightmares and refused to fly. She realised after a few years that she was missing out and deperately wanted to go back to WDW, so we bit the bullet and booked a short flight to Scotland. I poured brandy down her beforehand (she was 21 at the time!) and she never looked back. She still has a few pre-flight brandies though.

Hope you're able to enjoy your flights a bit more in future!

We drive every summer so I think it really starts to sink in when we cross into Florida and see the Welcome to Florida signs. But even before that we start to see the trees in South Carolina with the moss covering, I start get that tingling feeling of being so close. My kids really start to get excited when we start to see the different billboards on I-4 for Disney. Overall though, I think the real impact hits me when we finally check in at our resort and see our room.
Writing this really makes me get excited, only 30 more days until we experience this again for ourselves!!!! :)

I love this question! I had a difficult time coming up with just one answer. No two trips are ever the same--sometimes I fly, sometimes I drive in, sometimes I go to a park the first day, sometimes I just try to catch my breath and enjoy where I am before I start running myself ragged with touring. So, I think for me, it starts to hit when we pass under the Welcome to Walt Disney World sign, but it's the purple and red directional signs leading to the resorts and the parks that really make me realize that I'm FINALLY there! :)
