I was just surfing around the disney site, looking at things to do for our next vacation. I came across the "perfectly princess tea party" and holy cow....it's $250 for one adult and one child. If you add another adult it's an additional $85. Now this thread is not to knock any of you who don't mind paying that money for the experience as I am sure you enjoyed it but.....here's my thought. I do see that the child gets a bunch of extras like a doll, scrapbook, tiara, bracelet and such and I know a good chunk of what your paying is to cover that part of it. What I don't get is.....how could it possibly cost $85 for the additional adult to eat egg salad sandwichs, grapes, and tea????? Now for me personally, this is waaayyyy out of my budget but, with the economy the way it is right now, how do people afford this??? How can Disney justify really charging this amount for one experience. I could spend several more days on vacation for that price. Geesh....and I thought the BBB was overpriced! I am just curious what others feelings are about this.

There's no doubt it's overpriced, but so are a lot of the resorts, the food, etc. People will pay pretty much whatever it costs if they want to do it badly enough.

I've yet to have a child, so maybe when that time comes I'll have a better perspective on this particular experience, but yeah, I agree. Way too pricey for what you get.

I remember looking at the price of that particular activity and thinking the same thing. I like to spend money as much as the next person but that is just too much for my liking. I actually had to laugh at your comments about the additional adult costing $85 for egg salad!:ROFLOL:

As for BBB, we have allowed our daughter 2 trips to the "salon", but because this upcoming trip is an impromptu one it is just not in the cards. So, because when she has gone in the past she just gets the little bun, I have learned how to do that particular hair-do and have saved her sash's and I will be doing her hair myself. No one will know but us and she can still have her hair done for the P&P party. :zipit:

Now, if I can just find the pixie dust to sprinkle in her hair.....:p

Sometimes the overpricing can serve as a "crowd control." If it was cheap for 2 adults to accompany the child, then you're almost doubling the amount of people there. When they price it at $85, they are guaranteeing that people aren't just tagging along for fun but because they really want to do it. Hope that makes sense, just a guess.

This is no more outrageous than:

- a $250,000 Disney wedding
- a private half-hour with Disney characters for $500
- dinner at Victoria & Alberts
- the Premium/Platinum plans where all meals are included, almost unlimited recreation, La Nouba, and so many things that you almost don't have time for the parks....
- Disney's Night Kingdom at $250-$300 per ticket for a premium experience
- a $12,000+++ stateroom/suite on a 7-night Disney cruise
- don't forget the resort suites that go for $1800 per night and are always full!

Value is in the eye of the beholder!

Disney knows how to properly create and market these experiences.

People will continue to pay as long as they perceive the value is there.

I took my daughter to the tea for her birthday when she was 5 (about 3 years ago). I thought it was a huge pill to swallow at that time too but my hubby was down there on a business trip and our hotel was paid for by his company so that is how we justified the cost. I now have 3 daughter and there is NO WAY that we could do this again!! The cost of taking all three would be as much as our hotel bill for a whole week's stay!

My daughter wasnt really that impressed with it because the only Princess that was there was Aurora (Sleeping Beauty). My daughter didnt like the sandwiches so she just drank apple juice and ate a piece of the big pink cake for dessert with some grapes and cheese. They were a huge hit:). I would say to do the Royal Table meal or the Princess breakfast in Norway instead of wasting this kind of money on tea and a story.

It is overpriced, but everything at WDW is. I'm sure I'll still take my DD to the tea party someday, but I am going to wait until she is a bit older....she just turned three.
And your point about the extra adult is very valid....I think that is outrageous, even for Disney.
So when my DD goes, it will just be the two of us for sure. Unless her grandma wants to pay her own way!
And it will be a special treat...not something we do every trip....just a once in a lifetime kind of thing....which is why I do not want to do it now, even though she is old enough at age three. I'll probably wait until she is around 6 years old.

First and foremost, Disney is a business. They will charge what people are willing to pay. It may be a lot, but someone's paying if the event exists.

This would have been my guess as well.
It makes sense that if they charged less more people would want to do it possibly making the experience less magical. The bigger the crowd the less interaction there would be.

Also I hate to say it and I hope it's not taken the wrong way, but when you charge an ungodly amount for something it tends to weed out the "heathens" and give you a more refined group.

Not that all people with lower incomes are heathens, or that all people with higher incomes are refined, but trouble makers tend to fall in the lower classes. Ever noticed the huge difference in the guest behavior when you compare All Star Sports to the Grand Floridian?

Yes, I've actually seen some of the worst guest behavior at the Grand Floridian!

Screaming, yelling, temper tantrums - and those were the adults!

I have a friend whos daughter wanted to do the tea party for her birthday. My friend also had a 2 year old at the time and had to go (couldn't leave her outside by herself). They wanted to charge her the full amount for another child, otherwise, she wasn't allowed to eat! Come on... a 2 year old!!! That's just crazy!

I did this with my daughter when she was 7 and she loved it. There were a lot of moms there with their daughters. If I remember right, there was only one "whole family" there.

I looked at it as a once in a life time thing, and I think it was worth the money. It was a small group of people and the place wasn't full of screaming kids running around. The food wasn't that great, but as mentioned before the kids get a lot of extra goodies and the story telling program they did was really wonderful. My DD was in heaven the whole time.

Was it over priced? Probably, but we enjoyed it and have some great memories. Also, its Disney World, everything there is over priced. The only draw back is that DD who is 9 now still asks about doing it again. I always tell her that I would love to go with her one day when she gets a job and pays. :D

Tea Party

I know it pricey but have you ever seen it???? I am taking my 5 year niece there in October. She is only a tiny princess once and when they get older they don't want to do stuff like this. I will keep you posted on if it's worth the money, but I'm sure it will be. We have already picked out our dresses we are going to wear.

What about the tea time at the GF for $10 a person?? Much better than $250!!

As far as class goes, I have seen rich and poor with no class and rich and poor with class. I must say that as a teacher, I have seen some horrible parenting from some wealthy people. Just an observation!:)
