Olympic judges gone mad?

for those of you who watched the Olympic gymnastics tonight (Mon)...what did you think of it all? did you think Aleksei Nemov deserved at least a bronze medal? Nemov has been my favorite Olympian since Atlanta and i was overjoyed when I found out he was coming back this year...though, I've been highly upset that there has been no mention of the male Russian gymnasts until tonight. I think Aleksei did an amazing job tonight on the high bar, and the only person who deserved the gold more than him was the Italian (I failed to catch his name) who, of course, won the gold. Still, Aleksei deserved a medal of some sort...personally I found him much more impressive than the Japanese fellow who won bronze. And what is it with these judges and Paul Hamm? Sure, he's good, but the only thing he did better than Aleksei tonight was sticking the landing (which Paul didn't stick all that well, from what I can remember).

I definately agree that the scoring of Nemov was incorrect tonight. He definately deserved a higher score and to medal. I was absolutely amazed at the crowd reaction.

THe judges seemed to not know what they were doing last night in gymnastics!!!!!!!!! I agree that Nemov was AWESOME and deserved a much higher score!!! AND what's with all the tie scores on the parallel bars???? WHACKY. I just didn't understand it all. I felt bad for Paul Hamm not because he got the silver, but because he was put in the middle of all that crap again with the judges. (Also felt bad for Morgan who did a great job.)

Even the judges of the women on the floor exercize. What was up with that? They gave the US girl (forgot her name!) such a low score!!!! Didn't make sense.

I was beginning to wonder if there was ANOTHER competition going on that they were watching but that NBC wasn't showing us! I had wondered what happened to the Russian male gymnasts, since NBC hadn't seen fit to show them to us (I hate being bounced around from one taped event to another so much during the evening broadcasts) I personally thought it was an amazing routine and that release move was HUGE!

BUT...the fact that they changed his score brings up a question...how many OTHER scores could be changed...going in either direction...ie: maybe the South Korean's routine was started off too low...but maybe there were other mistakes not deducted that should have been (as Tim Dagget pointed out last night...) Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

I wonder how they're going to justify changing the scores.
Exactly. Whats to stop, say, Morgan Hamm (sorry..only names I know from last night are the Hamm boys  ) to step forward and say, Hey! My floor exercise should have gotten a higher score because I did this element and so and so didn't" ??? :veryconfu

The thing is if Korea had a problem with the scores right then and there they should of protested it right then and there. They waited a few to do that therefor possibly causing their athelete to get what he got. In swimming i cant think of the swimmers name , but they were going to disqualify him for a wrong turn. They proteseted right away and won because the judge could not get his act together....

I feel the score should not have been changed, the judges know what they are doing, they know more about gymnastics then most of us do. While his routine may have looked flawless to us and to the audience, the judges obviously saw something that WE did not! I felt so bad for Paul Hamm, being put in that situation and the audience was just plain RUDE, it should not have taken Nemov or what ever his name was to quiet the crowd down!

Well, judges are human, Darrel, and they can (and have) made mistakes. But, that is the nature of a sport that is judged, rather than run against the clock (and when did they get those turn judge dudes in swimming? I never remembered that before) The judging is subjective (hello, French judge from Salt Lake figure skating  )

I just felt bad for poor Paul Hamm all week. He looked so sad last night, you just wanted to hug the poor kid and buy him an ice cream cone

Maybe Someone can get Paul to post on wdwmagic and he can go into the huggles thread, I am sure he would get plenty of huggles there!

I read somewhere that they did approach the judges and were told to wait and file a written complaint.

My school's drama club did "The Wizard of Oz" the other year for the spring play and many of my friends were in it. We thought "Whoa, hes cute and he would have made a great king of munchkinland!"

...and, today, a South Korean boxer beat a Greek boxer when the referee stopped the fight cuz the Greek kid had a cut over his eye, most likely from an elbow. The Greek fans rained water bottles down on the Korean boxer and the referee...
