We left on the 7th last year, and it had been "unseasonably cold" or bloody freezing in real money.

Parks look fantastic, lots of special events to ratchet up the mythical magic, hotels all in their seasons finery. A veritable visual and aural feast. We are going again this year, however we will be reverting to warmer times next year all being well.

The christmas season at wdw is magical, and there is lots to see. The norm temp is the low 70s during the day but it can drop as low as the 40s, my advice is to make sure you bring warm clothes just in case, but it is usually thouse of us who are from florida dressed in sweaters and coats, lol. It is usually pretty dry in the winter so there is less chance of rain during december than say during the summer.

Things to see include:
Cinderella Castle at night - its mystically beautiful
MVMCP - if on whilst you are there
Osbourne Family lights at DHS
Illuminations with holiday section at EPCOT
Candelight Processional at EPCOT
The Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridan

Its also nice to tour the resorts if you have the time as they are all decorated to match their theming.

The time you are proposing is also alot quieter than spring break and there is more to do.

Outside Disney the Gaylord Palms usually puts on a great event called ICE, which i went to whilst on my ICP program and it was also fantastic.

First week of December is my favorite time to go to WDW. The weather can be anywhere from the 70s to the 30s. Good luck trying to figure out how to pack. :lol:

The parks and resorts just look absolutely amazing and crowds are pretty low. Plus, the beginning of December is still a cheaper time to go. There are so many great special events to see and do that it can be a little overwhelming.

My "must see" things are the castle at night, Osborne lights, and Illuminations with the holiday addition. MVMCP is good but avoid going on a night that has AP or DVC discounts if you can. It can be an absolute zoo on those discount nights. If you are interested in seeing beautiful decorations take time to visit some of the Deluxe resorts.

If you choose to go during this time period, you won't be disappointed.

Can't speak for bjlc57, but wanted to say this info has been helpful. I'm planing a mid-December stay at the WDW after my military commitment.

I've experienced WDW all of the seasons, but I have never visited during December. I think I will be hitting a good time weather-wise and crowd-wise.

Thanks again! Now, all I have to burn now is time until my trip.

It's usually upper 70's / 80 every year for the high. But, be prepared for any type of weather. I have not been cold in WDW since I was a kid and I am quiet thin. I suggest watching the weather forecast before you leave. Short sleeves and carry a hoodie is what we do - though so far we have never worn the hoodies. We are walking too much to get cold.

We were there three years ago during that week. It was pretty cool. In fact we had our winter coats with us which were great at night. Also warmed up during the day, but not past the 70's. We didn't do anything with the pools that week.

Above said, this is my favorite time to go. The place is decked out for Christmas. So much more to see. That week in particular is pretty slow as well.

A bonus with the cool weather is that we had more energy during the day since we didn't get too hot.

You are going to love it!!!! It is by far the best time to visit the World!!!

As far as weather is concerned, when we were there is '08 it was mostly in the 70's during the day, one day it was actually close to 90, apparently it was a record for that time of year. The evening and mornings can be chilly... we even had frost a few morning. Typically brought a sweatshirt with us everyday.

We were there the first into the second week of Dec and the crowds were small.... I hear Christmas week is insane so if you don't mind th crowds and the fact you will get little in at the parks I think you will enjoy all the Christmas festivities.

The weather in December is rather variable. Check the Weather button on here a week of so before the trip and look at the forecast.

You could need just shorts or you could need a heavy coat.

We went in early December of 2007.

The weather was great, in the 50's in the morning and warming up as the day went on. The cast members in the Magic Kingdom were wearing Navy Peacoats every morning where as coming from Boston we were in shorts. As you're from Wisconsin I'm guessing you will find it warm too. We did wear a jacket and pants in the evenings however, zip-offs worked out great for my son and I.

The parks were all decorated, and in full Christmas mode. Don't miss Mickey Very Merry Christmas Party.

The only crowds we encountered were during the weekend. During the weekdays we walked on every attraction, including Soarin, test track etc.

The two times I have gone in December it is so crazy, as far as the weather goes, that I had no idea how to pack. I took a winter coat and shorts and wore both!!! The parks are amazing!!!

We did Dec 8-14 last year. The first few days the weather was fantastic low 80's during the day. Then it got down right cold, jeans and long sleeves during the day. We needed sweatshirts at night and the kids even needed their winter hats and coats at night. The crowd level was very pleasant though, hardly waited for anything and the decorations are beautiful.

Don't miss the Christmas Party, Osborne Lights, World Showcase areas and if you have time tour some resorts (GF, WL and AKL were especially nice)

A relatively quiet time in early December with holiday decorations in full force vs. fighting a mob of college students in March, when the parks look like they do any other time of the year. :shrug:

okay a concern...

So we go in December.. how do we do the "water rides"? isn't it cold? Kali? splash Mountain? even Pirates or a small world? all water rides..

and please don't say, SKIP THEM..

this probably will be my last trip to Disney world in a very long time. If I am going, I want to SEE IT ALL.

our next trip will be out west again.. and then probably Washington D.C. and or New York.. and by then.. who knows..

Pirates and Small World are indoors...and you don't get wet on them anyway (maybe a minor spray on the drop in Pirates). No problems there.

I'm pretty sure (though not positive) that they "turn down" some of the splash effects on the outdoor water rides if it's chilly out, so you don't get as wet. But honestly, "cold" by Florida standards isn't really that cold. If you've got daytime temps in the 70s, you'll have no trouble drying off quick.

We've been the week after Thanksgiving twice and the weather can vary. Capris and shorts are great for day time. Jeans and a light sweater might be needed at night. It can be cool 1 day and hot the next. When we go during this time and even into April, we pack for both, a little for warm and a little for cool weather. That way if you do get cold and need a light jacket, you'll have one instead of searching MK for one, paying $50 and wearing it twice :lookaroun! We did that in April one year and jsut laugh about it because we had a very hard time finding a jacket.

I would keep an eye on the weather a week before and each day leading up to your trip (like you wouldn't do this anyway ). Pack based on what the temps will be and take a mix of both. You can't go wrong doing that! Hope this helps!

We were there the first week of last December. Weather was great. 70's during the day but it got cold at night. Went to the Christmas Party and had to wear our winter coats (lucky we brought them).

Crowds were lite during the day but it was packed for the Christmas Party.

Had a great time. Nice not sweating to death for a change.

Went for the first time in Dec 2008. It was fantasic! Osborne Lights are great! X-Mas party a lot of fun. Also, we loved looking at stuff at AK. Little X-Mas trees in Camp Minnie/Mickey are really neat. Didn't expect decorations in AK. Needed more time! EPCOT was very nice. WS is fun to tour with all the X-Mas stuff. We got lucky and had 3 days around 80. GO! Don't know when we'll be back in Dec but can't wait!

As other said the resorts are in the spirit of the season. We stayed at WL.

We went the 8-16th last year and only one day got chilly, but we still wore our shorts as noone brought pants etc. we did have ponchos for a rain shower one morning or maybe it was that day and it was a bit chilly but not unbearable. Rest of the time was in the 80's. just perfect... But if you get cold somewhat then I would bring a pair of pants and long sleeve shirt. You can also go to the laundry and have them ready for another day if need be.

This will be my 10th year of going before Xmas, usually the first week of December.

Pros:

Resorts and parks are all decorated for Xmas. Each hotel is worth a visit just to see the decorations, although the values don't have too much to see.

Special Xmas party at MK is a awesome.

Crowds are at their lowest, if there is such a thing at WDW.

I can only remember one time out of all the trips that any day was a total rain out.


Cons:

Pop Warner tournament normally goes on about this time. Depending on your timing and what park you are in, you may or not see any of them. But if you do see them, it will be in mass and ruin your day.

Even though the pools are heated, the air temperature is certainly way less the water temperature. Most mornings have a bank of fog coming off the pool. you can swim, but its nowhere near like being there in the Spring.

ANY weekend is PACKED with locals, it would seem. So if you go to the Xmas party at MK, PICK A WEEKDAY or prepare to see ridiculous crowds.
