Me and my fiance were planning a nice 11 day Disney vacation, 4 days on the Disney dream and 7 days at Disney world (POR, POFQ, or WL).

Well, my sister and I got to talking about cruising and she mentioned that she was taking a cruise in the fall on a massive, over the top ship named, "Oasis of the Seas." (Ooooh Aaaah... fancy huh?) I had never heard of it so I go to Googling and... o_O zip lining on the ship? rock climbing? Ice skating? A park? Water shows? Lions, tigers, and bears, oh my!

I mean seriously, who needs to stop at ports with a ship like that? I'm just sayin'

But now, me and my fiance are thinking of cancelling the entire Disney trip for a 8 day Royal Caribbean cruise? I feel like I'm cheating on my beloved Disney!! No Castaway Cay? No!!

Anyone cruised on both? Which would you choose?
Its just me and my boo, no kiddies! Both in our twenties, looking to celebrate our anniversary in a big way.

Tough choice. However, if you can afford a 11 day combo disney cruise plus 7 more days at WDW - I say you celebrate that route. Going on the 8 day royal cruise may be cheaper but its nothing like being in DW and in love.

We're booked on the Allure of the Seas (Oasis class, newer than OotS, and I think 6 inches longer or something like that) for Thanksgiving week this year. I'd love to say I'm looking forward to it as much as I am the Disney Fantasy but I'm not. If I could get us out of it, I would actually. I think we'll like if but it won't be Disney. My hubby's family are all going so its one of THOSE things..you know, we can cruise RCI but they won't cruise Disney.

I've been on the Allure of the Seas (sister ship to the Oasis) twice and I can tell you they are amazing. I have not been on a Disney cruise so I can't give you that perspective but I can tell you that if you are intrigued by the Oasis/Allure's zip line, the flow rider, the restaurant options and the ship itself, it will not disappoint. I'm looking to book again for this November.

Just my own opinion: If you want to sail on a ship, cruise Disney. If you want to sail in a city, cruise on the Oasis. It's an amazing ship, it has amazing features. But when you walk onboard, you walk into a mall, not a cruise ship. When you walk on deck, you're literally walking through a city neighborhood.

Either experience will be truly fantastic. It just depends on what kind of experience you want to have.

I think thats why I was so intrigued by Oasis, I've been on many ships before but never one that grand. Maybe Ill do disney this time, since it will be my fiance's first ever cruise and save Oasis for another year.

Last time I was on DCL was in 1998... I can't really remember much about it  I was a little worried that as a young couple, Disney wouldn't be for us

I know most people will kill me for this but I honestly think for young couples a Disney Cruise isn’t always the best option. Disney is a family friendly line, most shows are based that way, etc. Yes there is the adult area but being 18 (I was allowed in the adult area) I didn’t find it special enough to hang out there everyday. We are huge Carnival fans and as much as I wanted to do a Disney Cruise for our next trip to Alaska the price just didn’t work and we are still willing to try other companies.

We haven’t had an issue yet with them! We are almost gold members. If you think about how many cruise ships depart in a week it was just an unlucky month for them.

Ive cruised on Carnival twice before and never had an issue either, Im just busting your chops!

Check out my report from Sept. 2012. The husband and I left our teenagers at home and ran off to do a quick 3-night on the Disney Dream. We had a fabulous time! Disney does such an amazing job catering to just about every/any demographic. For an all-adult vaca they created great adult-only spaces and venues. In the daily Navigator (activities schedule) there's a whole section dedicated to adult-only programming. Seriously. Definitely don't feel like if you go on a Disney cruise you'll be wandering amoungst kiddos the entire trip because they aren't allowed in "our" spaces! ;)

Hmmm, I have already tried convincing my wife that we need to do a 5 or 7 day Med cruise on the Magic. Part of my plan involves leaving the kids with thier grandparents for the week. I have no problems with going without em, and the adult areas don't impresss me much anyway. I'd just like to be able to see the shows and a movie or two and not have to worry about a kid going down the stairs. I love my DCL and against the grain of my own mother, I won't consider other lines. Been on em before, like Disney better. Its about the experience, age is not relevant.

Agreed. Besides, you won't find bigger kids at heart than us and other Disney-fied grown-up people. We're all kids trapped in these aging bodies. ;)
