I have been on Oasis of the seas... Come... Join the dark side... We have Free donuts! And zip lining, and 2 rockwalls, and four pools, and a surfing simulator, and a water theater, and an ice ring, and free pizza, and a boardwalk, and a carousel, and a park, and mini golf, and well, you get the point...

I've sailed on the Oasis and I can tell you it is one amazing ship. I never wanted to leave. You don't even feel like you are on a boat, especially when enjoying Central Park. They also have a nice bar that goes up and down between 3 floors. The zip line and rock climbing are great. Awesome shows. Nothing has compared to that boat. And I say that from experience. I live 10 minutes from port canaveral and I go on cruises at least twice a year. But I would drive 2 hours to Fort Lauderdale again if I could get back on that ship. Wait to do the disney cruise ship when you have little ones. You won't regret it.

This is sorta the problem with DCL. While other cruise lines are offering all these activities like on Oasis, DCL does not have many activities for families with older children. The only thing I can think of kids ages 12-18 doing on DCL is pool and aquaduck, club things and shows which puts DCL at a real disadvantage because if I am at sea for 3 days activities on other cruise lines vastly outnumber activities on DCL if you are a family with older children.

Why is that a problem? From my point of view its a selling point. The experience and the service that DCL offers far outweigh the activities that one might find on a meg-ship. I think if you read trip reports by @sweetpee_1993 you will find her boys have a GREAT time with DCL, even on the little bity Magic. Which BTW is the finest ship on the high seas. :D

I think this just proves the point that I made earlier in the thread. It really all comes down to what appeals to you in a vacation. If you want a city that never sleeps, there's a place to get that. If you want top-of-the-line service and don't need to climb a rock wall or surf, then there's a place to get that, too.

Bingo. This is actually the great part of competition in the cruising industry. There are so many options you can choose from. Each cruise line has there own specialty which suits any kind of vacation people want. For example if you want many activities you can pick RCL, if you want an old style cruise you can pick HAL, if you want a custom experience you have NCL, if you want a great disney top of the line cruise you have DCL, if you want to go on a budget you have CCL.
