I've got to tell you, I'm starting to feel sympathy towards Mr. Eisner. He has to conduct himself with absolute decorum while dealing with idiots. Do people really think that a shareholder's meeting is the appropriate forum to discuss the number of commercials appearing during the Wonderful World of Disney?

If they are shareholders, they really can bring up anything that concerns them, as long as they stay within the predetermined rules for the meeting.

It's like any other organization's business meeting.

It reminds me of some church business meetings: a lot of good discussion, but some crazy ideas and misunderstandings abound! But in the end, we are all this together!

Apparently Evelyn is going to be on CNBC!!! CNBC said she would be on. Evelyn mentioned 1:40.

CNBC mentioned she owned stock in over 90 companies and travels to most of the annual meetings.

From USA Today:

"One Eisner ally, however, is Evelyn Y. Davis, the corporate gadfly who's tortured CEO's at annual meetings for 40 years. She'll vote for him, though not for board member George Mitchell."

Bob Iger is obsessed with the notion of Disney "brand", everything Roy was previously say is what is wrong with current management.

Iger sure can reel off business mumbo-jumbo, and somehow manages to say nothing.

I agree Steve, after years of working with attorneys, I'm so used to people saying lots of words that mean almost nothing. Blah, blah, blah, BRAND, blah, blah, blah, BRAND. Whatever.

Utilization of "Brand"

This is the one huge area where I so disagree. Of course the brand is known - more reason to protect it vs. gouge it. I think it is such a short term growth strategy vs. long term sustaining growth. Saturating the market with Mickey et. all is not going to keep it "special" which is a big component of the brand. The princess market is a good example - you see the princess stuff everywhere including the cheesiest locations. "Franchise management" is an interesting concept - a bit of an oxymoron with mgmt in my opinion.

Did I miss them mentioning "The Haunted Mansion" along with POTC as movie successes? And what's with the tv/comic/everything-else-under-the-sun? Oh, right, *branding*. Silly me.... :hammer:

Yup you're right there. Its so different to hear the way the board talk about Disney, compared to how Roy talks, and how Walt talked about Disney. The current board clearly have no concept of what Disney stands for.

Iger is just talking about how wonderful Mission Space is. I wonder if he has even ridden it, but I am sure he has a spread sheet about how much it costs, and how much he can save by maybe operating only 2 ride bays instead of 4.
