So . . . am I the only one here, who saw Captain EO when it came out, and thought it was dismal?

EVERYONE who was anyone in movies then was involved, Coppola, Lucas, Rick Baker, Industrial Light and Magic. What a list! And yet, I did not care for it a whit.

I think that HISTA is waaaay better . . . and yet long in the tooth at this point and I would not miss it if it were to go away, either.

EO? Meh. That's just me, though, I guess.

An announcement that EO is coming back would be met by yours truly
with a disinterested shrug.

To quote Jackson himself, "You are not alone."

I couldn't care less for EO either! I don't get the appeal!?!

I do however love Cars and I wish WDW was the one getting Carsland! RSR sounds awesome... I guess one of these days I'll have to venture over to the west coast and see it!

Thanks to everyone who has been adding updates to this thread!

During a Q&A session with the Imagineers about an hour ago, a fan asked about Captain Eo and Imagineering Legend Marty Sklar said he would love to see Captain EO back in the parks!

My respect for Sklar...RISING
Saw that. :D Quite cool.

I just don't get, however, why anyone's respect would wane for a Disney Legend and class act like Mr. Sklar, however. The man was doing his job.
DCA is not strong enough. But once all its training is complete, DL and DCA will rule the galaxy as father and son.
:lol::sohappy:

So, I went to the expo today and got to hear Kevin Rafferty basically give a full rundown on RSR. Both the models, the Autoanimatronic, and descriptions were amazing. You can see in the models that most of the show buildings are tucked in mostly toward the south. Basically, the rundown is that you'll enter through an extremely elaborately themed outdoor queue that will start at the fire house and wind back to the big canyon area tucked behind the front hills. He said there will be a house made of glass bottles and all kinds of cool things the Cars have collected as well as neat water spring features and lots of landscaping. The ride takes you past the big waterfall and inside the show building where you meet the characters and while they drive backward they will interact with you personally. Then you hear about the race you're going to be involved in and they tell you you have to get ready. You go through a bunch of effects rooms somewhat based on Test Track, but much more highly themed and elaborate, then you set up for the race. The race takes you basically on two big laps around the whole outdoor area, the one lap featuring a fast straightaway and the and a wide banked turn and one featuring several bunny hills and a tight turn. Then the climax of the ride takes us diving down a hill into a dark cavern underground. First you pass through an area full of hot springs that give Radiator Springs its name and then into a deeper cavern full of "stalaglights" giant stalagtites that look like classic car lights. It really sounds pretty amazing.
WOW, color me jealous of DCA and DL, as usual... That's great.

Hated Captain EO, but it was better than HIStA.
Not a huge fan of Cars, but I won't leave the room if its on or anything. Its the only Pixar movie that I don't think is a 4- to 5-star movie. However, as many have said on here before, a good or great attraction is a good or great attraction, no matter the source material, and RSR looks and sounds absolutely amazing. It looks to continue the most impressive part of Disneyland to me; the way they manage to squeeze the most out of the available space to make large and immersive attractions. It looks like my biggest pet peeve about DCA will be addressed at least in this particular attraction, and that's the way the outside world intrudes on the park.

Single-Finger Pointing CM!

What a shame! I think this sums up the state of the integrity of TWDC.
Here's a screenshot of a CM (at least, a man wearing a Disney name badge) who is pointing with a single finger while showing Bob Iger, CEO around!

What gives!

I'm going to guess that this is someone that works in an office somewhere, probably in Burbank, and never shows anyone around.
What model is that, btw?

I went back to see the Mystic Manor model again today and one of the imagineers (20 plus years) working on the project walked us through the story using the storyboards. You are visiting the estate/mansion of the guy (sorry..don't remember the name) who has a huge collection of items from around the world. He allows people to visit his mansion and even has these electrified vehicles for people to ride around in. I asked the imagineer and he confirmed they use the Pooh technology from Tokyo, except they have made some improvements. Apparently in Tokyo they have a whole grid of wires across the floor, but now they can do it with a single wire. You board your vehicles and they depart in groups of fours. The owner has this pet monkey which you meet earlier in the preshow. I believe he said it was an animatronic. You are here on a special day because the owner just got this new chest. The monkey winds up opening the chest which unleashes the magic. The vehicles then travel in single file through the rooms of the mansion where all the artifacts come to life (sounds like Night in a Museum). For example, the picture of a volcano has it exploding and all the people in the painting running away from it. In the armory room, you almost get shot at it...etc...You start moving from room to room faster and faster (in typical disney fashion), till you get to the last room where all the vehicles are back in groups of four again. The room is spinning around and you are spinning around with it, sort of like a tornado when finally the money closes the chest again and all is back to normal. It appears you are back in the original trophy room, but when you look at the model, its actually a different room that looks the same. I have to say, this is a first rate attraction that any of the parks would love to have. You know, hearing the imagineer talk about the attraction, you can see that when story is the key to an attraction, you get the what Disney is supposed to be all about.

I'm a little surprised to hear some of these opinions about Cars, I thought it was one of Pixar's very best, most clever and witty films. I suppose it's just all experience, the movie very heavily drew on my memories of road trips across the country. And and while I'm not heavily embroiled into it myself, I certainly get the car culture that's so prevalent in the movie.

And of course I'm very pumped for Carsland! :-D

(Although, it seems like they could come up with a better name than that...)

Carsland is going to be the most amazing thing since amazing.

So far, nothing I needed this thing to tell me that I didn't know already.

Yes, Mystic Manor looks very, very cool. But is anyone else disappointed that's it's not closer to the original style of Haunted Mansion? I was excited for another variation along the lines of Phantom Manor.

We'll have to see about their Adventurers Club. I think it's probable that it will be Adventurers Club in name and pilfered props only.

Gotta disagree. I like the idea of a unique HM for each park similar to how each has a unique design of castle. I really would rather see MM added to WDW. And since it really is not a HM clone, who knows. Maybe it might someday.
