I don't want them in NY.
There will be traffic, there is no way that these athletes will be taking the subways. If they did, the subways would have to be closed for everyone else.
NY has a really stupid proposal, but I will keep from getting political about it.

Also, if NY does get the olympics, the Mets will not have as nice of a new stadium as they should. The entire right field side of the stadium will have to be destroyed for the stupid olympic stadium. Plus there will be no parking lot there.

1960 EU (Rome)
1964 Asia (Tokyo)
1968 NA (Mexico)
1972 EU (Munich)
1976 NA (Montreal)
1980 EU (Moscow)
1984 NA (LA)
1988 Asia (Seoul)
1992 EU (Barcelona)
1996 NA (Atlanta)
2000 AUS (Sydney)

I know they have ( almost) no change but I would like them to be in Moscu,
I love their mayor, he's fun.

I hope it isn't Madrid, I couldn't stand 7 years more of hysteria collective.
300 persons presenting Spain ,Royalty, presidents, etc...
(When they presented Barcelona there were only 4 or 5 , not a representation of the central goverment.)

I think we were an option at some point... hehehe Like someone would award Rio the right to host the Olympic Games! We're having the Pan games next year, and that's gonna be messed up enough.

Wow

That's a surprise.

I wonder if Chirac lost it by saying it would be better to hold it in France because English food is so bad?

I love the Olympics, and was hoping that they would be "close by"!

Congrats to London though!

Unfortunately, I'll have to settle for TV coverage . . . can't quite drive there, as I could have with NYC! :(

The London bid was just superior! Simple as that :)

Gotta' give them kudos - after having been written off as no-hopers several months ago they got the job done.

I'm sure the UK press are rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of destroying the whole thing like they did the Millenium Dome

Yeah! those English crooks must have made some last minute deals!

I'm glad to see that London beat out Paris. Looks like there will be some major construction going on for the next few years.

London Prevails In Rollercoaster Vote
Posted 9:09 am ET (GamesBids.com)

London defeated Paris on the final ballot of the 2012 Olympic bid vote, but on the second ballot it appeared Madrid was about to secure victory in the very tight race.

On the first ballot London took a slim lead with 22 votes followed by Paris with 21, Madrid 20, New York 19 and Moscow 15. Moscow was eliminated.

But on the second ballot Madrid made strong gains gathering 32 votes followed by London with 27, Paris 25 and New York 16. New York was eliminated.

On the third ballot London regained the lead with 39 votes. Paris followed with 33 and Madrid was eliminated with only 31 votes.

On the final ballot London won with a narrow margin, 54 to 50 over Paris.

While it appears that New York received some courtesy votes on the first ballot to stave off early elimination, it's not immediately understood what caused Madrid's topsy-turvy performance.

More on this story as it develops.

London, London, London!!!!!!!!

If we get the games I will be bombarding the organisers (watch out Lord Coe!) to use the Classical Greek Dance Association in the opening/closing ceremonies. Considering a british woman, Ruby Ginner MBE, devised classical Greek dance I think it would be a nice UK/Greek link with the ancient and modern games.

Yes, yes I know I am a geek

Hooray!!!!!!!!!!! I will start my campaign to get Greek dance in the ceremonies shortly, watch this space!!!!!

There goes that theory! Congrats to London. Apparently, the war of words between France and the UK was getting hot. It even got some play in the US press. It was good to see Tony Blair take the high road and not stoop to Chirac's level. If Tony Blair wants to move to the US in the future, We'll give him what King George promised Lord Cornwallis...the entire Ohio valley!
