If Tony Blair wants to move to the US in the future, We'll give him what King George promised Lord Cornwallis...the entire Ohio valley!
Never mind that valley, he's currently in a creek of his own and struggling for a method of propulsion ;)

I'm kind of glad that the Olympics will be hosted there... many WDWMagic'ers will be able to get the inside scoop on things... in 7 years.

We're having the Pan games next year, and that's gonna be messed up enough.
We're having the Junior Pan Am's this year in Windsor... those will be about as close to Olympics that we'll host...

It appears as if the USOC is reopening the 2016 bid process. Who wants to join in on Orlando 2016?

No, I'm really almost serious.

Congratulations London!! Wow, the voting did not go down the way I expected it to. I was expecting it to go down between New York and Paris. A year ago London's bid was not a sure thing. But it seems things picked up once Lord Coe took over London's bid. Who is this guy? I read an analysis that a majority of the committee fell in love with him and were absolutely charmed by him and his bid. A charming Englishman??? Now there's something I've never heard of. :animwink:

I survived the 96 Olympics in Atlanta. The media did one heck of a job scaring everyone about traffic jams. Scared them so much that most people I know left town. Traffic was non-exsistant, unless you went downtown BUT that is everyday. I worked for Nextel at the time (they were introducing their new 2 way phones) and we were coming in at 3am, working til 11 and then going to see whatever events we had free tickets for. The tickets came from big name companies that were "testing" the new 2 ways during the games.

Glad I didn't get caught up in all that lottery nonsense for tickets. Pay in advance and you MIGHT get a ticket for choice 1 - 2 - or 3. I don't think so.

In any event, CONGRATS London!!!!! :sohappy:

Might be time to visit the relatives in Stoke-On-Trent.............

Sebastian Coe is a former Olympic runner and gold medalist, and yes for an older man (I'm 31!) he is quite dishy!!!

Same thing was said of Atlanta.

Atlanta is a "real" city.....Orlando....not really

Also, the timeframe would be in the middle of hurricane season, which is one reason why Tampa was never a serious contender.

Congrats to London, My #2 choice (after New York)!

Semi-Thread Drift: Who are the candidate cities for 2016 (or 2014, for that matter)?

2014
Borjomi or Bakuriani, Georgia
Östersund and Åre, Sweden
PyeongChang, South Korea
Salzburg, Austria
Sofia, Bulgaria

The decision will be in July of 2007 in Guatemala City and the deadline for nominations is July 28 2005.

2016
Chile
Busan, South Korea
Delhi, India
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Hamburg, Germany
Sapporo or Fukuoka, Japan
Kenya
Milan or Rome, Italy
Portugal
Rotterdam, The Netherlands
St. Petersburg, Russia
Moscow, Russia
Tel Aviv, Israel
Thailand
San Diego/Tijuana
Minneapolis/St. Paul (They came second in the US 1996 race)
New York City (probably, judging by comments Dan Doctoroff made after losing)

I also think that other US cities will bid, namely DC, LA, San Fran, Boston, and Houston.

It won't come to Houston- even if we do bid (yes I am from Houston) Honestly, we don't have enough compacity (in my opinion) to hold something like the Olympics (I know many Houstonians that totally would jump me for that statemet, but it's how I feel about it....)
