I noticed parking is $12 at the parks now! Thats waaaay too much for my liking, Are there any cheap hotels that have shuttles to the parks? I remember staying at a Quality Inn once with my Mom and they had shuttles but that was so long ago

A friend of mine recently stayed at the Fairfield Inn at the Marriott Village (they have several hotels within the complex). It's about a mile from the MK main gate and they offered a shuttle (for a small fee - I think it was around $7 a day) to the parks.

But some of the other "Good Neighbor" hotels offer free shuttles. Check out this site: http://www.downtowndisneyhotels.com/

Why not stay on property and put the parking fees towards your room. You get free parking if you stay onsite plus you can take advantage of Disney transportation. There are lots of great deals going on to help save some more money!

I have stayed at the Marriot World Center and they did provide a shuttle. However, they had a specific pick up time each evening and I was just not down with having to make sure I was ready at the time they chose. I think you might find this with other hotels as well but I can't be certain.
So I ended up taking their metro car (because they would not let taxis pick you up) each time just so I could pick when I wanted to come back. $17 - $30 one way depending on which park!
I always stay on property - the only reason we stayed there was because my fiance was there for a trade show and I got to stay there for free. Went to Disney three days by myself while he worked.
Stay at a Value Resort! It really can be very affordable, you'd be surprised, and totally worth not having to worry about transportation.

I have found that staying off property has never worked out financially and/or timely for us. For example - we stayed one place with no shuttle and we had to pay for it and you were limited to the times that you could take it and when it would pick you up. At the end of the day, we could have stayed for the same price at a resort on property. Also, you some times share shuttles with other area resorts and you can find your self on the shuttle for a long time. You can get some great deals on property now.

The first time we visited Florida we stayed off site (Quality Inn near Universal) and that had a free shuttle. We spent about 7 days at Disney in total and always used the free shuttle bus.

The good:
1) Free (well almost, tip's are 'appreciated')

The Bad:
1) Even during a quiet January, the bus was almost full so during summer you might not be so lucky
2) Slightly erractic approach to a time table. It was never ontime (usually 15-20 mins off and we were one of the first stops!)
3) Many stops on the way which ment the trip was anywhere from 40mins - 90mins each way
4) Only 3 scheduled times (around 8, 9 and 10am I think) for going to the park and 3 for coming back (again around 8, 9 and 10pm) which made half day visits impossible without a taxi
5) Needed to pre-book your return time which didn't always fit in with plans
6) Always needed to get back to the EPCOT coach park by 9.45 to make sure we got home - always run out of illuminations!

The above makes it seem like it was terrible but that's not true. I knew I wouldn't be getting the same experience I've had at DLP where you can just walk from your hotel to the parks and I was ready to accept there would be some travel time to Disney as we had good access to other parks and attractions.

The worst part about it was the lack of freedom. You went to the park and that's exactly where you would stay for the full day - this is probably worse if you don't have the park-hopper option.

The bus was pretty run down, the hotel was far from being nice and the travel was annoying but at that time, staying offsite was our only real option.

My advice is to check the shuttle arrangements (pick up / drop off times, how long the journey takes, what happens if the bus is full) with a couple of hotels and then make your decision.

For what it's worth, the shuttle service from my trip to DL earlier this year was fantastic so I really guess it depends on the hotel your with.

We stayed at the Marriot World Center back when my daughter was around 5, so must have been 1988 or so. We had tickets to MVMCP (one of the first, I think) so the hotel had a shuttle running. It was at a specific time, and cost around $10 EACH RT. We discovered that we could hire a limo to take us back and forth for around $50, and could come and go on our own schedule. It was worth the extra money, and a little girl felt like a princess for the evening.

So, if you're in a group, it's sometimes easier to hire a taxi, car service, etc.

We always stay offsite at the Ramada Gateway which is 1 mile from the parks. We don't use the shuttle as we have our own car and are annual passholders so therefore no parking fees, but the motel offers a shuttle to the parks. It is a van that seats about 12 people. There is no charge, but from what I heard from others staying there, they stop at other motels as well and then go onto the parks and the same for return trips from the parks. We like the flexibility of hopping in our car and going, not waiting on busses, especially after a long day in the parks!

We're too poor to stay on property lol
I'm seeing the shuttles are a waste so I guess we're gonna have to suck it up and cough up the $12 for parking.
My Dads already on edge about a preggo wanting to spend her birthday at Disney world, Thinks its a waste and I'm ridiculous! (He's completely insane)
Hopefully this won't push him overboard and make him cancel my trip. :(

I think you should really price a trip with a hotel on property. There are value resorts for as low as $89 ( I think they are still that low) depending on when you go. The most a value resort cost is about $119, I think, so look at some of the off property ones and see the difference. There are other perks too like when you purchase something in the park or downtown, you can have it sent back to your room so you don't have to carry it around all day. Also, you have access to the Extra Magic Hours but you can't do that if you are off property. I have been probably around 25-30 times in my life and I stayed off property ONE time and I will NEVER do it again!! It was such a hassle going back and forth without being able to hop on one of the Disney buses. The hotel was also terrible and not worth it! Think about it, if you are paying $99 at an off property hotel then you add the $12 fee in for parking, you are at $111 already and don't forget about gas too! Just a thought of trying to help you realize that it really isn't that expensive to stay on property.

I just sent my daughter to Disney for graduation and it cost $660 total for the All Star Music resort for 5 nights, the basic dining plan and tickets with park hopper for 6 days. She just went from June 8-13th....just wanted you to know that it really isn't that bad....Good luck!

Are you sure? I really think you should get a quote on one of the values. Honestly, we do not get to go to WDW often and are always tight with money and the values have been wonderful.
Not sure how many people are in your party, but last year in Oct I had a room of 4 and it ended up being around $500 for me for 7 nights. This included the park hopper tickets and the room. Then my travel agent applied a promotion that Disney had offered to my package and saved us each another $50.00. I find that to be cheap for WDW - but then I am not sure what your quote is at an offsite. I really think you should contact Kingdom Konsultants for a rate. That is the nice thing about them as well, you will book your trip and there will be a rate they lock in for you, but if any promotions/discounts come in between then and the trip they will automatically apply these for you and you don't have to do a thing.

Also consider going during a promotion such as free dining or a room discount. I really think if you don't have a car, on property is the place to be.

I was limited to finding a room in between $30-$45, My Dad thinks he's wasted too much money on Disney to ever splurge on a nice resort!
But we live only 2 hours away so we're just heading out in a few hours!
I swear I have never heard so many complaints about my favorite place in the world from one man!!!

Oh well at least you live close. That makes it a bit easier. I understand about the cost - I am with ya! I just would not bring a car from Michigan and really love not having to worry about the transportation.
My dad is the same way. He only took our family once and I was 13. All the rest of my trips have been as an adult and he just does not get why I insist on going back!

As a visitor from the UK I generally stay on I drive and use the free shuttles to save on car hire and parking but in recent years I've found the shuttle times for Disney are crazy i.e last bus back leaves as Wishes or Illuminations starts. I have found the Lynx 55 bus useful in the winter as you can get a bus back from TTC around 9.40pm which will allow a connecting Lynx 8 to get you back down I drive but the only way to see Illuminations these days is to drive there.

Mears Tranportation offer a service back to I drive hotels after Illuminations but at $8 per person each way you are better paying the $12 parking unless you are travelling solo.
