I've never stopped and listened to any concerts in WS and since I kind of like Celtic Music, I thought maybe we'd listen to Off Kilter if our schedule permits.

What time to they generally play? Do they play every night? If not every night, are there certain days that they play, or do they just put out a schedule for each month?

btw, if it is Irish/Celtic type music, wouldn't that be more fitting in the UK pavillion instead of Canada? I realize that the majority of Ireland is not part of the UK, but Northern Ireland is. And the rest of Ireland isn't part of Canada either, so in my mind, I guess it's just more fitting at the UK since it's at least right next door on the map.

I don't really have an answer why Off Kilter is in Canada. Also wanted to let you know that they are a celtic rock band - not traditional celtic music. We really like them & have all their CD's. They don't play everyday. It's usually four days a week.

Ah, thanks for reminding me that they are a rock band and not traditional Celtic music. I may not be so interested after all.

I didn't get Off Kilter at all until I visited Ottawa on business one winter during the ice festival. I went a few days early to play the tourist, and as I was without family, one of the things I did was to go pub hopping one night on the weekend.

It appears that the primary ancestry of Ottawa is Irish, at least today. I never looked into the history to see when the Irish settled there, but there is a large Irish descent population. To be sure, there is an amazing mix of many different ethnic backrounds, including Italian, Vietnamese, etc., etc. But especially in the part of town where my hotel was, was Irish-Canadian.

And so the pubs have for the most part have Celtic-Rock fusion music. I must have heard three or four bands of that genre in my pub hopping.

I had forgotten about Off Kilter, but the next time I saw them, I said to myself "Oh, wow, now I get it!". I even went and talked to them after the show to tell them this story. They thought that was cool.

So, that explains why they are in the Canada pavillion. It's so much cooler seeing them after having been to Ottawa. I think Off Kilter rules, and I'm very sorry I missed seeing them on my last trip - I just didn't happen to be at Epcot at the times when they were playing.

I found Off Kilter a few years ago...and haven't looked back since. I had always known about them...but never paid them any mind until I saw their act. They rocked my socks off...I now own all their cd's. Give 'em a listen...they are a lot of fun.

Celtic music is related to people of celtic origin, which includes Scotland as well as Ireland. The type of bagpipes they play in Off Kilter is the Great Highland bagpipe, which is related to Scotland.
There is a very large Scottish population in Canada, especially Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia translated means "new Scotland".

Exactly!!! Off Kilter is definitely NOT Traditional, however I doubt you will find many more accomplished musicians anywhere. Each of the guys is just amazing at what he does. THe traditional songs are re-worked and given new life. Amazing Grace has an almostt Jazz flavor to it and Danny Boy is much more of a rock beat. If you are looking for more traditional stuff, Id tell you to head down to Raglan Road in Downtown Disney around 9 pm to see the band Tuskar Rock. They are far more traditional than OK is. If you are ready to see a very unique act with one of the best bagpipers in the World ( I Am not kidding here, Jamie routinely competes in bagpipes contests around the world and has taken some of the top prizes in them!!!)I would definitely tell you to check out Off Kilter. WWW.Offkilter.net is their webpage and has a few samples of some of their music including Follow Me Off to Carlow, which is the song that is playing when the site is accessed. Go to the Music page on this site ( the stop audio button is on the bottom right hand side of the page and check out some of the more traditional songs to get an idea. Keep in mind some of these are original songs written by Off Kilter themselves so you may not be familiar with them. Also if you do a search on YouTube there are quite a few videos of the boys rockin' out that might help you to decide. Hope this helps!!! Belle

If you have ever heard of or enjoy Spirit of the West, Ashley MacIsaac or Great Big Sea, you'll love Off Kilter. They're all from our Atlantic provinces, as dsnylvr suggests, where this music genre reigns supreme. Personally, even though Off Kilter guys themselves are not Canadian in any respect, I am proud that they call the Canadian pavillion "home" and highlight the musical originality of the Maritimes.

I didn't think of that. Yet another (even better reason) they are there.

Exactly, in the Atlantic Provinces Newfoundland has very strong Irish origins, Nova Scotia is of course Scottish plus Acadian (very similar to celtic - like their Cajun relatives), then even more Acadians in New Brunswick.

The pix in your thread were great! It's hard to get a good picture of them because they are so active during their sets.

I wish I was there now...
