October Crowds

I am under the impression that crowds are down in a major way as of the moment...most likely cause of the recent Hurricanes..I was wondering if this trend is expected to continue in October...what can we expect crowd wise...We will be there for a full week starting on October 10th...thanks in advance.

Not sure what you mean by "way down". Numbers are usually down significantly in Sept. and Oct. with a minor swell over Columbus Day weekend.

Barring any additional unwanted visits from the Caribbean, weekdays will be light with a noticable increase on the weekend, particularly Saturday (and much of that in MK).

I understand that Sept. usually has far less crowds then in season...but as I understood....it's been pretty barren in the parks of late...even much more so then your average September day crowds...I also have heard Crowds can pick up somewhat in October due to the Food and Wine Festival and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. I was just curious as if this would remain or not..maybe people in the know may have heard how book the resorts are..etc..etc...

I went last year for the last week of October and the crowds were super light. I don't think I waited more than 10 minutes for anything. Plus being there at that time is great. The weather is still warm and the MNSSHP is a blast.
Enjoy if you decide to go!!

Been there twice in october and look forward to being there the 10th as well. On both trips the weekend was busy at mk but we owned all the rest of the parks going on rides in minutes!!!!!!!!!!

I've gone during the same week in Oct for the last 3 years in a row (4th trip coming up in 2 weeks), and it has never been crowded. We rode Space Mtn back to back several times, and ping-ponged between RnRC & ToT 5 times with no waiting what-so-ever. However, I am nervous about this year's trip. All of those $49/night emails and postcards are bound to bring in more business. :lookaroun

I'll be happy as long as it's not summer type crowds..I may be in the minority...but in a way I hope it's not a barren wasteland...I sort of like at least a tiny hustle and bustle.

October is my favorite month to go.. less crowds, no bugs, not real hot, the evenings are perfect and the Food and Wine Festival is rockin'

Actually, I doubt that you are in the minority on that one. It would seem as festive if the parks were like ghost towns. A 10 or 15 minute wait is not bad and it gives you a little rest time to keep going strong! :)

Yea, that's right. It's quite strange to be there with noone else around. We did an Epcot tour in the World Showcase before it opens. It was a bit eery to be walking around and to only see a few other guests about.

But I got some great photos with nobody in them.

Good point! Maybe it would be nice to have a few hours without a lot of people around. Just think of the photo opportunities! :)

Our third October trip is coming up on Friday, and we really enjoy going then, but you can expect the crowds to increase over the Columbus Day weekend, as another posted. It's never been a barren wasteland when we've been there, and some rides have a longer than expected wait time. In 2002 Peter Pan had a 45 minute wait!

Update

Well, let me revise some of my (and others) earlier comments about October, or should I say Octobers after Septembers full of hurricanes.

Just got back from the first week in Oct. at WDW and it was pretty crowded! Mornings were not bad, but by noonish, each park we were in got fairly full. Test Track, Splash, ToT and RnRC had waits in the PM of 45 min. or so.

Having visited fairly regularly in Octobers, I can only guess that this is a major spillover of those that had their plans altered from September.

The parks were PACKED! I think it was worse at MK than during the summer! Lines were so long for everything! 70 minutes for Peter Pan, 55 minutes for Pooh, it was like summer but only cooler and less humid!

I did have a great trip though...so I can't complain too much!

Just got back from my trip last week. It was hot and humid for most of it and the crowds were incredibly large. Some said it was from the hurricanes and some for the Food & Wine Festival. I have never seen it this crowded or rode so few rides or saw so few attractions. Hoping it will be better next year in December.

Yeah, I don't know what WDW you guys went to, but it was pretty darn crowded when I went Thurs.-Sun. starting the 14th of Oct.

Not like when I went the day before Jeanne hit. It was so empty and wonderful.

I <3 small crowds.

A New Record?

I don't know if Disney will report anything, but I would be comfortable in guessing that this year has provided record attendance for an October. With Halloween on a Sunday, I'm sure this weekend will be wild as well, putting numbers well over the top.

As I have always enjoyed the modest volume and quiet of October visits, I kinda hope this is a fluke instead of a trend (although more volume means more attractions/events).
