News OBJ Disney Acquires More Land Near Magic Kingdom

There is a homeowner that lives in a small home with a private entrance near the guard gate in front of the expansive Hyatt Recency Grand Cypress which is a few minutes from Disney Springs. The homeowner refused to move out even with generous cash offers when the hotel and golf course was built years ago. He still lives on the hotel grounds.
I don't think you mean that. The homeowner's property is still adjacent to the hotel grounds.

I believe the house is on the grounds but the Hyatt hotel fenced around the homeowner. Last time I visited the Hyatt, there is a small sign saying private property for the homeowner who didn't want to leave, and a small road leading away from the hotel security gate. Do you have more info?

It is not on the grounds of the hotel, homeowner owns the land it sits on.

It makes sense now. The homeowner refused to leave, the Hyatt Regency built the hotel grounds around his home. Guests that ride horses from the Grand Cypress Equestrian Center ride around the Hyatt property can see the homeowners land and home he refused to give up.

Ha! Interesting. If only history could show us! The home/building looks to be in pretty bad disrepair. Given the relatively dead clearing around it, not much grass or anything, I wonder if Reedy Lake flooded into the surrounding area at some point forcing the owners from staying.

What's interesting is that this structure was built sometime between 2009-2010 (according to google earth map history) So its not really that old.

Is it possible this land is just for conservation use? Thought I heard somewhere that Disney's agreement with the state was that they had to maintain a portion of conserved land compared to what they build on. This could allow them to build in a different section of the property while maintaining their land conservation ratio.

While I'm not an expert, I believe this to be true. It's been stated several times on these forums as a strategy they frequently use to be in compliance with local conservation laws. However, as we all know these days just because you say something over and over, doesn't mean it's true. ;)

The house looks neat and the property appears to be maintained. But it looks suspiciously unused with the lack of any driveway, parking spot or tire tracks. Or even a gate or pathway leading to the house.

Perhaps the empty plot of land was bought as a speculative investment, and the house was thrown up in order to have it classed as "residential" for property tax purposes or some other kind of legal manoeuver. Just until the land could be flipped.

That's definitely a possibility.

This is cool. I love stuff like this. Can you see this home on Google Earth?

Yes, this is possible. They have bought a lot of land for this purpose recently, but most of that has been far detached from the main WDW property.

Fun with Google Maps! So, this comment is inaccurate. Here's another snapshot from Google that shows a clear worn track to the closest main road. I'm guessing gravel??
