Walt Disney World is the largest single-site employer in the United States yet the unemployment rate in Orlando is extremely high (7% last I remembered). They proven themselves to rely on hiring people from different countries (or even poverty stricken countries) to get that government tax break.

What "government tax break" are you referencing?

Cant fault immigrants, keep wages low and manager bonuses high.

New beemer sir?
That seems to be the prevalent strategy of big business.. pay politicians to protect immigrants(so they can continue to work on their companies) and others to attack(so they get blamed for the local economy tanking).
so the local native population will be angry at the immigrants.. who will take the blame for something the rich and corporation owners did.

There is no presumption. It IS a civil suit. Only the government (local or Federal) can file a criminal suit. Not to say there won't be a criminal suit, apparently the investigation is ongoing.
It could be several things, such as arbitration, judge only, jury, or other mode of finder of fact.

Well, I find it amusing the court of public opinion, the ultimately impotent court, is so quick to come to a conclusion based on one side of this story. People can flock in solidarity to whatever dramatic cause because Disney is cheap and execuitive bonuses, etc, what have you, when facts say, and Disney released a statement saying the two people were offered jobs with the same pay, well that right there blows this whole little shin-dig right out of the water.

This isn't about morals or employment, its about money and Disney did not payoff these people and now they went public. Look up all the other times the legal experts from this site predicted Disney settling or losing court judgements in the past, track record is embarrassing to put it nicely.

This gets thrown out of court.

Jimmy Thick- Abe Vigoda dying is bigger news.

I disagree. I think they have a case especially once some of the internal emails come out in discovery.

I agree and Dis seems like an awfully nice target to make an example, I wonder if Cognizant is going to end up on the hook here too. That would be the best way to to curb both sides of this.

The recent decision to hold contracting companies responsible for the treatment of workers was a good first step to reigning this behavior in.

Of interest albeit tangentially, Cognizant had its conference at Disney and did a giant event at World Showplace shortly before Christmas.

Oh I think Cognizant along with the other big players in the H1B contracting mess are going to get sucked in. The original purpose of the H1B program was to get specialized talent not available in the US.

An example would be a engineer who speaks several African languages to support telecom equipment customers in Africa, I think Cruz's most recent bill to set the H1B 'Minimum Wage' to 110,000 to the WORKER indexed for inflation is probably the only way we will break this racket as it will make H1B help expensive.

Doubtful. Disney violated Federal H1-B laws, just as they violated Federal labor laws regarding anti-poaching agreements they initiated with other studios. Both the former Disney animators lawsuit and the shareholder lawsuit haven't been thrown out, and are proceeding nicely.

This is going to be yet another black eye for Burbank, on top of the ESPN meltdown and SDL woes. Methinks Iger should have bailed when he had the chance.

You know what's funny?
Sure, Disney could end up on the wrong side of this, and they could pay a price....but in no way will I buy into "the sky is falling" routine that some are frequently throwing around. You may want the sky to fall, but that just isn't happening.

IDK if it ever got edited. The main story was UCF has developed a process to combat the "greening" of FL's citrus trees. But Telemundo asked about the H1B issue. My question was for a comment on the 30th Anniversary of the Columbia explosion.

I still have the raw though.

30 years ago tomorrow. The veteran NASA photographers dont like to talk about it.

If big corporations were going to "settle" then this article never would have happened because their legal team would have known they would lose and nipped it in the bud long before anything would have been filed. My guess is Disney knows this will probably get thrown out, like it or not.

Its amazing some people actually think these huge companies dont cross their T's or dot their I's.

Jimmy Thick- Well...Maybe not...

This is spoken like somebody who has absolutely no idea what he or she is talking about.

I'm sure they don't, considering it was the Challenger that was lost....
