Then one would have to wonder how come everyone got their moral knickers in a knot about how China does business? Seems pretty hypocritical to me.

Because I think a lot of business and political figures should be wearing orange jumpsuits for the rest of their life in the supermax at Marion for the crimes they have committed against the citizens of the US. Yes it's how business is done it's still bloody wrong, Look at the S&L crisis under Bush the First hundreds of bank executives and pol's went to jail which is as it should be. Forward to 2008 because of campaingn contributions to the Pols NO ONE WAS EVEN INDICTED for nearly taking down the global financial system.

I'm still disappointed that Disney did this to their workers. With me being an annual passholder and a DVC member I still ask myself why don't we sell? The prices they charge to stay in the rooms at the Deluxe hotels aren't worth it my book and that's why we got DVC but now I don't know if I want to continue supporting this company. There is just so much they've done that make me question things now.

Well I don't think Deluxe Resorts are worth the rack rate room, but the huge cash outlay and long term commitment to the DVC seemed like an even worse deal to us. We decided years ago that we didn't like some of the directions in which the parts and resorts were going in terms of quality and price.

We started voting with our wallets and instead of 10-14 days a years, we're down to 4-5 days every other year and only when the Deluxe Resorts are discounted 25%-30%. Add the way they've treated these workers and what we felt was a major fail in guest relations on our last visit we may be cutting back even further.

Best of luck in your decision to show your disappointment by selling your DVC.

Not that this has anything to do with this story but it's good for mentioning:

Walt Disney World is the largest single-site employer in the United States yet the unemployment rate in Orlando is extremely high (7% last I remembered). They proven themselves to rely on hiring people from different countries (or even poverty stricken countries) to get that government tax break.

Food for thought.
7% isn't bad

If you want to support other Central Florida attractions you can use your DVC as a base to explore them. By law your maintenance fees are supposed to only cover the expense of the room and it's percentage expense of the shared common areas (or something like that) - your annual fees as a result contribute no profit for the Mouse.

What they are supposed to cover and what they actually cover is an interesting subject, MF's at BLT are climbing by double digit amounts every year and the 'Mousekeeping' line item is huge. It's actually about 3X the cost for housekeeping in a mid town Manhattan timeshare with a similar number of declared timeshare units.

Given that Mousekeeping is in a DVC room every 3 days on average, WHY is Mousekeeping so expensive in a low labor cost town like Orlando relative to NYC and it's not the quality of the work. Yes I'm a charter member there and one subject that comes up frequently among BLT owners is 'are we paying for Mousekeeping for the ENTIRE BLT not just the DVC units'

They are actually allowed to make a small profit, but it is not a huge amount by any means. Also the shared areas can be a substantial savings to Disney. The savannah at DAKL enjoyed is a prime example of this.
