Now...I am a little nervous....

So here I am only 6 days away from my arrival in Orlando...and I am getting pretty nervous!

I looked at the Weather Channel's 10 day forecast, and there is a good chance that our trip is going to be a soggy one.

I will be traveling with my DH, DD (19 months), and both of my parents. Does anyone have any tips/advice on fun things to do while it rains? Not that I am afraid of melting, just so that I have options to present to the group.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

I was there December 15-23rd and had a forecast of rain as well. Funny thing it never did rain. HAve faith! I was prepared and very relieved. If you are taking a 19 month old get one of the stroller rain guards..life saver! The resorts have a lot to offer. Not sure if it was just the holidays but the deluxe resorts had a lot of indoor entertainment (in the evening as far as I know.) Epcot is a good choice as well. Innoventions has a lot to do indoors, it is very kid oriented, but aren't we all at WDW? Haver a great time!

10 days out is pretty unreliable, and multiple rainy days are pretty rare this time of year. Just pack some raingear (and an extra poncho to clip over the stroller) and head to the parks. Just be sure to schedule a break to go back to your hotel to dry off/warm up for a couple of hours. And make sure you have more than one pair of walking shoes, so you can let one pair dry overnight. I made the mistake of packing a bit too light one trip, and had to put on soggy shoes the next day. :lookaroun

This is what I was hoping to hear! We have tons of raingear (I am a bit of an over-planner for the worst case scenario) and my stroller has it's own rain cover that snaps on.

Thanks for the advice!!!

Again, don't worry about the rain. A lot to do, even just walking thru the stores on Main Street.

We were there a couple of years ago and saw the Rainy Day (not sure if this is the right termanology) parade a Magic Kingdom. It's different. Was talking to a local while standing and watching it and she said she'd been hundreds of times and this was her first time as well. I was short (about 10 minutes) and had the characters in vehicles and some minor dances but the music as different and kinda cool.

Disney is prepared.

We just back from our 12/26-12/31 trip. The 10-day forecast was showing rain a week or so out, but as we got closer our weather turned into nice 80 degree days until 31st, where we had a light shower for about 30mins. Luckily I check the weather every morning and we packed our portable umbrellas. We were nice and dry in the rain watching the EE coaster at AK while waiting for the Yak & Yeti to open. :)

All of us have our fingers crossed and are doing the no-rain dance :ROFLOL:!

Weather is hard to predict, so I am just going to be prepared and I could think of worse places I could be...even in the rain!

Thanks again!

Hey VT GAL!!

Don't let it slow you down... Grab a poncho, get your flip flops or some nice hiking sandals and go out and enjoy. We spent an entire rainy day in the Magic Kingdom and it was a lot of fun!! We even were the first one on Splash Mountain for the day (Certifiable Magic Moment)!! We rode BTMRR while it Thundered!! IT was a great time, and one of the perks, is that you can almost walk on every ride (depending on the time of year!).

Don't let a little rain dampen your Disney fun... afterall: "It can't rain all the time!"!! Have a great trip..

Don't worry...there always seems to be a chance of rain in Orlando any time of the year.
It it does rain, just make sure you have plenty of ponchos -- they work great.
There are some attractions that will close during a storm, but there are many indoor attractions as well:
MK - Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Space Mt., Stitch's Great Escape, The Mad Tea Party, Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Mickey's Philharmagic, It's A Small World, The Haunted Mansion, Hall of Presidents, Country Bear Jamboree, Pirates of The Caribbean, Enchanted Tiki Room
Epcot - Spaceship Earth, Innoventions, Nemo & Friends, Turtle Talk w/ Crush, exhibits in The Living Seas, Living w/ the Land, Soarin', Circle of Life, Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, Journey Into Imagination w/ Figment, Mission: Space, Test Trace, Universe of Energy, films & shops in the World Showcase
Studios - The Little Mermaid, Playhouse Disney Live, Magic of Animation, One Man's Dream, Great Movie Ride, Toy Story Mania, Indiana Jones Stunt Show (will shut down if lightning), Star Tours, Muppet Vision 3D, Sounds Dangerous
AK - Dinosaur, It's Tough To Be A Bug -- a lot of attractions are outdoors

I may have missed some.

If it rains, I am starting to look forward to showing my DD the pure joy that is puddle jumping (in as safe as a way as possible) ! I know that Mom will protest about going out in the rain, and has already voiced her concerns. But I told her that she could go shopping, and to pick me up something nice :animwink:! She laughed, and told me the only person she was shopping for was her littlest princess.

All of these responses are making me feel tons better!!!!!

This is a great list!!!!

I wish the Playhouse Disney show would be up, because my DD is quite the dancer :).

I think I am moving too fast to keep my thoughts straight, because I definitely didn't think of a lot of those!!!

DS12 and I have given up on worrying about it. If it rains, we get wet.

We've found it rare that rain lasts any length of time and in Florida it doesn't take long to dry off once it stops. We got caught once in DAK in a torrential downpour and just took a break in a store until it was a drizzle, then carried on. We've never been uncomfortable being wet, so it's no biggie if it rains on us.

In addition to extra shoes...

Pack foot powder, like gold bond or something. My 05 trip was SOGGY and I got atheletes foot from all the wet/dry back and forth junk. I'd never had it before or since... I've been using the powder in my shoes ever since.. and I've had no problems. I swear by it. Use it GENEROUSLY every morning, and switch your shoes up daily.. even if it doesn't rain. I've taken a field-soldiers way of looking at things... take care of your feet! You'll be glad you did.

As mentioned there are just so many things to do that are indoors and aren't affected by rain, that rain isn't really worth worrying about. Walking around might be uncomfortable, but at least you won't miss many attractions. Disney isn't like a typical amusement park, such as Six Flags New England up here near Boston where everything but one or two things are outside and if the weather is bad, you might as well go home because Superman will probably be closed. You can still have a great time.

On a side note, I was at Busch Gardens Virginia in October and it downpoured all day long. It was horrible. A lot of rides were shut down and the park closed early. While I was able to do all the big rides, it was still a miserable day because I was so wet from being on the roller coasters. Rain hitting you in the face at 70 mph is very painful. All I kept thinking about while walking around, completely soaked, was that this would never happen in Disney. (Although I will give them credit, because they did give us a one-day ticket for free to go back another time. Although I'll probably never be back in Virginia, so...)

We are going to be there the same time you are...we are 6 days out as of today. After our last few trips in January, I stopped looking at the 10 day forcast as it could change any second and is of little value. It is showing some rain, but rain in January is not ususally a whole day event, nor do you see it several days in a row.

The most fun we ever had was during a half day drizzle at AK in January. I mean there was nobdy around...we walked onto everything. We even got poncho'd up (is that even a word) and did Kali a few times. it was great.
